Problems when defining a custom 'control scheme'

Recommended Posts

This is my first post here, so the first thing is to say hi to everybody. The second thing is to congratulate Codemasters: this seems to be the best F1 game ever. There is obviously room for improvement, but the ga looks superb.

I have a big problem when trying to create a custom control scheme that suits my personal combination of control devices (G27 wheel, Fanatec USB pedals and Leo Bodnar's SLI-Pro controller running EKSimracing software). I play in a PC under Windows 10. The first time I opened the game, I almost immediately got a message saying that my SLI-Pro was not recognized. However, I was able to enter GAME OPTIONS (F2) - Settings - Customize controls - Control Schemes - Create Custom (F1) with no problem and defined my personalized setup using the buttons of the SLI-Pro. So OK up to this point: I could play the game using the buttons of my SLI-Pro controller. The problem is that when I later accessed Game options again to change some button assignments in the control scheme, it did not recognize SLI-Pros buttons any more. Anytime I try to define an action using on of the SLI-Pro buttons does not work: it says "Unassigned", or "Error", or simply does not change the default key. Whn this happened for the first time, I got stuck there and lost my configuration.

After multiple tries (including a complete reinstall), I ended up magically at the starting point (message saying "SLI-Pro not recognized, please define a control scheme", etc) and could define my profile again with zero problems like the first time. However, although I can now play using the SLI-Pro buttons, the problem is still there because, again, I cannot change it anymore (again, trying to create a new custom scheme with the F1 key fails because the SLI-Pro buttons are no longer recognized). When I reach this point, the workaround is to terminate the game with Ctrl-Alt-Del, but I get stuck in the present profile and cannot change it.

Does somebody have this problem with the Bodnar's SLI-Pro or with any buttonbox or similar? Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I hope I explained myself (excuse my english). Thanks!

I have the exact same Problem.
I'm using a Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP which is not officially supported.
I think it has something to do with not officially supported Controllers.
The weird thing is, that the Controller works fine, even when it displays the "Error" in configuration.
A workaround is to start the game with the controller connected. Once on the main menu of the game, unplug the controller from your computer, dismiss the Error message of the game.
Then plug the controller back in and the game magically recognizes the controller with all mappings without the error message and you can once again remap you're buttons.
The downside is, that you have to do this procedure everytime you start the game.

Let's hope that there will be a patch for this very soon.

Thanks a bunch, CaotKirk! Your workaround worked perfectly! As you say, let's hope that a patch is released soon that fixes this. Cheers.

Same issue for me.
I have a Saitek R440 (old as hell, I know ;) ) Works fine in the game with the settings I made on the initial start of the game, but now I can't change them anymore. All I see is "ERROR" or "Unassigned Button." Really would like to see a patch here, because I accidentilly put the DRS on the wrong button. It's playable, but feels a little awkward still.

CrimsonTide, I had a very similar problem to yours (wanted to change a button assignmenet) and I could finally do it following CaotKirk's workaround (find it a couple of comments above). Until we have a patch for this, I am afraid we will have to do this :-(. At least it works! :-)

Ok, a new Patch arrived and the Custom Control Scheme bug for not officially supported Controllers still isn't fixed. :(
Please Codies. I don't want to unplug the controller and plug it back in again every time i start the game.

Ok, this is getting annoying. Another week, another patch and nothing changed.  :(
It would be good, when someone from Codemasters would respond if they are even aware of this problem.
