Tyre Management

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Managed to do a couple of quick races yesterday one at 25% and the other at 50% race distance.

The one thing I am really struggling with is the tyre degradation, I'm finding my tyres are dropping off 4 laps before my scheduled stop which is impacting on my race strategy.

I am using a pad to play so I don't know if this has a detrimental effect rather than a wheel, it would be great if anyone could share any tips with me,

Are there any car settings I can change i.e the brakes, front wing?

I have found the tyre wear alright, I am not usually easy on tyres but mine are lasting fine, go to career and do the tyre test in practice, it helps a lot as you can see the effect your driving is having on tyres and how to preserve them.

Have a go in the practice sessions in quick race and use the tyre management program (I think it is in the game), that'll show you how you are eating into the tyres and where.  Some things you could be doing is spinning the rear wheels too much when finding traction (assuming no TC), locking wheels under braking (without ABS) and accelerating under full lock all have detrimental effects on tyre wear...

The more downforce the car has the more the tyres will wear out so maybe try using less front wing also when driving try to make the corner as straight as possible to avoid scrubbing any speed off which also effects wear on the tyres. Plus when using the thumb stick to control the car try using the very top of it to move the car more smoothly rather than moving the thumb stick further doing which makes the car twitchy and wears the tyres a lot more

I did try a couple of tyre tests in practice, however I find myself in the red and have an invalid lap, but then if I manage my tyres and stay in the green I cant post a fast enough lap. Just struggling to find that balance at the moment.

I was just wondering if I could fiddle with the car setup which may put less strain on my tyres.

Hi @MatthewR44 give the Career a try and do the Tyre Management practice programme. That will show you your tyre wear including when you're wearing them more than expected in a particular part of the track. You can use that information to adjust your driving or just add a extra pit stop to your strategy.

yeah I am not a fan of the tyre management test, 10 laps is too long when you want to go race! I did not tweak my set up I chose a default one and just broke a bit earlier and eased on the accelerator out of the corner and the little bar went to purple, took few laps of practice but it got there, maybe different constructors have worse rate of wear, I am driving a mclaren

Thanks for the advice, hopefully using the above can stop my tyres dropping off a few laps earlier.

Cant wait to get back on it :

Try adjusting your camber and toe angles in the car setup (assuming it isn't a default setup). This has a profound effect of increasing tyre wear, even though you go faster. For qualifiying you can adjust the angles, but then set it back to default for the race. Also try decreasing your spring stiffness, unless you get lot's of understeer and start to lose overall pace.

It appeared from previous games that pad users are at a disadvantage when it comes to tyre wear than wheel users. When I used my 360 pad I lost a lap or two compared to when I used my G27.

Just plan for extra stops, it's the way the game is built I think. Pad users won't be equal when it comes to tyre wear.

Can you do the tyre management in championship mode??

I thought as much,

I think I'm going to have to go aggressive and maybe 3 stop rather than 2 stop.

Thanks for the help :)

Change the tyre pressures to as low as possible. This will cause you to be slightly slower but last much longer than with the default tyre pressures.

Personally tyre wear is not as bad for me this year, in F1 2015 I had to make an extra stop every single race but so far this year I've only had to once out of five 50% races.

The tyre management test isn't worth doing imo, 7 laps and I'm almost constantly in the red even though when I'm in the race itself I seem to be making the tyres last.

Are you using the Pad or a Wheel?

Pad for now, hoping to invest in a wheel
Same here, I'm looking at Thrustmaster TMX Force Feedback Racing Wheel but I cant see it in Codies compatible list under Xbox one.

I think that wheel users can be smoother and save tire wear in f1 2015 however are you using traction control and are you locking up your tires under braking?  Try to lower the tires pressure and reduce camber like the other guys have said above.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that if you use TC it may count the tire wear like as your wheels were spinning with too much throttle... but i am not completely sure about that one.

It's under there. I just cheked. You might have gotten it confused since there are a lot of "TX" to camouflage it.
