Do Not Buy DiRT Rally If You Are Brazilian

Recommended Posts

No, this is not some blind rant, read it up a bit.

The quality of the Latin American port is just, well, questionable. It's even worse if you have the PS4 version, like I do, and cannot modify the game files yourself to fix it and make it playable.

Currently, unless you consider the co-pilot an unnecessary bonus to the gameplay, then the game is literally unplayable to Brazilian gamers. This is why:

  1. The game will be in Spanish, with no option to change it, unless your PS4 system's language is set to Portuguese. Not much of a problem but a big nuisance if you don't want to have your Playstation in Portuguese.
  2. But then co-pilot is not a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker. It's sometimes simply impossible to understand what he is saying and you have to constantly listen carefully through his foreign accent to understand what is happening. You will find yourself having to turn the HUD on and actually read the instructions instead of look at the track to know where you are supposed to go.
  3. And then the icing on the cake: the translation and port are so low quality that the co-pilot dialog's **is literally not synced with the tracks** in most of the sectors. If you play the game for more than 10 minutes you will start to realize that it's better to simply turn his voice off and **read** the HUD instead of listening to him, simply because he will literally (without any exaggeration) tell you to take a left when it's a right turn. This by default makes the game unplayable because you absolutely have to turn his voice off or he will literally fool you into doing something wrong. And then you will be reading the HUD for the whole game instead of actually looking at the track and racing.

Considering that listening to the co-pilot is literally one of the main mechanics of the game this is just absurd.

As I said, do not buy this if you are Brazilian. I'm currently contacting Sony to get a refund though our legal system (which guarantees that we can get a refund in 7 days) (article 49 of CDC)

I know that either the mods will try to hide this or that fans will try to shame this, but there is no excuse to sell such a broken, low quality product. If you defend this then you are by definition selfish and corrupt, willing to protect a company because it is not ripping you off directly.

Thanks for your time, I hope that someone from Codemasters get to read this. Or that some Brazilian will read this before buying it.

Why would they? Why would we? These are not Project CARS devs, or fanboys. ;)

You do seem to handle english very well though, why not use english in menus and co-driver?

My language isn't even in the game.

I came here to say the same things that OP did.

There simply isn't any way to change the language in the game. It's either PORTUGUESE if your PlayStation system language is in Portuguese or SPANISH if it's anything else. That's it. This is because we are stuck with the Latin American version if we buy it here.

It honestly feels like an insult to not even have an option to simply switch languages and get the non-cheap-port version of the gameplay.

This is not what I expected from Code Masters and is probably the last game I will ever buy from them. At least it taught me the lesson of always looking out for Latin American Ports before buying a game.

Or you can buy the PC version and don't have those issues ;)

Though it is quite strange why you can't switch the language to English... I personally also hate those copies that have only language specific to your location. What's the point of that? I can understand why would someone be highly displeased with such a thing but cannot comprehend why in this day and age this is still a thing...

I wanted to say you could turn-off the co-driver and simply follow of the pace notes, but given you're on the console and the devs for some ridiculous reasons decided to not allow you to lower the volume of some sounds to 0%, well... you're quite stuck there.

I also just came here to say the same.

I have the Latin American version in PT-BR.

Not only I can't change my language, but the Co-Pilot is literally broken, making the game unplayable. It's ok in some levels but absolutely broken in most of them.

Does anyone know how to get a refund from the Playstation Store?

If anyone is wondering, this video shows how bad it is (turn CC on):

This reminds me that the XBone actually has a feature to do exactly this. You can set your home region and separate language. Guess it doesn't help you on PS4 though.

We have had this feedback a few times and it is something we are bearing in mind for future projects.

What do you mean "we are bearing in mind for future projects"?

Are you implying that Codemasters is intentionally selling a defective product (while hiding the defect to the potential buyer) with no intention to fix it?

This is literally a crime here in Brazil. Please tell me I got it wrong, because a Rally game with no Co-Pilot is just unplayable.

I'd bet it's a regional restriction like Origin does too in order to prevent i.e. American's buying games in SA/Eastern Europe/Russia where the cost after applying currency rate would be really, really small.
IMHO it's wrong, I can't switch some games from polish to english too, even though I prefer to listen to original sounds/read original texts and not translations which are often low quality.

If I buy a game I expect to be able to play it in original and untransformed way.

This is something all developers/publishers should reconsider not only Codemasters, so spread the word because this solution is getting more popular.

Dirt rallys sullution to this would to only make the Co-driver langage selecable. The rest of the text would be tied to the countries language.
