Need help! Just Can not find time at all

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I recently posted about thinking there was issue with timing as ive tried everything to gain time but i just can't.
I mean everything from all assists on to all assists off, to doing hours and hours on time trial to get an idea of breaking points etc and set ups.
Tried so many set ups from different forums etc.
Ive played heaps in the past too (F1 2012, 2013, 2014, 2105) so im not new to these games. ive always played with assists off and a wheel.

Ive attached a link to 2 laps i did with red bull in melbourne with rich mix and soft tires. any feedback would be helpful. I just for the life of me dont know how people are posting times in the 1:26s etc in career.
i even cut corners in the 2 laps i did to emphasise how much time im trying to get. That 1:28.5 is literally fastest i can go. I can do it lap after lap but just not faster.
The difficulty is irrelevant because i want to do times that are reflective of higher difficulties.

Also i know its not the ultimate perfect lap but there's no way im losing 2 seconds from the imperfections, especially as i cut some corners hard and have rich mix on with 5 laps worth of fuel on board.

Anyway, comments appreciated
i still am doubtful tho where the hell i can gain 2 seconds on the faster lap. it just doesnt seem possible.
im always on accelerator as soon as possible and use trail breaking where appropriate too

also the initial lap time was set on medium tires.

I think it would have been a better video if you did a TT in the Mercedes as it looks like you're either in a quick race or career mode in a car which is not one of the fastest...  You will also of been suffering from tyre degradation after one hot lap.

From what I noticed is that you cut a lot of corners, and in this game this will slow down your car, it looks like you had ABS off but were you using medium TC?  Whenever you go off the tarmac your car will not have the optimum grip and it's harder to get on the power (or it bogs down with TC).  Try to stick more on the track, use a little kerb coming in to the corner and avoid them when powering out if you can.

Looks like you need to learn to trail brake, from what I can see you are threshold braking every corner, you are easing off the brakes to avoid locking up, then turning.  To gain time you need to brake hard in a straight line for the first phase then come off the brakes by about 50-60% which then allows enough grip to begin turning in whilst still slowing the car, then as soon as you're on the apex you can power much earlier out of the corner as you'll be on the optimum line.  There is some really good iracing tutorials on YouTube which talk you through the different types of braking and where to use them, it's all about apex speed...

Take a look at TRL Limitless's video of him hot lapping Australia, his car control and lines he takes look almost effortless compared to your lap, which looks a bit erratic and probably trying to hard, you don't need to cut to go fast, its quite the opposite...

Anyway, I'm not one of the quickest drivers in the game at all, I can only manage a 1:26 flat around Australia, but hopefully some of the quicker drivers will also pitch in and provide you with some tips.

I've always had an issue with the braking in this game. It just feels so ass backwards. Especially compared to the forza series. I know they are 2 completely different games but it just doesn't make sense that when I'm breaking from a long straight that I have to put the pedal all the way down and work back from there. Seems like that's when lock up occur in real life.

On another thread I asked how much time a good set-up could save you and the answer was it could save you a second plus, depending on the track, compared to a standard set-up. I don't know what set-up you were using on your laps, but a better set-up might help a bit.

EDIT: also, I think that in TT (maybe also in quick race?) your car has all the upgrades it can have, so will be faster than in career. I am not sure of this but recall reading it somewhere. I am not sure what mode you were in when you set your laptimes, so this may not be relevant anyway, even if i am right.

The best thing assists to use are medium traction and auto gears (or manul if u can). Abs on and racing line braking only. That should help to give u time

Thanks for reply guys. This was free practice.
I can get about 1:25.8 in TT with Mercedes but in career I'm always so far off. But thanks for tips especially @DauntingConch
lll avoid the rumble strips and stay on the Tarmac as much as possible.
I try using trail breaking. I find it causes under steer. But maybe I need to ease of more with it as I break.
The setup was one I found online, unfortunately was for Mercedes car but haven't found a redbull one. Those tyres were fresh.
Ill try nail a lap with clean/no cutting lines.
I didn't have any assists on- have been playing heaps so managed to keep traction even when kerb hopping. But maybe I'll try with medium TC.

Thanks again

I've also watched TRL limitless videos and his car appears to stick to the track. It has crazy turn-in. He must have such an optimum set up. And he plays on a pad. I don't know how he steers so smooth with a pad. Would like to see him play live actually.

He does go onto kerbs etc on exiting and cuts over corners (I do cut more tho granted)
i just feel like the lines aren't too dissimilar.
maybe I'm in denial

I feel like you aren't carrying enough speed into the corners, for instance at turn 2 i break as late as possible and trail break to hit the apex which allows me to get a better exit.

I think it's subtle changes that make big differences, and if you've mastered controlling the car with TC off then definitely start to look at your racing line.  He mentions in other videos its about getting the car as straight as early as possible so you can get on the gas as early as you can.

If you understeering under trail braking then you need to release the brake a touch more, another way is to just drop a gear and that helps rotate the car.

Whilst I'm not getting the top leader board times, I've found my pace get better from the watching the quick guys... Generally I'm a second or two off no. 1 times but the fun is continuing to improve, takes time though...

Ok I'll try break later. You can hear my breaking points. I thought they were pretty late but will give it a go. Thanks for tips

Ps I think TRL Martin has done some videos where you can see him working the pad at the same time, might be older than 2016 though.  I use a wheel so hats off to anyone who can go quick with a pad...

Arwboy. You have the fastest time. I tried following you on TT and using your set up.
I have no idea how you that smooth with the pad. Crazy

@Arwboy90
do you have the clip without the song over? So I can hear your breaking and acceleration?

@lyates1987 f1 cars use a brake by wire system that allows then to brake "backwards" also including that the cars lose downforce at slower speeds. If you look it up, you can find an article on it.

@SentryAlpha thanks for the info, I new it had that system but I didn't know it worked like that. My buddy doesn't play the game because he can't grasp the braking. I bet he'll start playing it now after I splain it to him
