In the Audio Volume Levels menu, why can't I lower some categories below 5?

Recommended Posts

My headset is terrible and so I need to lower the volume of all my games so I can hear party chat over the top. For some reason, I cannot lower the volume of collisions, effects or any vehicles lower than point 5 which means I cannot hear other people in party chat. Is it like this for a reason? Can this be fixed?

That's a deliberate decision taken by our audio department and won't be changing.

I don't know the reason, but that's too bad IMHO.
Also, a master volume button would be welcome.
@bowfar :I have the same issue, what I have done is lowering F1 2016 volume in windows volume mixer (click on the volume icon in the taskbar)
Edit: Sorry I misread your issue, I was thinking of talking to people via another program like teamspeak

For me (as a UX designer by trade :) ) it's not so much the levels they've decided on that's the problem, as the UI. Given that the numbers on screen are fairly arbitrary (as opposed to representing decibels or some other absolute value), it's just a bit weird to only make values 5-10 selectable, as that will always just look like a bug to a lot of folk. And then they waste their time reporting it, and you waste your time coming on here explaining that it's working as designed ;)

Why not still present a fully-selectable 1-10 scale, but just map it onto the audio range you actually want people to use?

scottishwildcat  but if you set two things to the lowest setting and one is muted and the other isn't that's more confusing is it not?

@Nagrom I'll put on a suggestion about adding a master volume slider.

@Lozzy Thanks for your reply, a master volume slide would enable me to get the sound to work with my headset very easily and is a good function to have in a game anyway  :)

Kindly inform your audio department that their decision has just created a Steam refund.

It's very unfortunate that what otherwise appears to be a brilliant game, has to be lessened so unnecessarily by someone's asinine decision.

Have a nice day.
