Real Life Onboards Version 1

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell at what point we lose the realistic track experience while driving? Do we just leave the onboards on default? Or can we adjust them to a certain point? I remember when I first played the game there was a warning saying something like if you change these settings it can have effects on gameplay.

in every game I have ever played there is a tipping point when the turns become sharper than they really are and when they become straighter than they really are. That's said play the game how you enjoy playing. Wether the fov is correct or not. What we were talking about is extremely off the scale fov numbers such as all the way down and all they way up making corners sharper and straighter. Such as players trying to mimick the wideangle camera lens they see on tv onboards which require a super high fov.

KevinKirk you're drunk mate....
The reason you dont need to move your sticks as much to go through various turns with a high FOV is because you are probably going slower through the turns, but your brain has been tricked into thinking your speed is faster because of the stretched "effect" of the high FOV,

As a basic rule,

Low FOV = Speed feels slow even when you're moving fast.

High FOV = Speed feels fast even when you're moving slow.

I've tried it and it seems Kevin is right.  If you bump up the fov in cockpit view, to the point where you no longer see the side mirrors, it becomes much easier to take the corners.  Maybe in tcam view this effect is not as pronounced but cockpit view and you definitely see and feel the difference.   The track essentially feels like it's much more wider than it should be.  I don't think this is a bug because if you do the same thing in Pcars it produces the same effect as f1 2016.

just forget it, I have tried every way possible to explain that EXTREME FOV settings, high or low, effects the track.

Incorrect,
Extreme FOV affects your PERCEPTION of the track.

Thank you. The perception of the track is different but the track hasn't changed. It APPEARS to have changed but it hasn't. It's all a trick on your mind.

OK, It only changes the track to the point they drive different in cockpit view, not in the replay cams. FOV doesnt effect the replay cams as much as cockpit view. My apologies for assuming tcam camera changes as much as the driving view by the FOV numbers without checking it before I opened my mouth. Not saying anything is wrong with FOV in the game or anything, I just assumed the FOV effected all the cameras the same. Feel free to drive in cockpit view with extremely high and low number to see were I was coming from.
