What happens when you max out the upgrades?

Recommended Posts

Well I have now just started season 3 with Renault as the only offers I've got were after season 1: Haas, STR, Sauber and Renault. Same four middle of the season 2. No offers after winning the title in my second season. By Mexico race in season 2 I've maxed out my upgrades and Renault lead the performance chart.

So basically I have a whole season of not doing practice sessions ahead of me as there is no point.

Sure you could say that I should up the difficulty but I think having the best car should result in me getting easy...ish wins. In the first season I got maximum RD points for each race and ceased development at Singapore. In the second season I just did the quali and tyre tests and still easily maxed out upgrades.

I'm expecting this third season to be more challenging when Ferrari and Mercedes upgrade past me.

I feel like the upgrades shouldn't reset every season. They just need to add levels of the car. One you've done all 25 upgrades, your car goes up a level. Starting in level 1, going up to level 2. Use a maximum of 5 levels so the upgrades will pretty much not end untill the end of the 10 seasons.

The Ai should also upgrade the car more, every time when they are able to and not 3 upgrades at once.

I think this would be a great thing to add. I don't think this is possible for F1 2016 but maybe something for F1 2017?

First off all, when you cease the r&d points: let us use the points after abu dhabi and before melbourne.
i never ever saw a team coming with the new car in the second race.
strange they didnt think about that.

i think they could make the r&d upgrades a bit more cheap so if you purple every session its possible to do the full upgrades in a year. But it must be very hard to get purple on the right difficulty for you ( matching teammate in q and race )
after each year the 25 upgrades are available again, but the performance bar could be where you left it the season before.
but in this case its a bit to much upgrades for a year i think. How much upgrades a season does a real team anyway?
red bull got 3 engine upgrades this year now right?

i really wish they could change something to expand the career, iam almost at the end of season 2 with mclaren, ceased the r&d points when i could.
Didnt do to much practise sessions to keep it a bit more interesting, i have almost 5000 r&d points.
thats almost enough to max out the mclaren allready.
i play without practice hud and dont hit everything purple.

they did go in the right direction with the r&d but the potential is so much more.

i want to struggle to get to the top and try to stay there, now i feel a bit like yeah season 3 must be the year to become champion and after that knowing i cant keep up, like what is the point... and yeah you read frustration here... career sounded so nice and even the game is great in many ways, still dissapointed.

Discussions are in progress and we'll get a proper response for you as soon as possible. Please be patient, there is always a lot going on so this might take a day or two to get all the relevant input put together and to write a response to cover all the issues raised about R&D and the upgrades.

Yeah and also the AI cars should reset with upgrades. That would make the game so much better and easy to understand because it makes sense.

I have a hard feeling Codemasters will apply it. But it would really save a 10 season careermode. It would make the game so much better.

You must be very young, it was common place back in the day for certain teams for that years car not to appear until a few races into the season :)

Ferrari did it in 2003 and 2005 I think. McLaren did most of 2003 season with an updated 2002 car because the 2003 car was a disaster that struggled to pass safety tests etc.

So wait are they going to change the R&D system? I'm on S4 in career and want to know is there any point in continuing if the R&D system is going to be changed.

I hope so.

If they reset the upgrades after each season with the preformance bars keeping the same it wont ruin your career.

What also might be a cool idea...:

Not just resetting the upgrades again. But if you have the 25 upgrades you have to pay 2000 R&D points to unlock another 25.

They should have preseason testing at Barcelona or Bahrain where you can try out the R&D upgrades for next season.  That way they are implemented for Australia race

Right! I'm curious as to how hard it could be to add basically an extended free practice session or two at Barca between seasons? @Britpoint

I know there's talk about the whole R&D path reset, but make that happen at race 1, so that for preseason testing, you still have to build on the previous R&D paths and then start fresh with race 1. That way the 25 upgrades are there for each season.

Very interesting actually. Like super cool. Say like its "choosing a new concept car, that has more development scope."

I don't see why they wouldn't consider it. Obviously, the current system is flawed and unless it's too much of an effort to change it via patch (it shouldn't be considering they can simply reset the upgrades every season but keep the cars in their relative positions + maybe a small shuffle here and there), Codemasters will change it.

They have been pretty good so far with F1 2016, let's give them a chance at least.
