[F1 2016 PC] Sudden stuttering/framerate drop

Recommended Posts

Just want to say mine is the same , this has to be an issue with the game as I have other race games on my PC and none of them do it only 2016. Has any one tried the sergestion of ensiferrum.ahd if so did it work?

Good Morning  @Lozzy@Britpoint@Hoo, and last, but not least, @jennyannem
Same Porblem for me.  :s

Problem «only» with F1 2016...
After the last patch i have same Micro-Stuttering or Micro-Freezes or Mirco-Lags (many names for same Problem).
In the last days my Computer runs with Windows 10.1 Pro (with all Updates) on a new PC for many many €uros.
Yesterday i make a downgrade (completly fresh Installation) back to Windows 8.1 Pro, result is a "little" bit bether.
The Micro-Freezes issue is just terrible and makes the game unplayable, so i very frustated at the moment for this Bug.

I've tried the following things...
• Disabled DVR
• Uninstalled Nvidia HD audio
• Delete and reinstall the Nvidia drivers
• Vsync on/off/fast/adaptive settings (Nvidia control panel)
• Particles on/off ingame
• DSR factores off (Nvidia control panel)
• Energymode optimal power/optimal performance/adaptive (Nvidia control panel)
• Deactivated → Superfetch & Windows Search & Windows Image Accisition (WIA)  & Windows Biometric Service
• Deactivated Steam Overlay
• Deactivated Nvidia ShadowPlay (Share)
• Deactivated Microsoft Defender
• Deactivated Realtek Audio process
• Deactivated all other running processes
• I dont have USB-Hub installed
• and many more, buth all ideas or solutions dont help me to solve the micro-stutterings-problems

Sorry for my bad english, next post in German or French...
;)
PS: My Hardware is in my Signature and here my Infos to provide a Bug.

Best Regards
Dave

Many people have the same problems, me included :/
Apparently if you turn to ultra-low "Texture Streaming", it solved the issue.
It's not really a fix but it's a solution for now :/ Come on codemasters this should not have to be done for some people I have a 1080 and I have to apply this so I can play the game with no shuttering please fix this in next patch.......     NO It doesn't fix it tried and it's a big No.

Still happening for me.

maybe it's the flashback feature.

Anyway, if the flashback can be made longer and with more control then that would at least mean I can rewind to a straight.

half the time I end up mid corner, can't keep it going then when I try again, the flashback starts at a non-recoverable point.

Doubly frustrating.

Hi all -

I've been monitoring this thread since the game release in August as I've had the issue from launch day. Finally I've decided I should post my specs and findings to help CM get to the bottom of this.

Specs:
- Win7 64bit
- Intel 3570k (@4ghz)
- AMD R9 390X 8G
- 32GB ram
- 2 SSD disk drives (no HDD drives)
- G27 Steering wheel with a modified Thrustmaster F1 Addon rim running a SIMR-F1 display, with 3 12-position switches, 5 encoders and 31 buttons (mostly as per this guide except I also have the Logitech G27 quick release by Simulaje:
http://www.isrtv.com/forums/topic/12982-thrustmaster-f1-wheel-mod-with-simr-f1-display-switches-and-encoders/

- SimVibe with a Buttkicker gamer 2 under the seat (running in extensions mode).

I run the game in ultra graphics settings, 144hz 1080p, 16x SMAA. When the stuttering isn't occurring the game is smooth as silk.

First thing to note is I've tried without running SimVibe and with my G27 with the stock rim and I still get the same problem, so I don't think they are related.

Second thing to note is I've run all of the CM F1 games and never had this issue. F1 2015 was fine with the exact same hardware.

Down to the issue - I've noticed that the stuttering tends to start during a race for me, running in career mode with 25% distance. I don't seem to get the issue so much in the practice / qualifying sessions, which I do take part in but don't turn many laps (usually 1 for track acclimatisation, 1 for qualifying sim, 4 for tyre wear test and 1 lap qualifying).

Once the stuttering starts, it persists, even going into next weekend in career mode. The point on the track or number of cars around doesn't seem to have any bearing on the stuttering. Once it's started, it seems to occur regardless of where you are on the track and what's around you.

Interestingly I've noticed that when the stuttering kicks in, if I do a mid-session save, quit out of the game and then relaunch, the stuttering is completely gone. It then kicks in again some time later.

One thing to add is that I've tried this with both my current graphics card (AMD 390x), and my previous card which was a GTX 970, and get the exact same issue with both.

I've also tried this with Windows 10 64 bit which made no difference, if anything it was more prominent.

I really hope this can be fixed, I suspect there are many people out there with the same issue who just haven't reported it.

Anyway hopefully these small pieces of extra information may help.

Cheers,

Mike

Just tried with patch 1.7.0 - no improvements.

I still haven't started my career as I do not want to be playing at 20 fps once I reach Baku, Singapore and the other tracks which have framerate consistency issues.

@Lozzy In case it helps debugging, this is a list of all places where the framerate consistently drops from ~60 to ~20 in my case:
- hairpin section of Montreal
- most of Baku
- most of Singapore
- stadium section of Mexico

Hi guys -

I've now got a fix for this at least on my setup. I saw others mentioning a USB hub as a potential problem. Whilst I don't have a USB hub, I do have a USB card reader on the front of my PC, connected directly to one of the internal motherboard USB connectors.

I thought as a last shot I would try disconnecting it, low and behold this has completely fixed all stuttering for me and the game is smooth as silk. I've done 6 career mode races since and the problem is completely gone.

Clearly this is a workaround to a bug which should still be fixed, but it certainly got rid of the problem for me.

Hope this helps some of you guys, and also CM to resolve the problem.

Cheers,

Mike

Good one Trenamax! Could you check if you can do this on software level in Windows Device Manager?
If you reconnect it, check what device has been added in Device Manager and disable it there.
Would be a help to know to alot of people if we could try that without disconnecting cables in the PC :)

Hi everyone!

Over the weekend I came across a sitution that might help some people out.

I never had a issue with frame-rate or stuttering until today. Framerate drops from over 100fps to low 30s even with when I enabled Vsync it would go from 60fps to 30's and lower. There was some serious performance issue's. I even uninstalled the game from HDD to SSD put no differance.

So what went wrong. I had changed some performance options on my desktop. Now I'm not saying this is a fix but when I reverted back to my orginal settings everything ran as smooth as butter. I had changed three settings so I will go through it with you now so maybe it might help someone its a long shot.

Windows 10:
1.  Click window's icon then click  RUN
     Type: regedit click OK
Click Folder:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER   Click: Control Panel  click: Mouse folder.  In side window you will see MouseHoverTime folder double click to change value to 200 click OK.

2. Above the mouse folder you will see Desktop folder. Click on it. On side window you will see folder MENU SHOW DELAY double click.
Change the value to 200 and click OK. Exit.

3. Power options. Make sure its on Balanced (Recommanded).

4. RESTART.

Those few little tweaks I had made killed the preformance of this game. I just said I would post my experience it might open a door to a proper fix.

I seem to have a similar issue. At first, the framerate is around 50-60 FPS. But then it progressively drops to like 15 FPS. Also my online seems to be quite unstable. Another thing is that when I go back to the main menu, the loading screen freezes for about 10 seconds. I don't know why this happens. I've tried to reduce the graphics and I tried to re-install the game, but nothing has worked so far.

There was some advice to set the Texture Streaming to Ultalow. On my I7 4770 with 24RAM and an 8GB AMD RX480, I ran a 25% race at Azerbaijan, one lap qualifying and tire test and a few more laps in practice without once seeing the stutter/stagger. I would typically see it happen about once every outing and it would last about 2 seconds. As I understand ,Texture Streaming is when the application starts swapping out mipmaps as you get closer to distant objects. I think I read that this happens in video ram. You'd think my 8gb of video ram would be enough (I also had the same stutter on my previous R9380 with 2GB). I don't have enough outings to report on, but just having one session without it was an improvement worth mentioning.

I have been investigating this problem using the Resource Monitor. It definitely occurs (at least on my PC) when a service host process grabs the CPU and disk. There are a number of services using this svchost.exe but it seems fairly certain that the one causing the problem is superfetch (called SysMain?), as reported by others. It may be that this causes a problem on my system because the game is installed on HDD?

NoGlitch.jpg shows what is happening when the game is running normally. F1_2016.exe is the only significant load on the CPU at 57% and the FPS is 169.

InGlitch.jpg is showing the svchost.exe using 20% and CPU is overloaded, FPS has dropped to 46 and the system is hitting the disk hard.

I have not seen a glitch since disabling Superfetch at startup.

I suspect that other processes/services may be causing problems on other peoples PCs because the game requires so much CPU or the bottleneck is disk access. My PC is close to the recommended system

Some other observations

  • Occurs even with graphics set to Very Low.
  • Occurs with network enabled or disabled.
  • Seen it on all tracks tried.
  • Never seen it when running a benchmark
  • Turning off camera shake seems to help general appearance
  • Not seeing this problem with other games including those installed on HDD.

Set Up

  • Windows 10 Home 1607
  • I5-4690K CPU over-clocked to 4.5GHz
  • ASUS H81M-PLUS
  • GTX970 4GB
  • 8GB RAM
  • T300RS Wheel

Doh, just realised I cant post the images but the figures speak for themselves. So the forum is working as well as the software.

I disabled DVR in Windows 10 XBox and Nvidia Share and have not seen any micro stutter since. I won't call it a complete fix because I've only played about 30 minutes since I disabled those options. I'll report back later.

  • 6600K OC to 4.6 GHZ
  • 16 GB Kingston Hyperx Fury 3000 MHZ
  • Z170A MSI SLI Plus
  • MSI GTX 960 Gaming 4 GB
  • Windows 10 Home

I posted a note a bit ago about setting texture streaming to UltraLow upon the recoomendation of someone. I said in that note that I ran probably about 50 laps without seeing a stutter. Well, the stutter returned. So texture streaming wasn't the answer for me.

Have any other people disabled DVR and it has worked. I have stopped all the services to the Xbox app and it still has this issue, if I need to restart the services and then turn off DVR I will but if it's not really a fix then I will not bother .

Just ran a race in Canada. One of the worst microstutter moments, so the Nvidia Share, Win 10 DVR disable is a no go for me as well.
