Varying performance across different tracks

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm observing quite a strong difference in performance between different tracks. I would like to understand how others feel about this.

Is this fluctuation due to:
  • AI performance differing across tracks
  • My own driving skills/style/track knowledge
  • Differences between cars
  • Differences between controls (pad vs. wheel) - technical tracks such as Monaco perhaps easier with a wheel?
Tracks where I'm performing poorly:
  • Monaco
  • Baku
  • Hungary
  • Singapore
The tracks where I'm particularly strong:
  • China
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Italy
I'm on a PS4 with a pad (Fanatec wheel still not working :-()

I think it's a combination your particular skill at different tracks and some AI balancing. Personally I thought the AI were too slow at Singapore for example, I qualified on pole with a Mclaren in the first season on Ultimate, when looking at the sector times the first two sectors I did very similar times to the AI, a bit slower compared to the leaders, but in S3 I was consistently over half a second quicker. So I think there's just a couple of corners for some tracks where the AI are missing pace while they're very strong on others.

Some other tracks I was really struggling, Mexico and Abu Dhabi I couldn't match my team mate, but these aren't my best tracks so I wasn't too confident. Curious to see how it'll go in the next season.

I also think the AI's quite a bit slower in wet conditions compared to dry, I was usually in the midfield during dry sessions, but when it rained I'd qualify and finish in the top 3.

Not sure, but when i look at the tracks its obvious you do well on (easier) tracks with long straights where low dowforce is needed, and less on (more difficult) narrow (street) tracks where high downforce is needed.

Obviously it's partially about how we handle a particular track, but there are tracks/sectors/corners where AI is definitely overpowered or lacks pace. I can't remember all of the examples I experienced, but I'll share some of them with you to compare.

AI seems quicker in:
  • Australia
  • Spain (super fast sector 3, especially turn 10 and 14-15)
  • Monaco (I guess I just don't drive well there)
  • Silverstone (again, I guess my fault)
  • Mexico (technical sector 3)
  • Abu Dhabi (only in FP and Q, AI seems to massively lose pace in race, but AI has insane acceleration in turn 9)
AI seems slower in:
  • Bahrain
  • China (mostly sector 1)
  • Hockenheim
  • Spa
  • Monza
  • Sepang
So I guess it's a similar pattern in my case. Tracks with long straights give me an unjustified handicap, while I might lack a little skill on more technical tracks.
