Traction control tips

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

So I'm playing on PS4 with traction control on medium with a controller.

I'm at a loss as to how anyone can drive on a controller on medium TC. Am I missing something? I just dont see how anyone can do it. Spinning around everywhere and this is in dry conditions! Drove on medium TC on 2015 and had the hang of it. This seems a little overkill on 2016.

Does differential throttle adjustment on the car setup help with this? If so where should I place it?

I'm driving without TC with controller on XBOX and found my first race extremely difficult, it was like driving on a ice skating ring. After Melbourne I added more down force in the R@D and now driving much better and feels way bether now than 2015, best F1 game to date great work Codemasters

PS I'm driving the maclaren

The thing I've noticed with this new game is. When your car is in the middle of turning and you try to put your throttle down the car spins, unless you are gentle with the throttle this will happen. You have to wait til you straighten your car up before powering through. I drive with no assists.

I usually see people spinning out in the exits of the turns. Be gentle with the throttle, but don't floor it right away. Go with a "smooth" line with the throttle ex. 20% -> 40% -> 60% -> 80% -> 100%. You also can't go flat out in every high speed corners.

Not sure how it can be that difficult with medium TC. I struggled with it off but finding it pretty good on medium. Maybe it's because I've been playing Project Cars and Dirt Rally for a while and throttle control is important on both, so it's become second nature.

I also turned FFB off, because it doesn't help with controlling the throttle imo

Tip: Don't full throttle until 4th gear... It all needs practice. Once you feel like: ahh medium tc is so easy... Switch to no tc and practice. I don't know.. do a quick race... time trial... lol I used this trick in f1 2015 and that was my first f1 game. It all depends on practice practice practice...

For me when you learn not to continue pushing the throttle in once it starts accelerating you can drive fine on a pad with no assists.

Say you're in 2nd gear accelerating out a long corner, press the throttle extremely gently so that you hear the engine accelerating up and then leave your finger there as you take it up through 3rd and 4th. If you can do that and not do the natural thing of "now I'm into 3rd I'll press a little harder" and the same thing for 4th you should find you can steer the car perfectly as long as you're gentle with it (if you're accelerating in the above way and you get a vibration when you're steering it then you're pushing too far to the left or right and need to ease off on the steering a little).

If you get that then you'll find you learn without realising it under what circumstances you can push the throttle the tiniest bit more. It's all about NOT pushing to try and be quick, not trying to nail every entrance under braking and every exit at maximum speed. It's more about doing as little as possible. Never pushing your steering much past halfway, never approaching a corner coming down from 6th to 2nd with the brake mashed in full, never trying to get the throttle mashed in as quickly as you can. I've begun to doubt whether the last third or quarter of the PS4 pad R2 button even has an effect, I think on the long straights I push it in full as much to let my finger rest.

One useful exercise might be just going around a few corners a gear below what you should be in with your finger sitting on the throttle so you're neither losing speed or gaining speed to give you a feel of where the "zone" is, since right above there is that area you need the throttle to sit in for the low gear accelerating. Just be gentle, turn everything off, and take it slow. As the bishop said to the actress...

First you need to set your steering lineraty to what suits you for easy counter steering without throwing you off the track. At the moment I landed on 70,any thing after that starts to delay imputs. No matter what your going to have wheelspin. That's not the problem. The problem is when the cars rear end gets thrown to the side when that wheel spin happins. To calm that down to were the car doesn't jump to the side when the wheel spin is to SET YOUR REAR TOE TO .50  The on throttle rear diff doesn't exactly effect to car like it should in this game. That's said SET THE ON THROTTLE DIFF TO 50% ( UNLOCKED) to help calm down the car rear end being thrown to the side under wheelspin.......trying not to ramble on I will explain why the diff setting isn't behaving correctly in this game.  Unlocked allow the inside tire to grip because its turn at a different speed than the outside wheel and SHOULD make the car jump to the side because of the grippy inside wheel. Locked makes both wheels turn at the same speed, that should make the inside wheel lose traction and spin up but not throw the rear end to the side. For some reason it is backwards in this game.
