Dirt Rally startup crash

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

just got DiRT Rally today on STEAM. I get a black (full)screen for 1 to 2 seconds after the splashart every time I try to launch it. No error messages, not even logs in the gamedir when starting with "--logging" parameter.

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 14393) German
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU X 980 (12 CPUs)
12 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7970 CF latest drivers (21.19.0137.0001)
ASUS Xonar Essence ST
Drive C  (SYSTEM) 26 GB free
Drive G (GAME) 120 GB free
Primary resolution 3840 x 2160

I tried verifying the game cache, disabling additional displays and disconnecting game controllers.
DiRT Showdown is working fine however.

Any ideas ? (similar problem ITT: http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/46622/dirt-rally-crashes-on-startup#latest)

/twine

It's just -logging for Dirt, apparently (--logging was for GRID) - and the file does not appear in the game directory, but in the userdata folder. Mine is E:\Steam\userdata\76379922\310560\local\logs

Get the devs attention here by tagging them - or mail them the logging file (and a dxdiag file) to dirtgame@codemasters.com.

Thank you @Porkhammer , I was trying out different parameters but of course wasn't searching for the logs in that directory. I wrote an E-Mail to the support an will post updates here.
BTW the log has the following content:
Codemasters Log - drt.exe - 03/10/2016 16:18

Save system started, save folder is 'G:\steam\userdata\84346477\310560\local\savegame'

Gaining focus

Brand new glitch.I have not had any problems until now. The current Leagues (Reddit Sim Rally) sector 3 will not load. After selecting the event the splash screen starts to load and crashes to desktop. This is the only problem.Local files have been verified. Will see about getting you a log file

So, apparently buying a new graphics card (gtx 1080) did the trick for me, however I did not get any reply to my E-Mail. :/

Having the same problem also..see the splashscreen for a sec then it crashes.   Has anyone figured out a fix to this yet?...didn't quite understand if the post above was solved or not. I can send my pc specs if needed. Thanks

Like this...  @Hatward

They are very busy at the moment, (they may, or may not, be working on a new game, or updating parts of an older game, who knows) and it's now nearly 3am on a Saturday morning in the UK so you might not get a reply for a couple of days. But the man who can will see it when he gets to work on Monday

Thanks for the heads up @SkiddyMcCrash! We are indeed slammed at the moment but hopefully @CMMcBabe can help.

Could you drop us some more information on your PC please?  Either post some on here or email the dxdiag to dirtgame@codemasters.com

Hi Devs! Also wanted to mention that I have the same problem. I installed the game yesterday and played about half an hour. I had no problems during this initial run, though I still need to calibrate my XBox 360 controller to make it less twitchy. I had to go so something else, so I exited the game. When I went to launch the game, the DirectX install window comes up, then the DiRT3 logo, then grey screen. It doesn't advance to the game and locks up my computer. I hard-restarted my machine and launched the game again, with the same result. Third time, I found this forum, which suggested the "Verify Game Files" function. This time, launching showed the InstallAL (something like that) window, then the DiRT3 logo, then grey screen, no game.

I am running DiRT3 Complete Edition (I hope this isn't the wrong thread) on a Lenovo Z70-80 laptop, and I'm emailing my dxdiag to you guys (I can't attach it here, I guess?) Thanks!
