Used Tyres at the Start of a Race

Recommended Posts

This may have already been answered, but I couldn't find one.
During P1,P2 and P3 I use the allocated starting tyres, in this case Med. Soft and Hard for Catalunya. During Short Qualifying I used softs, and only did about 6 laps (as I recall soft lifespan is 8 laps on 25%). Then, come the start of the race, where I choose the tyre strategy, it says pit lap 1-2, which I found strange, so I tried to change the tyre but I was not allowed to. When I started the race the tyres were 55% used! Please help!
Thanks in advance

You have to start the race on the tyres that you qualified with. You were required to start the race on those Soft tyres that you used to set your fastest lap in Qualifying.

That tyre set was used a lot in Qualifying which is why the tyre wear percentage was high and the pit schedule was early.

I'm thinking the tyre wear per lap for a short distance race is also high in qualifying, so you'd need to try to only set one good lap on your tyre set and then stop using those tyres. If you want to go out to try to improve your lap time, change to a different tyre set and try to set a good lap on that set. You don't want your starting tyres to be so worn out.
