Idea- Classic Career Mode

Recommended Posts

Hello.
I was reading some posts at this forum, and I saw a comment which said that Career Mode isn't so good because it uses every year the same drivers, the same cars, and, at some point of the career, the cars are just like in the begginings. Then, I remembered the DLC pack of F1 2013 (with 90's cars). So, I thought it would be a good idea that a Career Mode started with cars and drivers of a year (2007, for example, or the year they can with the licenses they have) and then, teams will be disappearing as they did in real life, or changing, drivers retiring or switching teams, the cars changing, the tracks, etc, until 2017.
Yes, I know this should be so difficult to do, for the number of cars, tracks and drivers they had to do, so it would be almost impossible. But, as an idea, would you like a Career Mode like this?
Greets, bye.

I think he meant as an add-on, not to replace what we currently have.

Sounds like F1 challenge 99-02. Not a bad idea though, but then what happens R&d wise?

I'd slightly rather gp2 and gp3 to be added (skippable for those who dont wish to do it), but id take this if they did it. The have the licenses back to 09 at least?

Yes, it would be good if they add Gp2 and Gp3, but they would need licenses, and I think they can't move Gp drivers to F1 Team due to FOM.

I'd really like that. It won't happen due to licences, but I'd really like it. A lot more than GP2 in my opinion

Probably not nearly as many licenses as they'd need to do a proper classic F1 career mode like the one the OP described. Licensing current stuff is way easier than licensing old stuff, where the rights owners are hard to track down or may not even exist any more, or may be so old that they've had no experience with licensing their properties for digital media... just look at how few cars, tracks and drivers they managed to get for the classic mode in F1 2013.

It would be impractical for the R&D with the licensing. Would be nice to have an option to choose whether you want realistic car performances for each season (so Red Bull dominating for 2011 and 2013 and not so good in 2014) or the way it is supposed to be now so teams swapping places (For example Renault could be the best car in 2016) but I'm sure the license wont allow anything but realistic.

I'd like GP2/GP3. They race all the circuits F1 races anyway and it's just modelling 1 car and multiple skins. I'd like to race a GP2 and GP3 season in career or just generally. Would be pretty fun.

Who needs GP2? They just need to reintroduce the McLaren Honda MP4-30...

(Just joking)

It would be interesting to see how far people get in career with F1 2016 before abandoning the whole game and moving onto something else. Ten seasons is about 200 races and add on to that practice and qualifying and it ends up being a really large number of laps. This, of course, doesn't reply to the original post, but I suspect the vast majority of people racing now won't make it through 10 seasons. Think of those who absolutely MUST pick Mercedes as their first team in career because they're more interested in winning than going through the development and growth of a team. A lot of people, I think, will be gone from the game and this forum in a few months or as soon as something else new in the driving world hits the racks. From that perspective (and the probability that there will be a new F1 2017 game next year), I doubt there's much incentive to program in features that would give the game a long playlife. And serious racers are probably going to move on to the sims instead. I don't disagree that it would be nice to have changes year to year and that starting a career with 2006 cars and working forward wouldn't be great. But that requires a lot of dedication on the driver's part and what I fear is a small market to attract developers.

Unfortunately, I think they won't be able to use all the cars from the previous years since past the last FOM deal, they have to get individual licenses from companies I believe. This is why the McLaren MP4/4 didn't show up in the Classic Edition of 2013 ( even though the MP4-27 was there). So to go back and license IP from every team (including currently competing teams) would be a large ask. Though personally I would absolutely LOVE to drive around in JB's Brawn!

Codemasters have had lucensing since 08 or 09 though, so if the licensing contracts were written in the right way they may be able to go ahead and use the cars, drivers and teams for each of the years since?

They've said before their license is to make a game every year with that season's assets only. Anything else requires them to go and license (or re-license) any required content separately.

seeing as we got career mode back for this year it's made championship season (I think that's what is called the one season thing we had in F1 15) redundant, I think codemasters should use that for any classic content, and give us all the teams, drivers, tracks and rules from any particular season so lets say 98 for example. Then after we have completed that season and has long as we've completed at least one season of career mode we could swap out tracks from the current tracks used and add the ones from the classic season or keep all the tracks from the current season and add any track which isn't used now in the classic season, and with any track which is in both you have to choose which version you want to use like 98 Silverstone or current Silverstone
