What team did people choose for career mode + how is it going?

Recommended Posts

I chose McLaren and I must say I am enjoying the car but am finding the march up the constructors order a little fast. Just finished Austria and McLaren are in 4th place just ahead of Red Bull who have not updated their car much and just behind Williams who have. Ferrari and Mercedes are out in front together. So far I have a few podiums and a pole and its fun. I am thinking that I need to bump up my skill to Legend as its a bit easy but I lack consistency during the race so I think I might struggle too much. Going into Britain, Lewis Hamilton leads the WDC by under 10 points from Rosberg but Ferrari are starting to catch up and have won the last two races.

Also a little reluctant to start a new career until I hear back from @jennyannem about female avatars in future patches.

Chose Mclaren and did 25% Medium for the first two seasons, Won the championship in the second season so I up to hard for the third season and went to 50%. Stuck with hard but went down to 25% about quarter away through the third season. Then I did 5 laps for the last few races to finish the season quickly while I finish R&D with McLaren then I finally I get and offer from other teams and went to Ferrari. back to 50% for the fourth season.

I went with renault and 100% distance on medium. In first season and just doing catalunya. Had one engine upgrade and although im not quick enough to win races i've had 7th in china. Also qualified 2nd in russia and was on for 5th but got a puncture 4 laps from the end so had to pit and finished 9th. Loving this game so far. Before i got it i was worried that it could be one of them games where i would run away with championship but that doesn't seem to be the case. No doubt there will others out there who will find it easy even on ultimate but im not certainly not one of them.

I've chose Williams won the championship in my first season and finished second in the constructors behind Mercedes about 100 points clear of Ferrari in 3rd.  A lot of results came out pretty samey me winning the 2 Mercs 2nd and 3rd with Ferrari fighting for the occasional podium if the Mercs had a problem so I'm thinking I might mix things up a little bit for my 2nd season by throwing a few wild cards into the mix  maybe take the AI upto medium possibly turn damage on that sort of thing even if I can get a safety car or 2 to liven it up and bunch the field together would be good I think so I have to fight the AI more because in a lot of my season I did run off into the distance nevre to be seen  again a lot of the time. I don't want to raise the difficulty too much as I still find the practice programs rather challenging so don't want to take those any higher tbh I just really need the pace between me and the AI to change a little which is why I was thinking either turning damage on or raising the AI pace a level. I'll find a setting that's comfortable for me anyway that allows me hopefully a few more fights for next season it's just a case of tweaking it.

Haas.

I'ts been an up and down year so far, just getting to Monaco, have 1 win which I won mostly on strategy, my worst finish so far was the last race at spain, because the track had drastically less grip than I expected, struggled bad there ended up 10th after nearly crashing with an AI who spun in front of me.

So far - Aus-  Q-P13 F-P7 -Bahrain Q- P1- F-P3, Shanghai - Q-P6, F-P1, Sochi- Q-P2 - F- P4, and Spain - Q-P17, F-P10

@DarkRedslayer Sounds like a nice career mode there. Can I ask what assists, AI level you run and also pad or wheel? I'm finding it hard getting a passed Australia because I can't find a balance... I'm currently trying to do Manor, no assists, Legend AI. Practice, Q and race I'm around a second off the pace of my team mate.. I've tried expert but that doesn't work as I'm too fast.

I am done with season 1 with renault on legend AI and 50% races/full qualifying. I decided to go with McLaren because of the awesome burp sound in the corners. I also decided that for season 2 onwards I'll do 25% races and one-shotqualy. Just did australia and got 12th place. Hoping for Red Bull Racing to offer me a contract at the end of the year!

yeah I've only done season taking a little breathre before I go back in for Season 2 but I'm enjoying it but I'll do some practice races to investigate upping the difficulty before doing it but I'm looking forward to seeing if I can make the next step up.

Manor driver as teammate of Wehrlein. AI legend. full quali, 50% race. Season 1 and just finished Russia. So just started in career mode. Really enjoying it. Sometimes very frustrating " difficult" with the rain and the real time strategy changes. I have to both think and race at the same time ;) focus!!
And today after the 'real live'  qualification @Monza I also tried to set the same time as HAM....not even close. In time trial just a 1:23:454....amateur

Started my career with Renault on expert with no driving aids on. Upgraded the car to the 3rd rank on upgrades list (2nd Mercedes, 1st Red Bull). I am about to finish my first season, 2 races to go and only 3 points behind championship leader (HAM).

Expert with medium TCS only 50% race length. I don't have the time to spend practicing to get consistent with no TCS (hence why I only just got done with Monaco just a bit ago and I've had the game since the day before release lol)

I feel like if I had enough time, Legend would probably be what I played on, because typically I'll do the practices and qually over the course of the week and then run the race. sometimes I try to do qually and race on the same day so I can be "warmed up" at race start. Typically by the end I'm much faster than where I started. For example the race I won, I actually passed Lewis Hamilton on track lol.

Right now though, I don't have the time or patience to put in the time to run legend. Medium TCS simply makes the game much more enjoyable for me.

As for Monaco, I started 7th and after a safety car and several cars retiring, along with passing Kimi after chasing him for about 20 laps, I wound up 3rd. Without the retirements I would have been 5th or 6th at the end.

I feel like legend would be a better fit for me if I had more time. But oh well, maybe next season will be during winter when I should have a bit more time to spend practicing.

Manor (teammate is Wehrlein).

Just done Canadian GP in first season, where I came 6th. I've been very inconsistent but had two points finishes.

So far my results have been as follows:

Aus - 22
Bah - 14
Chi - 21
Rus - 8
Spa - 21
Mon - 14
Can - 6

Manor, ultimate AI, no assists, 50% races.
Been going pretty well so far, currently in 7th in the championship after Germany. Our car was solidly improving until Force India and Haas decided to jump us in one race! Our car is now 3rd worse I think.
Results (from memory):
Aus - P18
Bah - P15
Chi - P5
Rus - P14
Esp - P20 (completely mucked up strategy, was fighting for points, but got to Q3)
Mon - P7
Can - P4
Aze - P17
Aut - P6, Q3 again
Bri - P4
Hun - P11
Ger - P6, first genuine Q3 in the dry
Manor are 5th in the constructors, with Wehrlein scoring 2 points.
Practice at Spa going well, got purple on all tests in practice 1

How hard are the programmes in ultimate? Im playing on medium. Definitely finding it tough on monaco which isn't one of my favourite tracks.

AI: Legend
Braking assist: OFF
Anti-lock brakes: ON
Traction control: ON
Gears: Auto

Full qualifying / 50% distance race

Team: Manor
Teammate: Pascal Wehrlein

Australia: P19
Bahrain: P9
China: P11
Spain: P21
Monaco: DNF

I controversially drew my first rivalry and, thanks to poor results in Spain and Monaco, am losing my second with Wehrlein. I outperformed him in the first three races but I struggle in practice (unless it's raining) and qualifying - though I'm more confident around Canada, which is up next.

Enjoying it so far!

I'm having no problems with the tyre tests, although it was only recently that I found out that running the hardest compound is the easiest to pass. Although being on a wheel it is much easier to be smoother and reduce wear. I'd say the quali test is a bit harder, I only usually only get green but my advice would be to see if there is an intermediate tyre session then do the quali sim then because as we all know, the AI is far too slow in intermediate conditions. :)

I chose Renault and finished 3rd in the first season with 5 wins, need to think about changing the difficulty or something because in season 2 I'm at Silverstone with 7 wins so far in the season. The car is at the top of the performance standings.

My first win was quite awesome in season 1 though. It was Hockenheim and I started 12th. On the first laps I made some moves and was in 5th. I started the race on the harder compound so my stop was around lap 12. Then it started to rain at around lap 10 but it was OK on the dry tyres. I decided I want to switch to inters on my stop and the team kept telling me to come in earlier (lap 10). I kept going on the worn tyres and lost time and finally on lap 12 I pitted for inters and for 2 laps I struggled so much and dropped down to 14th because the track wasn't ready for inters. Then in lap 14 the safety car came out and no one pitted, that helped me to reach the group and then the SC came in at the end of lap 15 so it was 2 laps of racing to the end with light rain conditions. All the AI cars were on slicks and struggling big time whilst my inters were finally working. On the first of the last 2 laps I moved into 3rd and on the last lap I overtake Ricciardo for 2nd and in the middle sector I ruined Rosbergs big day in front of his home audience and overtook him for the win.

Those laps might be incorrect because it was a while back. 25% race too of course

Trouble is hard tyres are only available on certain tracks Same with Ultras. Im using pad. One day im gonna get full rig with racing seat. Bit expensive at the moment though.

Build your own set up. I built mine and it only cost around 150 for the wood, and it's far more solid than anything you'd buy.

I started a career with Manor, but after the first few races I noticed that the AI in the race and in the wet are not as strong as the AI in qualifying. I started on legend AI, but after a 6th and a 3rd at Monaco I've decide to start my career again as it was to I easy. This time though I've went for the McLaren and wacked it on ultimate, and also decide to wait till the update comes out for ps4 and start my journey again.

I also made my own rig out of wood and a car seat, it's great.

Do you always manage to get purple on the tyre management?
What do you get with softer compounds?
