Time To Give it Up - Call it 2015

Recommended Posts

You aren't seriously going to release a game after half the year is over and name it for that year are you?  Just give up and rename it 2015, release it around Christmas, and that will give you more time to try to integrate all of the wonderful suggestions your customers have sent you.  Believe me, we will wait a few more months for a better, non buggy product.  Anyone else agree?

F1 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013 were released around Sept-Oct time - that's over half the year isn't it? So what difference does it make for 2014? lol

I'm hoping they announce F1 2014 sometime in August.

Just be patient.

Codemasters did do a game called F1 Online which was for PC, but that has now been closed. But you can sure play one of the main titles online on PC.

I did actually propose this idea once but was accused of being a troll. I'm sure I've seen an interview in which highlights their intentions to bring the release date forward in the year.

There would be more time to commit to the game, cancelling out more glitches and adding more features. You think they'll get the AI pecking order wrong? Tyre behaviour? This, that and the other? The chances are they will, but why should that be a dilemma? There's these magical things called patches...

Ervis1987,

Have you tried Steam?  That's what you need to play F1 on PC.  They are the host site for it..

Ollie,

I just bet they had no idea that so many suggestions were going to be made, all of which would be an improvement.  And I think they are going to need more time for that, and to make something that will stand above Assetta, Project, iRacing, Rfactor, Grid Forza etc...  After all, if they turn out another so-so game, well, that may be a wrap for Codemasters, considering their history with this title.

I agree I think that's part of the reason why they're taking their time over the announcement of F1 2014 as well they want to make sure they have everything in place. Yes there are internal issues but I don't think they are the only reason why they've held back. I'm almost certain though it'll get announced at some point in the summer break before the next GP in Spa. I think they realise they have to do something official soon as it's starting to get ridiculous.

i think if there is no news around spa. i give up on codemasters and just stick to  rfactor and iracing. both  of their "coming soons" come way quicker than codies

Im going to call out T4RG4 on this one:

think i read all those same twiiter "expressions" somewhere before? hmm like any time over the past 4 years when you need something from CM F1.

Let me start by saying this, hats off to the guys for bringn  back to the main stream what was placed on the history shelf  for consoles ....F1 games!  well done

and in due recognition for their efforts, F1 2010 was awarded a BAFTA!

then look at where we are now!

so

lets re-capp

F1 2010 =  released Singapore GP Wkend (Fri Free Practice)

F1 2011 = released Singapore GP Wkend (Fri Free Practice)

F1 2012 = released Singapore GP Wkend (Fri Free Practice)

F1 2013 = released Singapore GP Wkend (Fri Free Practice)

F1 2014 = released Singapore GP Wkend (Fri Free Practice)  Well it should be

BUT WAIT!

by now, and a LOOONG time before even the "official"  release news, we had screen shots, and we knew these couldn't be counted on as they would always say things like WORK IN PROGRESS IN WHITE WRITING OVER THEM

hairymuff...  have i even seen one snippet of a screen shot?  NOPE. it's 8 weeks or so till the RELEASE date and STILL no images not even a few leaked shots!

maybe there's nothing to leak!??  would make more sense no?

so here's my Call out on T4RG4 and the entire CM f1 team

Tried for F1 2014 next gen only , too hard to just copy existing code etc, too much memory they have never had or been used to, they can do MUCH MUCH MORE in terms of pit lane animations podiums etc, they WILL be trying to do what we have all asked for years but they have only just been set free on the next gen platforms, so it's all NEW territory. (i.e. having your pit crew AND the engineering crew animated at the same time, saving you being put on the dolly in Free practice session just to change boots, why cant we just ask for new Tyre come in during free practice and then carrer out again, ahh memory on THIS GEN, cant have both pit teams in the pit at the same time (im paraphrasing a conversation i had with T4RG4 via twitter a couple of years ago now.)

SO there will be NO F1 2014, not even on old gen.. WHY?

well they have been focusing on the NEXT GEN game, they could released F1 2013 with some lipstick on  but who wants that?  considering F1 2013 is on par with F1 2012... it prob cost more to rejig a game for this year and sell it as the sales are not going to be spectacular as they wont have been able to improove on 2013. not seeing since they have spent all their time on NEXT GEN 2014...

So, do CM CARE if they dont release a game this year?

in short NO
go back to 2009 for those with short memories. YAAAAY CM have brought the F1 license, finally we will have more F1 games!  wait what no 2009 on xbox or ps3?

even their SUITS UPON HIGH were mad as hell, millions paid for a license and no game being released.. are they mad, who needs to be fired?  but wait, we will do one on the PSP call it F1 2009, and then we can concentrate on the F1 201, and make a BAFTA winning game!

HUUURAH GAMBLE PAID OFF, 2010 pulled in SHED loads of money, all is forgiven...

so cue 5  years later and we are back in a similar situation.....

you will be told

SORRY NO F1 2014 THIS YEAR

we do have a F1 2014 on mobile app or for the ps vita only,  but hey listen we PROMISE next years will be GREAT!

im not that angry at them as i would rather have a better 2015 next gen experience than same old same old watering down a winning formula into drivel (cough 2013 cough)

what annoys me and fellow fans is the expectation that something great is going to happen, but not now.. in like 2 years time.. well then just bloody SAY IT!

so in short
no 2014 for next gen
no 2014 for this gen
2014 maybe on some pikey mobile app or some poor soul on a vita will get a  version of 2014... THAT will please the suits on high, they hink they are getting moneys worth for the cost of a licence

but im betting it will be 2015 now

but in CLASSIC CM fashion you will
A:  be told like a week before release date should of happened or
B:  they just go dark, and poor old Hata has to come back on after a few weeks and try and explain what those upon high have decided!

end of the day, this long in releasing information on a new game has always either indicated a software house is going down (unlikely here)  or that the game has been canceled / shelved or just down right kicked to the curb

It's a win win for me anyways...
im right or im wrong. and to be honest id love to be wrong!

Heart believes it
head says otherwise

See you all online around the Official F1  Singapore Race 2015 ;-)

Guys, look at the Formula One game twitter account. The reveal is planned and I imagine it'll be this week.

I agree I think it'll happen within the next couple of weeks. I don't think they'll want to wait too much longer

I am upset about the lack of consistency with them and FOM or whatever makes them delay, each year it has gotten worse..  First year all the diary , etc, and now nothing......   They should be more consistence..... I almost want to believe, since they have the power of play with us they do now......

Steve tweet said he is going to vacation.... must be nice.... for these poor guys... I am really pissed off./

This whole trend of people throwing all of their toys out of the pram because Codemasters won't announce the game. The game is coming out, whether they announce it tomorrow, the day after, or next week won't change that.

F1 is a completely different sport to Football, Basketball, etc, and unfortunately Codemasters won't have the budget comparable to that of E.A. Where as the Fifa games, the sport remains quite similar year to year, and in general teams that do well one year are likely to perform on a similar level next year, and they play at all the same stadiums it's feasible to be able to release the 2014 game in 2013.

However with Formula 1 the order can change season to season even when the regulations stay relatively similar, i.e McLaren and Sauber 2012 > 2013. So when there is a massive regulation change like this year it would be foolish to chuck a 2014 game out at the start of the season based on the cars performance in 2013, or pre season testing.

Edit: Forgot to mention the tracks, there would be no point releasing the game in April, when tracks like Russia haven't even been seen. The point I was trying to make is that EA know what old Trafford look like, but Codemasters would have a hard time making the Russian GP look authentic if they were aiming for an April release and the track hasn't been built yet

F1 is a racing game, and personally I would prefer they built a solid racing game, instead of forcing a game out so you can play along with the season as it unfolds.

Also your point about if things are wrong they can just patch it is completely invalid. To patch a game requires extra work, and on top of that to put a patch on consoles (for Xbox 360 at least, not sure about ps3) developers have to pay £20,000 every time they want to patch a game. So it's not feasible for Codemasters to patch the game every weekend because they got the tyre compounds wrong for the race, or because they got the A.I completely wrong. In addition to this the attitude of rushing a game out in an unfinished state with the intention of patching it later is an absolute plague on the industry and I have no idea why anyone would be supporting that.

tl;dr stop being impatient because you want it now, it'll be better for it if they take their time

At least PS4 doesn't have fees for patches anymore, which is great.

I hope Codemasters keep the game alive after the release with patches/upgrades other than just bug fixing and RaceNet time trials.

Ah that's good. I wasn't 100% if the PS3 did, but I just remember when Minecraft was released on Xbox there was MASSIVE UNDERSTEER controversy because they didn't have to pay the patch fees but every other developer did.

No patch fees is a good thing because hopefully that'll mean consoles will get patches as regularly as PC versions because the PC version of F1 always has updates on steam, but they seem to wait for a while before rolling all the updates into one big console update.

I've always wished/hoped that they'd utilize the data they have from previous games and just put every track they've made into the game available to play in Grand Prix mode. I miss racing at Turkey and surprisingly Valencia. Although I imagine it has something to do with the license, ahh well.
