"Strict" corner cutting rules

Recommended Posts

Me and probably many others have patiencetly waited for fixes with corner cutting rules but there are no signs that there is ever going to be any. At least I am really sick and tired of "strict" rules that F1 2016 presents when many corner can be cut by miles. I haven't even raced on every track of the game but had some spare time and decided to show three of the worst cuts I know.

1) Australia, turns 11 and 12. These were pointed out during the beta face and no fixes have been made.
2) Spain, turn 15. I personally pointed this out in F1 2015 and once again if F1 2016 beta. Codemasters answered in the beta that "it can be cut but you can't gain time with it." Well, look at the video below...
3) Baku, turn 15. You can easily gain a few tenths with cutting the corner.

Worst part, specially for Spain and Baku is that it's more consistent to cut. Both of those corners are quite tricky if you want to stay between the white lines but with corner cutting you have no problems at all.

These doesn't bother me offline because I never intend to corner cut. But because I also league race, there are too many possibilities for corner cutting and because most of our leagues racers are competitive, they intend to cut every corner they can.

(And actually, I forgot to add one corner cutting place what came to my mind writing this. Germany and turn 1.)

Don't forget Mexico's turns 2 and 3. Especially turn 3. And if you go wide by a millimeter, you get a warning.
Like I said in the opening post, I haven't played all tracks and Mexico is one of them. Cutting but running wide sounds very similar to Germany and turn one, you can cut but you can't run wide.

I am hoping that others as well tell certain corners that need fixing. I just pointed out the worst of the worst (for myself).

Nice video and post man, I agree. The ones I noticed so far, australia turn 1 & 12. Bahrain turn 2 and the hairpin one (9 or 10?), china last turn. Russia is up next ^^

Yeah I also spoke about these same corners multiple times during the beta. Australia turn 12 and Spain turn 15 are hilarious because it would take 2 laps of testing to find out that the corner cutting rules are not up to scratch. To say "that no advantage can be gained" is just plain wrong. I just don't understand the thought that strict corner cutting is fine on this game. Its way way worse than F1 2015's strict. Russia is another huge corner cutting track, you can cut nearly every corner on the inside kerb. Also easily gain 2 tenths straight-lining the exit of turn 2.

Yeah, F1 2015 was wayyyy better. I think that worst thing about this years rules is that they are very inconsistent. You can cut the entire corner sometimes and get a penalty in the next corner for missing your braking point and running wide. F1 2015's strict rules were really simple and you always knew if you were going to get a penalty or not. Some people thought that strict was too harsh but at least rules were simple and same for every track.

I can't get my head around the fact that Codemasters have managed to turn players hopes for worse. Biggest harm on last years rules was that you got a penalty almost every time you went off-track (extending). Now you'll still get a penalty for running wide but can cut the inside kerb in many occasions.

@Lozzy, can you comment on this when you have time?

I think they should keep the 3 strikes system, with enforcing the F1 2015 corner cutting rules. While there are some tracks though where F1 2015 was ridicolously strict, it is still better then what we have now.

It feels like the rules are working on the corner exits,  but are completly broken on the inside kerbs.Therfore there are huge inconsistencies

I was earlier talking about the inconsistency of the rules.. Well, we had our league race tonight and I got a warning (in turn 12) for a much smaller cut than those shown in the video on the opening post. What's the logic behind this?

There are a couple of variables such as speed, line, time gained (calculated by the game) I think. But that would mean that slower drivers get to abuse more than faster ones and that logic is just off. The track limits are defined by the white lines and not by how much you can gain.
