Can somebody give me some pointers for creating setups?

Recommended Posts

So at the moment I'm relying on Steam and that dedicated setup website, but the problem I have is that people are either on a different team, using a wheel (I'm using a pad) or not stating which type of controller they're using wheel or pad.

I've decided I want to start making my own setups, but I don't know where to start. Basically I'd like to know what the individual settings add or reduce and the what basic rules I should follow for a setup based on circuit types.

If anybody has any tips I'd be greatful!

I'm using TRL Limitless setups, check him out on Youtube. His setups are working a treat for me in career mode. He also has a tutorial of setups on his channel as well, which is a great place to start if you're wanting to learn how to make your own setups.

Awesome, thank you!

I found this post on the F1Game subreddit to be really useful: https://www.reddit.com/r/F1Game/comments/4zbiq9/always_found_this_guide_useful_for_setups_great/

I suppose you need to know how you want your car. Whether slightly understeery or the nose pointy into the corners.

If you want the achievement of doing it yourself then small adjustments. Change one thing at a time as see how that works. You have three practises (assuming you are doing full race) to perfect a setup and work on it.

Eventually you will get one that works for you.

Start with things like downforce and ride height. Then the suspension softness. Once you get a balance you can change things like toe and camber to refine it.

Want to learn how to setup a car quickly, well some what quickly.  Start a quick race with full 90/90/60 practice session.  Select balanced setup. Drive 10 laps to get a feel for the car and head back to garage.   Next adjust one item to its extremity.  For example, move front and rear camber to max. Remember, do not touch anything else. Now drive out and do another 5-10 laps. You should now feel the effects of camber on the car.  Now back to garage. Move front and rear camber back to default setting. Now try something else like ballast and continue from there.  Everyone has a different feel for a car. Watching or using someone else's setup is a good start but, when you understand how each element impacts the car, you can create a setup taylored for you. This in turn will help you be smoother and you might end up much faster than the "hotlap" video you just watched.

Cheers

With F1 it seems that its more about setting the car up to drive the way you want it to drive not so much as setting the car up with a "fast setup". Just do a race and make mental notes on how you like the car to drive. For example I like the steering imput to understeer into the corner allowing me to move my brake bias to the rear. That allows me to dictate how much oversteer I have into the corner by how hard I hit the brake instead of the steering. Decide how you want it to drive and then set the car up to drive that way..... Note that the car behaves different with full fuel and so on. For myself I get much more out of testing if I test by doing practice races. Start races get a good feel for what the car is doing with a tire run then quit, make setup changes, then start a race and do that over and over. Just for some reason I do better testing setups that way than just doing a practice session and going in and out of the pits.

once you get a setting doing somewhat like you want it save it. Now When ever you make changes trying to fine tune it if you don't like the changes you can just load that setting and not have to manually change everything back. Just saves time
