RANK THE F1 GAMES (CODIES SERIES)

Recommended Posts

It's been nearly a month since F1 2016 came out, and I think we can all agree it's one of the better editions of the Codemasters series. This is a list I've always deliberated heavily on over the years, but I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks.

Here's my ranking:
  1.  F1 2010 - Still the most playable, enjoyable (even if the graphics and handling are out of date) - for the time it came out, I was on it everyday for the whole year. (Did 8 Career Mode Seasons) - 9/10
  2.  F1 2012 - Really fun game, with loads of features, particularly the tiering system which made Career Mode great to play for a good few seasons. (Did 4 Career Mode Seasons) - 8/10
  3.  F1 2013 - Just as fun as 2012, with added classic features that everybody loved (and wish would be brought back). Was a little similar to 2012 in gameplay but great nonetheless. (Did 3 Seasons) - 8/10
  4.  F1 2016 - By far the best game as far as handling and graphics are concerned, but the great idea of Career Mode longevity is already dying out because there are too few upgrades to put on your car. Also online still isn't up to the quality of the old sprint lobbies from 2010-14. (Done 1 1/2 Seasons so far) - 7.5/10
  5. F1 2015 - A great jump forward for graphics and handling onto new-gen, but totally lacking in features (especially Safety Car), meaning play wasn't so enjoyable after 3 or so months. (Did 3 Seasons) - 7/10
  6. F1 2011 - Fun for when it came out at times, with good online capabilities, but handling and graphics were so unrealistic that it just got silly after a while. (Did 3 Seasons) - 6/10
  7.  F1 2009 - Shouldn't really be counted, but there were some fun features beyond Career Mode. Graphics on the Wii were awful and handling was insane, but was enjoyable for a fair few weeks at the time (Did 2 Seasons) - 5/10
  8. F1 2014 - Very boring game. Had little different to offer after 2012 and 13, taking away more features than adding them, whilst handling and graphics weren't improved either. Partly worth it for the jump to new-gen, but online, career and quick race were all just not fun to play. (Did 1 Season) - 3/10
Of course, these are just my opinions, and I know people do get heated about this ranking. What I want to achieve from this is to see what the most consistently enjoyed F1 game is by everyone, and hopefully then we can find the centreground for what to focus on.

So leave your ranking below along with some thoughts and reasons if you like. Thanks!

F1 2015 - In terms of detail, a very good game, lacked features
F1 2012 - Good handling, decent AI, Safety car, a highlight.
F1 2010 - Solid opener when the initial issues patched. Excellent online. Later updates then screwed it.
F1 2014 - Lacked features, but gameplay was solid
F1 2011 - 11:11 bug was game breaking in a sim sense, online poorly managed and questionable handling.
F1 2013 - Similar to F1 2013, handling poor, poor racer. Classic content only reprieve.

All considered without the gamebreaking bugs that followed the release of most of them.

My list, based entirely on how much fun I had personally with the game rather than objective quality.

1. F1 2013 - Did something like 9 seasons of career, and hundreds of online races across various leagues and groups.

2. F1 2014 - Controversial? Maybe. Didn't play more than one season of career mode, but had the best, closest and most competitive season of league racing I've ever had.

3. F1 2010 - Didn't play a huge amount of online, but loved the career mode.

4. F1 2016 - Still early days on this one, may move up or down the list based on how the various patches go. So far I'm enjoying it though.

5. F1 2012 - Got me into league racing and was the catalyst for me eventually splashing out on a wheel.

6. F1 2011 - Never really got into this one. Handling model was weird. Did play a lot of co-op career though.

7. F1 2015 - Digital cancer. Pretty (ish) but that was about it. Platinum achieved, disc fired into the centre of the sun.

8. F1 2009 - Never actually played it, so I can't really comment.

F1 2013- I have played something like 600 hours. Probably the best last gen handling game! i did 6 seasons of career mode and I still play the online and time trial to this day

F1 2015-By far the game I was best at and the best I felt to drive on. I felt if the game had the features that f1 2016 had for career mode, It would have beaten f1 2013 for sure! Also if it had harder achievements to earn and scenario mode!

F1 2012-The first game I played, again around 600 hours played, can't really remember playing it too much, all I remember is I used to have alot of fun!

f1 2011- I haven't played it an awful lot (1 split screen season and 3 races of career mode). However what I have played of it was very fun and I feel if I had a wheel for last gen it would have been above f1 2012. Also I loved the graphics and just in general how visually appealing the game was!

F1 2016- Already 120 hours played and it's starting ti become boring. It needs screnario mode, and I really do not enjoy driving on the game. It just doesn't feel as smotth and nice as it did on f1 2015. Also I feel they went too far with the controller vibration. I just feel it was the best they have ever done but not with enough. after 2 seasons of career mode i'm bored of the game. Because I struggle to keep up with legend in a mclaren. But I can still do top 300 times in tt, I don't have the time to do career mode with school and everything. Aswell as balancing playing games with freindswell! I just feel it has become too much and we need some more kinda quick mode features

F1 2014- It was alright, I feel I didn't play ti much purely because of the plain and blandless of it. Also the reptetive ness. Only thing I enjoyed was online!
F1 2010- I haven't played an awful lot but what I saw,I liked maybe it deserved higher idk. I

|F1 2009- It was kinda s hit show, I played it on pc and you could just about make out that there was a car there! It was probably 360p or less. I played it alot as a little 9 year old, but still was their starter game so I give them that

1. F1 2010 - Controversial possibly, but for its time it was addictive. Career mode was nearly as immersive as 2016 and I have great memories from excitingly tight seasons and races. Handling and lighting may not be the best (bloody rear-wheel spins every corner) but the graphics were good for a follow-up to something small on the Wii. (did 7 career mode seasons)

2. F1 2016 - The career mode is so immersive, with a true kind of feeling that you're the real-life driver. There is R&D, contracts, you name it. Graphics top it off, and the lighting works well. The handling model, however, is atrocious, the opposite to F1 2010 as there is understeer at every corner (try doing Melbourne in a Williams). (so far, done four seasons)

3. F1 2013 - Again, great graphics, though the lighting lacked a bit. The handling model was spot-on, though, which led to so many races of fun side-by-side battling. Career mode kind of sucked, but any quick race was just as good. Online multiplayer was well structured. Unfortunately, the classic mode was ok but nothing to shout about. (did 1 career mode season)

4. F1 2012 - A mix between F1 2010 and F1 2013, this was the game that led its series into a new era. Lighting improved from the previous two games, and the handling certainly improved from the joke it was in 2011, but still the graphics were terrible.  Career mode got less immersive and put to the side on 2012, though, which is why it's only fourth. (did 2 careermode seasons)

5. F1 2014 - Practically a carbon copy of F1 2013, except with the classic mode taken away. I wonder what Codemasters were doing that whole winter... (did 0.5 career mode seasons)

6. F1 2009 - Yes, true, handling, graphics and lighting were stupid jokes, and yes, the first Codies game, but it was much better than the two evils of 2011 and 2015. Career mode was ok at the time. (did 3 career mode seasons)

7. F1 2015 - Absolutely horrible. As somebody jas already quoted, digital cancer. Sure, graphics stepped forward loads, but everything else just got worse. 2015 saw so many crucial features get taken away, including the safety car. Career mode didn't even appear here, either, but it's the lesser of the two evils here. (Did NO career mode seasons as it wasn't there).

8. F1 2011 - aagh get it away prom me plz plz plz (did 0.5 career mode seasons)

10 as it was the first f1 game in ages.
13 because the classics and classic tracks were SO MUCH fun.
All the rest are just average games. I'd like to see how a codies employee ranker them though.
