Does the AI ever lock-up or go wide?

Recommended Posts

I've never seen the AI make a mistake, ive seen them fight for position and crash sure....but when following them into a corner they never lock-up or go too wide.  The difficulty just makes them go faster or slower around the track, but doesnt increase/decrease the mistakes made.

have you ever seen a car crash or end up in a gravel trap that wasnt the result of contact with another car?  I havent.

Few times AI done it against other AI. Multiple times when i hit corner from inside it forces AI either go wide, give up or go lock on and slides to outside of track.

Im looking at you silver arrows. I will do anything to make prouncing horses to win the championship.

See, you forced them into an error.  I'm talking about an AI car a few lengths ahead, or maybe behind you.  ive never seen them make an unforced error and 'over-cook' a turn entry.

I've seen a couple AI lock-up at Australia Turn 9 in the rain.

Here's Perez locking up his front left and completely missing the apex.

And here's Bottas locking up his front right and losing some time off the optimal racing line.

Yeah, this is something I totally hate with the AI. They just don't make any racing mistakes and always stick to the exact same line over and over. We don't see variety of lines, always the same one!

Another thing the AI should do is taking defensive positions when we are overtaking them...

Kimi passed me into turn 1 in japan, but ran wide and had to slow down, allowing me back through, just.

I think that's different and much more common than a normal mistake in this game. In this game, even when completing an overtake very early before the next corner, the AI will often stay on that sub-optimal line and mess up their corner.

There was an F1 game, think it was on N64 but it had all sorts of driver errors.
It was so great coming around a bend and seeing an AI car sputtering off to the side about to retire.

Or to get notified someone had engine trouble ahead, see blue smoke and whizz past.

AI should get it all wrong, not often, but just enough, mistakes happen all the time and I agree the AI race far too clean in F116

Edit. Game was F1 world grand prix

Max V tried to pass me around the outside of turn 4 in Russia he locked up and ran off the track then was overtaken by bottas. I watched again on the replay just to check it.

Yes they do. Kvyat tried to overtake me in Russia at turn 13. He locked up on the inside at the end of the drs zone, and went wide in the corner  was great to see.

I've seen them locking a wheel, but it's quite rare. The AI needs some more randomness for sure, they all take the EXACT same line and drive too close to the car in front, creating a ridiculous looking train

This is definitely something that needs to happen much more. Watching them on=board is the best way to see how robotic they usually are when in clear air. They never look like they're fighting the car or losing grip, too rare to see them lockup or otherwise.

IMo their tyres are much more durable than mine.My laptimes start to get slower after about 3-4 laps in 25% races ,but ai seems to get same lap times as they did before nad will start to catch me pretty fast.

100% personally had cars hit, but also gained time on drivers with them locking up even a distance ahead of me and drivers pulling over retiring.

I do wonder if whether you closely follow/pressure a driver whether the chance of an error by the AI increases?
