USB mic not working on PC?

Recommended Posts

I have a Samson gomic USB on my desk but none of the engineer speech stuff works . The mic works as I use it in discord just the other day.

Any ideas?

You are pressing the 'Speak to Engineer' button, right...?

You'd be surprised how many have been shouting at their screens, forgetting you have to press a button first...

Does it (the mic) work in Skype, are you able to make a test call and can you hear your voice played back to you?
I've got all sorts of old USB stuff lying around and I've just tried an old Logitech USB headset from 2004 and that also works fine, as well as a PSEye microphone, a Bluetooth headset, a cheap dynamic mic and a condenser mic through the soundcard...everything works fine.

I will go as far as say that it is very much likely some issue with the setup of your PC or some other issue with the mic. Does Windows recognise the mic, can you do a training session in Windows without issue?

I would try the Skype and Windows tests above first and see if they work.

Yes it works in Skype and i use the mic every day in Discord. It has to be something with how Windows is seeing it though, I will have a play later when im home from work and report back

I've passed this onto our audio coder who's suggested the following:

1)   Check if these programs are installed: “Microsoft Server Speech Platform Runtime” and “Kinect for Windows Speech Recognition Language pack (en-EN)”

2)      Make sure the headset mic is marked as “Default” in the “Recording” section of the Audio device section in the Control Panel

3)      Check the volume level in the properties of the recording device – should be at 100%

4)      Does the microphone symbol in the game UI goes red when you say something (and RE says something like “Please repeat..”) or is it simply no reaction at all?

5)     Make sure no other program is running that uses the microphone input – Teamspeak etc.

Does this resolve the issue?
