A lot of questions.... Here are the answers

Recommended Posts

We’ve had a mountain of questions from you all so far and it’s been awesome watching everybody dissect the trailers and screenshots. We love reading your tweets, Facebook comments and forum posts so here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions so far.

Why are you not making a next gen F1 game?

We are making a next gen game! And most importantly we’re writing a brand new engine to go with it. The entire game experience is being re-engineered from the ground up and that’s why it wasn’t possible to release this year. Rest assured though, in addition to improvements in the physics, AI, and graphics, the game will launch much earlier in the Formula One season, and will then go onto receive a number of digital updates throughout the year!  Read more about it here…

Where is the red stripe on the Williams Martini Racing car?

Well… this was quite the topic of conversation yesterday on Twitter between a lot of fans and those who work in the sport. So here’s the thing…we would have loved to have featured the full race livery and we worked very hard with all of our partners & sign off parties to come up with a solution. Unfortunately due to circumstances outside of our control we’ve had to use a modified livery for the game, just like Williams Martini Racing have to when competing in countries that prohibit the advertising of alcohol. We’re continuing to explore ways to address this in future releases.

Will the Classic Content return from F1 2013?

Last year we featured classic content as the sport itself hadn’t changed a great deal and we wanted to offer a different experience alongside the main 2013 content. However, seeing as 2014 has seen masses of changes to the sport itself, which is providing a different F1 experience for this year’s game and the fact that we are also working on a new generation F1 game, we’ve had to take a break from classic content this year. Don’t despair though, classic content is something we’re still very interested in and will explore again later in the series.

Will there be a new PC version when the next gen versions come out?

Yup, F1 2014 will be on PC, Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 all built in the same engine. The next gen version will be built on an all-new engine (we’d don’t to ports) and available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and of course PC.

When can we see new-gen F1 in action?

You’ll be hearing (and seeing!) a lot more about our new-gen F1 project once F1 2014 launches this October. We know you’re excited, and so are we, but we’re not ready to show off the game just yet.

What new features were you referring to during yesterday’s announcement?

Here’s some more info on some of the features we talked about during announcement.

  • REFINED CAREER MODE Play through a full Formula One season or choose from shorter seasons, including 7 race and 12 race options.
  • EXPANDED SCENARIO MODE The expanded Scenario mode features a range of different scenarios based on real-world challenges and moments from recent history.
  • REFINED HANDLING The enhanced game physics combined with refined handling via gamepads delivers a more authentic and accessible driving experience for all players.
  • DRIVER EVALUATION SYSTEM Replacing the Young Driver Test in-game is a new driver evaluation system. You’ll be launched right into a one lap race after loading F1 2014 for the first time. After completing the race the game then suggests an appropriate difficulty level dependant on your performance. To encourage the widest range of players to enjoy F1 2014, difficulty levels have been adjusted for periodic progression. Very Easy difficulty level is the most approachable yet for newcomers to the series, whilst the game’s hardest setting, with all of the driving aids switched off, will simulate the technical challenges facing F1 drivers of today.
  • TURBO-CHARGED FORMULA ONE The introduction of turbochargers to the cars this year has increased both overtaking opportunities and the demands placed on drivers, as huge amounts of torque are unleashed under acceleration from these entirely new power units. The turbochargers require greater throttle control than before and, with last year’s high-pitched engine sounds replaced with a deeper growl, F1 2014 players will experience the dramatic effect in handling the world’s most advanced racing cars.
  • ERS DEBUTS Following on from the success of KERS, ERS – Electronic Recovery System – makes a dramatic debut in F1 2014 with 10 times the capacity of last season’s KERS system, ERS now generates an extra 160bhp for around 33 seconds which is delivered to drivers instantly, opening up more overtaking opportunities.

Can my PC run the game?

Let’s find out… Here are the minimum specs:

  • OS: Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4Ghz or AMD Athlon X2 5400+
  • Graphics: AMD HD2600 or NVIDIA Geforce 8600
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Hard Drive: 15 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible soundcard
  • Additional Notes: Supported Graphics Cards:

And here’s the recommended:

Good, just remember to include  :

All 3 Practice sessions, Formation Lap, being able to drive into Parc Ferme after qualifying, victory lap with donuts, Podium Celebrations, Interviews, more dialog during races like in Autosport, Classic Cars and improve the Williams Martini livery to the one used in non-alcoholic races.

That way fans will be ecstatic about the new-gen game :)

I'm assuming that post was sarcastic?

1) Is F1 2014 going to be available in physical disc format in all regions?

2) Are all race distances & all qualifying lengths going to be available in career mode?

3) Can we use custom setups in OSQ?

4) Can we setup custom championships with our favorite cars offline/online?

5) Is there any chance more tracks from previous CM F1 games could be added later through DLC? The 4 extra tracks were one of the best things in F1 2013 imo, to me more tracks add more replay value to the game than classic cars. I'd love to have all tracks from all CM F1 games available in 1 single game.

When will you show us more materials about F1 2014, for example video with new engine sound? Please don't answer "soon" :P

Since, I compete in PRL league,  I would like Codemasters to consider adding to F1 2014 few items to the Multiplayer game that are very important for our leagues.

1)  Allow the Host to re-invite players who have lost connection during Qualy so, those players can race starting from last position.

2) Allow the Host to change the grid at will before the race.

3) A Multiplayer practice session or, adding the option to select tyre and fuel load to the Time Trial.

4) Allow players to load a custom setup for One-Shot-Qualy.

Because of next gen F1's early release, does that mean every game in the coming years will be released earlier

i have a theory about this,, @hatta is quite clear that the game is not called "F1 2015" so maybe just maybe it will be a game that progresses with seasons using patches and updates with the option to buy the next years game which could update huds, opening animations maybe even extras like classic content. dont think we will get many details intil f1 2014 is launched though so its all speculation.

It's certainly the plan. Our entry into next-gen is the perfect time to switch our launch pattern to an earlier release.

@Hatta What's it like using ERS? 33 seconds is a huuuuge proportion of a lap. Is it easy to forget to use it all? I often forgot about using all of my KERS, and that only lastest 6/7 seconds!

ERS doesn't work like KERS. You don't have to push any buttons for it  to work. I's almost like a second engine. (At least that's the way I understand it.)

Would you make more money releasing hard copy games or by calling next gen F1 'F1' and just releasing DLC you have to pay for? Could we perhaps just DLC 2016 season updates etc or is that too hard?

@alonsofan46 yes the ers is pre programmed and works automatically although im sure the driver can still override it and use it as needed for example if defending down a long straight and they also have an overtake button to use max power until its released. thats the way i understand it anyways

Well I know that you don't need a button , but I'm not sure if it's like a second engine.

no its an electric charge stored in a battery thats sent to the engine to increase power, it harvests from the engine braking and the turbo i think. im not 100% sure thats correct but thats how i understand it

@Hatta‌

Are Codemasters looking to implement a FOM HUD and/or present the game like an FOM broadcast much in the same way MotoGP and FIFA do? Personally I feel it would be a much more authentic experience if this was done.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your response at your earliest convenience.
