Colin McRae Rally 1 in HD :-)

Recommended Posts

I was messing around with dgVoodoo2's Direct3D wrapper (http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2.html). It's not perfect (no fog at the moment), but it makes good old McRae 1 from 1998 look rather nice!

This is after I installed CMR via my guide (which is a bit out-of-date now, plus I installed it in Win8.1 then upgraded to Win10, so I'm not sure how complex a reinstall is now): http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/5343/colin-mcrae-rally-1-on-win8-1-how-i-get-it-super-smooth-also-on-win8-partly-updated-for-win10/

Anyway, here's some screen candy at 1920x1440 (I didn't hack the game into widescreen; there's discussion of how to here, but it's technical! http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Colin_McRae_Rally) - click each for full size!

p.s. unlock the Celica by entering your name in Championship mode to BEEFCAKE ;-)

Hey, how did you managed to get it working on Win 10 ?

For me i install CMR with 1.5 European patch then add files from dgVoodoo and D3RM to the executable location (with Win 98/ME compability) and menus are lagging, game is crashing what ever i choose (Championship, Time Trial, Rally School).

Can you please help with step-by-step tutorial ? Like with every detail (even if i need to install those video stuff from original install). I already tried with your old tutorial but no luck.

I am trying to play this game for like 1 year i didn't have any success. Not with even VMs. But i wanted to try to use this http://adolfintel.com/?p=wined3d/index.frag but it is complicated for games below DX 7.

The menus were lagging for me without dgVoodoo. I don't know what D3RM is for.

This was my original guide: http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/5343/colin-mcrae-rally-1-on-win8-1-how-i-get-it-super-smooth-also-on-win8-partly-updated-for-win10

If you use Windows10 you don't need the Application Compatibility Toolkit fix

Thanks to dgvoodoo and the inventor of the widescreen-fix we can now play Colin McRae Rally 1 in flawless HD, that is awesome.

Here you can find the person that found the fix for widescreen:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J17PkmlfpSg&lc=z12mjhlwqpaogbgqq04cefrgqxu1tfizb3k

Originally it worked only with the Cheat-Engine, but he now posted some new values for dgvoodoo.

The 16:10-value he posted resulted in a flawless 16:9-aspect ratio:

16:9 dgvoodoo values: 4755ADBF, 47552D40, 3333133F

This post made me install the game on my windows 10 rig and it actually worked although i had to fiddle around with the settings.
Anyway nice to play the game again and while i was at it i made a new livery for the game. Not sure if all went right but got it to work in the game :-). It is the Rally San Remo 1998 version (Colin McRae & Derek Ringer).

You can download the custom livery here:

Update: if you get (at least) the latest WIP version 29 from here, then the fog is now present! http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=51790&p=559723

Additionally, if you choose the ATI Radeon 8500 profile in the DirectX tab, you will get dark black key lines around the edge of trees/fences, which IMO looks a bit better and less "bitty" than the video above. I can't remember if it's accurate or not though, on period era hardware!

I am sill not getting anywhere. Game crashing, can't get into main menu with dgVoodoo, i don't know how to setup dgVoodoo. Nobody did provide proper guide how to setup dgVoodoo (General Setting, Videocard, Texturing, Behaviour,...) to make this game even working.

EDIT: i found this video but it doesn't solve my problem.
EDIT2: my problem was solved by installing Win7 patch and running it in compability for Windows 7. I do have some weird colours in main menu but in gameplay, grafhics look good.
