F1 2017 - Players as stewards?

Recommended Posts

This would be helpful mainly for racing leagues, and the idea is to allow a player to join the lobby as the race steward and then they can hand out warnings, penalties etc. instead of the game. Do you think this would be a good addition for F1 2017?

As the sole dissent, I'd like to say that this adds a conflict of interest issue if a friend is in the race and the steward will naturally gravitate towards leniency for said person, or even needlessly penalizing other drivers to give an advantage.

That being said, a solution to my own concern would be completely anonymizing the cars (black liveries and give them random names) but this can still be worked around by a player saying "Hey, I'm the driver in 2nd. Give the 1st guy a drive through". Maybe if there were steward boards (3 people min) that could work to come to a consensus. Either way, it would result in a far too great variety and inconsistency. Not to mention trolls who might try giving everyone black flags and sit there and laugh.

Plus the online atmosphere may become quite salty as people will begin blaming the other player stewards rather than the computer if they feel they were treated unfairly. So brilliant idea, but it's going to be quite difficult to iron out inconsistencies to make it feasible.

@Demonr - it was that forum that gave me the idea, but they were discussing having a slot where people could spectate to decide penalties for leagues (they might demote the driver a few places after the race for example). However, my idea was to have a spectator who literally awards the penalties in game, no need to add them after, so basically a replacement for the in-game penalty system. I thought this would probably be more favourable for people running a league.

considering im an admin of a league i can honestly say it would not help, making a decision on the fly can result in the wrong decision, it also requires in game replays of any driver at any time and thats not possible, so if you are not riding on board at the time of the incident you cant make a call, or you would only have one drivers view of it, as most leagues should do, having there drivers record there own races and then provide there footage for viewing of incidents works much better and also means incorrect in game penalties can be overturned.

i have also been asked would i like to have control of when a safety car or vsc comes out, again the answer to that was no, as someone else mentioned, if you make a decision wrong  you can easily end up in a situation of why did i get that penalty and they didnt or one driver asking why was that a safety car it made me lose my 30 second lead but that other crash wasnt a safety car, it causes problems that are not worth the agro, again not being able to go back and see what happened also is a problem, anyone who has done a lot of spectate mode with safety car on will know it comes out a lot and you have no idea why so how could you call for one when you cant find out what happened.

@Demonr - I totally appreciate your view, and i agree that it wouldn't work for your league. My only thought was that it may have been better for some people, for example they may wish to have it more realistic, where you have a race director who can give out penalties during the race. Of course, there is already the in game penalty system, but many agree that this is not always very accurate at making decisions.

Also, my thoughts were that this could be added to F1 2017, with my hope being that the replay feature will be better, possibly allowing the 'Race Director' to watch replays for up to 1 or 2 laps ago, so they have time to make a decision.

Do you mean like Air Traffic Controllers on a flight simulator ?? Or just that they can be assigned as spectators while still having 22 cars racing? Because if it's the first idea I am a big fan, live decisions and imagine live engineers (real players) That would be cool!

@Reub09 - I was talking about your first idea, having a player in control of the race decisions, just like having a real life race director, i feel that this would allow for it to be so much more realistic.

Yes, but limited. Would be great if say you could nominate 2 people (in AOR's case, the coordinators of that tier) to do it.

Personally I'd love to be able to use the online championship feature and be able to assign post races penalties and even grid penalties, its a great feature with a lot of potential, and could be taken to incredible heights with what I mentioned and saveable replays like Project CARS

Waste of time. Why waste time introducing something like this into the game when other aspects need fixed. As always though Codemasters ain't going to do anything. You will have a better chance getting blood out of a stone then Codemasters bringing out any more patches or even give us any feedback what so ever.
