Control pads

Recommended Posts

hi I recently bought a wheel to GAIN an advantage on my friends but god damn how wrong was I, on any other game using a wheel project cars assetto corsa i would ruin my friends sometimes by more then 30 secs but on f1 it seems they have all the advantages of built in traction built in abs and even steering assist i cannot even get near and of my time trail times on the wheel which i have set using the pad i have to say this is absurd. Why codemasters are you the only company that still persists that control pads should be as fast as wheels this is so wrong. Watch trl limitless laps times on youtube look how easy it is for him on the pad it is pathetic he states he uses no assist but i think he must be hacking or something because wheel should be faster please please alter this codemasters basically my wheel is useless racing against these pads

get use to your wheel you'll get fast over time. i was on a pad for 2015. moved to a wheel 2 weeks later i beat all my time trial times. i can't use or go back to a pad now.

I think you need to practice, get gud and lighten up a little...

Im fast on a pad.. But I'm also getting a Thrustmaster TX next month because I want to add realism to the game and immerse myself more. I know I will be bad at first but it's a challenge.

*If my Thrustmaster comes with a label stating 'users WILL be faster' I will retract my whole statement.

Enjoy the game.

Codemasters would be daft to give any one peripheral an advantage, especially the wheel...  They try their hardest to get them as even as possible, but giving one device an advantage over the other would just isolate the other device users.

Each one has it's advantages but broadly speaking they look fairly even this year, you can't give someone a disadvantage for using a pad in the game because they may not have the space or be able to afford a wheel...

I'd advise you get better at using your wheel rather than moaning you are not as fast with it.  The speed potential is there, Alex Gillon, Noble and TyranoTigger are some of the fastest drivers in the game and they use a wheel...

i haven't seen any gameplay on f12016 from tyranotigger have you! noble and alex gillon when was a league last  won by these as the control pads are so overpowed even trl martin as binned his wheel and now uses a pad

Tyranno did the closed beta test on his wheel, I've seen his lap times, he's still super quick. Noble is one of the fastest, there's no denying that, just watch his YouTube channel.  And I sat next to Alex when testing the game,  he's really good on a wheel and very very fast.

If you expect to buy a wheel and be super quick the next day you will be very disappointed, but give it time and you'll be competitive again, just got to practice and have some patience.

@hellbound14 It's a tricky game to get right with a wheel at first but it's very rewarding once you get the hang of it. I made the switch from pad months ago, played F1 2015 and 2016 beta a lot, and I'm only just now starting to find about the same pace I have with a pad.  It takes a lot of time, but just keep practicing and you'll get there.

Hellbound14, your absolutely right in what your saying, I can relate to your claims as I've been using a wheel for all of CM's F1 games. The worst was F1 2013 +2014. Of course it wouldn't be right to favour one peripheral over the other, but it's ridiculous how much grip and hidden assists a pad has in this game. There are many who claim that they are faster with a pad than with a wheel, and believe me there is a lot of truth in this, and CM are fully aware of this and are trying their best to even it out. You will notice after a while that the pads are faster in the braking zones and corner exits due to hidden assists, take this away and eventually everything would be a level playing field. Online I don't stand a chance atm, pads are doing Barku in 1:43, that's diabolical!
I don't take much notice of these star racers like limitless, because they are using a PC platform, and with a PC one can adjust parameters to suit your needs. I use a ps4, because I like it raw.

I'm guessing  more of the top driver times are with controllers.  I was thinking of a wheel but I'm pretty sure I'll come to the same conclusion as I have with other games, that the controller is faster

I just found out about this whole hidden assists for controllers and I have to say I feel a bit.. betrayed. I've been doing hundreds of laps on time trial trying to get close to the top... and for example in  Sepang I can't make the last 4 seconds no matter what. Then I tried with my xbox controller and the breaking distance is pretty much 50 meters shorter on the hard breaking corners, like first and last corner.

I understand the reasoning... driving an F1 car with no assists on a controller would be madness. But why hide the assist? We can't see it in the results page, all that's displayed is what you selected in settings... and if you turn those off, you still have assists on controllers, only they don't show up in results

They should make a controller icon next to times set with a controller in the results. I'm sure there are fast wheel racers among the top... and it would be fair and I would accept my limitations with my G27, but knowing there are people setting times with controllers and hidden assists has just made me stop bothering altogether.

Waste of money. I'm not going to do online racing against people who have 50m breaking advantage on me...
