Open world like that isn't going to happen any time soon, but it would be cool to have the end part (where you drive to the marshal after the finish) extended 2 or 3 times and maybe have something like a kilometer of road before the stage so you have to drive up to the stage and line your car up yourself.
One of the last things I would like in a game... when you are more as a casual driver you very very soon get bored by these things. I think Dirt Rally is the best game I've seen in this aspect. Even Dirt4 was startihg to get boring with that "drive to the marchall" before I removed that piece of crap.

I was thinking the other day whilst co driving in the woodpecker stages rally how cool an open world rally game would be. Small road sections to take you from one stage to another, you have a time limit to get there and have to clock in to the time control at the right minute. It would never happen, but it would be pretty fun!
The thing is, why would they want to model roads for the road sections when they could model other actual stages? I mean, it would be very cool for actual rally nuts (I think), but in the grand scheme of game development it would be time better spent in actual stages, in my opinion
It was only a crazy idea I had, I wouldn’t even want it myself, it was just a thought as I was going through a road section myself in real life!

Why tcan't I write c r a p?

Body is 14 characters blabla
Blasphemy! Get that shit out of here!

I would rather see the classic Manx rally stages rather than the very fast tt track not really suited for rallycars.

So many iconic corner/places like Castletown at 1:35 for example.
Maybe the TT track would be more interesting with more powerful cars with downforce like the hillclimb ones.

Talking of it, the Isle of man rally has been canceled this year. And a lot of ford escort driver from there will instead be in Belgium for a very special event the same week end.

Dig out the classic Mobil 1 Rally Championship on PC, that has Manx stages :-)

I was in Barum for the first time last year, enjoyed it very much. Up there with Ypres and Valais for my preferred tarmac locations.

So I bought DiRT Rally and DiRT 4 in the Playstation Store discount yesterday. Already have the games on Steam as well, but my laptop is not strong enough to show the beauty of the games. Had a first try on a Monte Carlo Stage and also with a normal PS controler with the R4 Subi.

Two weeks ago I also bough WRC 7, but i can't get comfortable with playing that game. DR and D4 full so much better, realistic and comfortable. WRC 7 feels okish on gravel, but somehow the controls feels like driving a boat and the camera in WRC 7 are strange (I use ussually swingman camera when I use controller. With wheel I use cockpit).

WRC7 handles completely fine with a controller and the stage design is the best out there (Mittelmosel <3 ) on any rally game this generation (Codies, take note and learn)! I have put the steering sensitivity down to 15 or 20 and it gives a very nice control over the cars.  I find it comparable with the older WRC titles of Evolution Studios.

The sounds, by far not as good as Dirt's but still very acceptable. There are a lot of details all around. Something which DIRT is sometimes lacking. Graphically DIRT has the edge as well but the lighting effects are much better in WRC7.

- For me the controller handlings are far from fine in WRC7. Sometimes the car reacts differently while I am doing the same input, especially on asphalt. Sometimes the steerings does what I want, but other times the steering does completly something different and reacts extreme or not at all.
- Putting the steerings sensitivity lower indeed makes the car better to control.
- When you hit something in in WRC 7 you somehow strangely send into a strange direction.
- It indeed feels a bit similar to the PS2 WRC titles.
- Engine sounds indeed sound worse. But some sound effect are ok, like the braking and some other things.
- Some details are intersting like the extreme glowing brakes which have a nice effect in the dark and the car bottoming out on the asphalt.
- About the details I am not sure WRC7 have more details. Maybe some different details compared to DiRT.
- Graphically DiRT is better yes. About the lightning I am not sure WRC7 is better. I think maybe it is just a difference in color pattern they use. Especially DiRT 1 and 2 were very yellow/orange/brown which was bad. In DiRT 3 and Showdown this depended on the location, but from DR and D4 I think the color pattern is nice. And with the improved graphics in F1 2018, I think the new DiRT will also will be a step better again. :)

Overal the mistakes that happen in WRC7, it feels they are not my fault, but the fail of the game. in DiRT if I make a mistake, in actually most cases they are because of me.

I like the color pattern as they had on the Monaco stages, that one looks crisp. I hope that for the next Dirt title they keep a but more fresh / realistic colors. F1 2018 looks stunning I must say and one must think that the new Dirt must be able to outdo that title due to its one car on track style.

Certainly look forward to it!

About the handling, I can't relate to the first issue you mentioned. I get exactly what I want from the car in WRC7 so I am not sure what is happening there. Probably a difference in feel we both experience and what we are comfortable with maybe.

Luckily we have some decent choices :)

WRC7 just takes more effort to get right. when you get it right its very good. the problem with todays mentality with most things if it requires effort its broke or not worth doing. WRC7 is a very good rally game if you put the effort in to get it right. far better than dirt 4 but not as good as dirt rally.

Wow, I just watched a few of the videos too, how on earth have they taken a game that far backwards since WRC7?

The sounds were pretty poor in WRC7 and the pacenotes were awful compared to the last couple of DiRT game ones (DR being the high), but somehow they've made them worse here.

Stage design doesn't seem 100% awful, but nowhere near the highs of the last game (I'd argue DR's were much better, but not as numerous) - there are rally cars on a beach, caves and plenty of gimmicky rubbish and many repeated sections; I'd be surprised if there is 80km of unique stage in VR4.

Thought with WRC7 they were finally on the right path and felt promising, but it's like back to square one. In many ways, it feels like the sequels to DR (D4), WRC7 (VR4) and SLRE (Gravel) are all backward steps compared to their predecessors.

Come on Codies, please buck this trend next year!

its not a WRC game though its more of a arcade game so they dont need to be so sim like when its a arcade title. they need to be different titles. doesnt mean they have to be bad though and v rally looks poop. sad as have fond memories of the early games.
