Baku - my new favourite track! Whats yours?

Recommended Posts

I've just done practice and qualifying at Baku for the first time in my Haas. Qualified 11th which was 0.1 behind my teammate.

Anyway, what a track! Sector 3 with those flat out winding sections was amazing. I think this might well be my new favourite track! I'm definitely losing a bit of time through the really narrow section though.

Anyone else loving this track? If not, what's everyone one elses favourite tracks and why?

Loving the game after years of being underwhelmed. Great job CM!

I totally agree with you on that sentiment.  While my favorite circuit is Baku followed by Monaco, this game from a handling perspective, is so much better than the last one. For sure, Codemasters did a great job with this version. I do see room for continuous refinement of the handling physics until it can surpass Forza 6 in some odd but surprising way.

I love Singapore....well I would, having been born there.

I do like Baku, but found it tricky having been presented with a wet race throughout during my first visit in career mode. It was dry during practice and qualifying sessions, but it's not the same as in a full race in the dry.

Monza, love it, especially that first chicane where you need to tread carefully or you will get a proper bucking bronco under you. Maybe ideal for the prancing horse Ferraris.  :p

When i watched the race on tv in Baku, i thought that this is a boring track. But when i was driving it miself in career, it was love from the very first lap
I just love sectors 2 and especialy sector 3 with it's full throttle corners where one one mistake can cost you a suspension damage. It's by far more challenging then monaco and singapore all together. Very cool track. My new favorite track for sure!

mine are the same as before really Canada Abu Dhabi and Bahrain being my faves to drive on the game. I like Baklu as it is an interesting track but I wouldn't classify it as a favourite. I would say it's probably somewhere in the middle for me. I like it more than Monaco that's for sure though.

I think for the joy of driving and getting out all of the car the best tracks are no doubt Spa and Suzuka because on those tracks you feels all the power and the downforce of the current F1 cars.

My favorite track of all time will be Spa. Baku is awesome too but for me Spa is better. I love Eau rouge and the final straight before the bus stop chicane. Those are my favorite parts and circuit.
Btw I love your taste for tracks :D

That final left right in Baku before the main straight is brilliant. And you can see how easy it was for ricciado and sainz to hit that barrier, that's one tough corner.

At first I hated Baku, but once I learnt it properly I really enjoyed it, sectors 2 and 3 are awesome. The first sector isn't great though, just 90 degree turn after 90 degree turn. Although I think Singapore is still my favourite to drive on any F1 game.

Interesting that no ones said Silverstone yet, particularly with maggots and becketts being so popular with F1 drivers in real life

Suzuka, Spa, Mexico, Spain are my favs.
Baku I hated until I got to know it and yeah, very fun to drive. Hated Singapore and Monaco too before I did 100's of laps now I love em.

I'd put Silverstone as my second favourite, it would be my number one if it was the old layout, bridge corner was imense, the new first sector is pretty crap.

I just finished a 100% race on Baku with Mclaren. Was excellent, felt that the track flows nicely and the section around the castle is so fun to drive. One issue I saw was that the AI couldn't overtake with DRS down the straight as I think they were hitting the rev limiter like I was about halfway down it.

Silverstone is my fave! Maggots and Becketts - in fact, the entire second sector - feels incredible each lap. Closely followed by Montreal which is a track I've been good at in every F1 game.

But I did instantly like Baku, and the last sector is a lot more terrifying than it looked in the race this year.

Only track I dislike is Abu Dhabi.

China.

I've always gone well there for some reason, and I like the flow of the track, especially T1-2-3.

Just did Baku on my career last night (Hard, McLaren). Qualified on pole and finished 2nd.  My pole time was low 1:46 or 1:47 and didn't think I could get much more time out of the car!  I'm 6 or 7 seconds off the global leaderboard best!  I did just stick with the balanced set-up though.  What's the set-up for getting those low 1:40 times?

Definitely low drag and high BHP. In my career race at Baku I was maxing out at 351kph at the end of the straight, shame we can't adjust gear ratios as I was on the rev limiter most of the straight. On the other hand the castle section and the 90degree turns do require good traction out of the corners. My best times were high 1.44s using only traction control on medium as an assist.

I tried the second low downforce set-up (second from the right on the pre-sets) for a few laps and found the twisty sections of the circuit a little too on the edge.  Lost a wheel in fact on the downhill corner shortly after the castle! Was fun getting used to driving sector 3 flat out.  Was losing so much time to the AI when i was lifting a little, but even when I was going flat out with balanced set-up, i was about 7 tenths down on the better cars in sector 3.  Sector 1 I was a few tenths faster and sector  2 about a second faster than the next best.

Did about 20 practice laps around Austria last night and thought i'd be decent round that as I've driven it in other racing games (not F1).  I was so slow in sector 3 though.  Just can't get to grips with that long left-hander section.  What's the ideal set-up for that track?  My times on balanced and +1 lower downforce were pretty much identical.
