DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

Poland looks fantastic but I am concerned about the tarmac after seeing that Porsche. Also the carlist has been extremely underwelming so far. I know we all like our classics but this seems a copy of Dirt4. Really hope some more rarer cars are brought in next to the ones we have driven a 1000 times already.

Those last shots shown in the stream, are these from photomode?

Porsche looks quite twitchy and all over the place yeah. Softer tires and some smoother driving might make it look different.

I'm more and more hoping the DLC 'Seasons' will include at least one of the DR1 locations each. Maybe 1x RX, 1x new rally, 1x DR1 rally updated. TBH, I'd much prefer 2x updated DR1 and 1x RX than 2x RX...

Looking forward to watching the rest of the stream back shortly and listening to the Porsche.

Nice to see the rough ruts in Rally Poland, I wonder what was the level of deformation that Jon played on.

That crash in ~24:00 xD

It's normal... I think it's going too fast. EDIT: Which car is the white? Is FWD?

Definitely! Jon wasn't 100% happy with his wheel set-up and found it quite twitchy, but as we were live he soldiered on like a hero. Softer tyres and a bit of tweaking will make all the difference - we should have a full run to show you with optimal conditions in the New Year!

Poland looks fantastic, can't wait to have a crack at that!

Silverstone is a boring rallycross track (in my personal opinion) but that isn't CM's fault! Looks like a faithful recreation and, despite my feelings on some of the tracks, I can't wait to try them all out.

Thanks for the stream. How more I see from the game, how more I would like to get my hands on it
Good to hear some answers on our questions.
Track degradation looks and sounds good.
Physics/Handling looks a very good step forward.
All three locations seems to look good. Poland seems a good challenge.

About RX, seems like names and cars still not corresponfing with the actual cars racing.
AI in RX can use some improvement though it seems with the lines, strange braking and the Audi (5. Ekstrom) left the door wide open.

@ChristinaMc thanks for that Christina. I can say though that I won't be purchasing on Day one and that is due D4 and the footage I've seen so far. I am simply too afraid to be disappointed and I'll probably wait until all DLC is released and I actually know what I am getting.

Only if you manage to pull it off to get many models of PSA in there, including the rare ones, I'll jump in blind but I don't get my hopes up ;)

Porsche, and the other two you make are? Sorry.
I don't care for Porsche. I meant Peugeot, Citroën and DS or called Groupe PSA ;)

No. I mean that brand of cars are those of the video... I'm sorry about the confusion. I can't identify the marks. The tires of the Porsche are small... It is assumed that they are of asphalt and therefore have little profile.

Nice to hear more about track degradation. It's progressive as opposed to 3 fixed wear modes which is an awesome confirmation.
God that Porsche looks a right handful. Nice variety with the scenery in Spain too. Phil mills is sounding amazing on that Spanish stage too. Poland looks real tasty, Looking forward to getting in there with an R5. Career mode seems more interesting with damage between events being taken into account with mechanical wear and tear! Very happy about that.

Just watched it again: a 3.4L Impreza? That should be quick!

EDIT: That Quattro engine displacement is wrong as well.
I pointed that out on Twitter immediately after watching the video but after further investigation I found out that FIA actually multiplied the engine displacement of turbocharged A8 cars by 1.7 for reasons I don't know of.

Take a look at this:
https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/regulation/file/05_BRIDE_GroupeA-22-11-2010.pdf

This is also worth reading:

""To determine the cubic capacity of forced
induction cars a multiplication factor of 1.7 will
be used for Petrol and 1.5 for Diesel. Cars up to
2050cc running Forced Induction in modified
classes will have their “cc” determined by a
multiplication factor of 1.7 for Petrol and 1.5 for
Diesel and will run in the appropriate cc 16v
class, engines 2051cc to 2500cc (See notes on
engines)."

@ChristinaMc Could you please post a screenshot of the Porsche with the DiRT Rally 2.0 livery from the back?  Was waiting for this stream to see the back of the Porsche, but you never showed it. I just wanted to know, how close I guessed it here :D

Why does everything look so "cartoonish" in this trailer ?
Over saturated colors and tons of lens flare, it doesn't look natural at all.
Where is the clean and natural look of Dirt rally 1, where you could recognize locations just by the ambiant lighting ?
Physics doesn't seem very natural at first glance either.
Hopefully all of that is just for the trailer ...
I disagree about DR1 being “clean and natural”. It wasn’t, unless you pretend the weather was always cloudy – for supposedly sunny weather it was just under-saturated. The real world does not look like that; it’s actually quite colourful, especially in early morning and late afternoon.

@ChristinaMc  Nice sound on the Peugeot 208 T16. Seems updated. Also, have you guys fixed the oversized rear wing on that car?

Greece and Wales were quite right in DR, but not much color to expect from grass lands and dark pine forests.
Finland also was right yet very colorful.
But I agree that Germany and Monte-Carlo were looking a bit toned down.

That's weird, I always thought Germany looked like peak summer regardless, and Monte captured cold January temperatures well. There's a good mod for Assetto Corsa which has different lighting depending on the temperature setting.

(3 mins 50 secs in, if it doesn't embed the timestamp)

Also, just because it amuses me - the Alpine being used to represent '60s' in the trailer is the model which appeared in 1970 (I actually think it's modelled on a later version).

If that is updated, it is really bad, nowhere close to a 208 R5

Few notes from watching the stream in full.
  • Surface degradation… sounds coooool
  • Career sounds good, hoping it’s more stripped back like DR1 - hope the ‘custom’ championships are back too - curious to know if there will be multi class events?
  • Both stages look magnificent. I was all for improving Your Stage originally, but I'm not really glad you haven't.
  • The Polish one appears to be the earlier running, so 2016 layout. Regarding the chicanes on entry to the village, I hope these are on the other side of town on the reverse version. Well, actually, I hope there are variants with chicanes in different places, but that seems less likely...
  • The Spanish one, I’m not sure where that’s starting - I’m guessing that’s one of the ‘long’ stages in Spain but I'm surprised it doesn't start on the other side of the valley; this was like the middle two thirds of the 26km configuration of the stage.
  • Still waiting for official ‘number of actual stages/kms’ to say “2 long stages per location” though.
  • Did seem a bit ‘bouncy’ when he went off and hit the tree in the 208. Will accept that damage is off for now.
  • Ooh, snowy location hint in the chat. And DR1 locations. Hello Sweden... I would have been happy with the US being snow, just as happy with it being gravel and taking the time to get snow right.
  • I do hope Germany or a tarmac location with a few more tight corners and junctions gets added in DLC.
  • Hope the 208 T16 sound gets redone at some point, that did not sound anything like the real one.
  • Phil Mills is such a good co-driver, he sounds so calm in all situations. I miss Paul!
  • I’m also looking forward to any future R5 surprises… Although fearing the Hyundai may be amiss if the Skoda winks are anything to go by.
  • Having played some RBR last year, must say what a big difference properly modelled cockpits make to immersion.
  • AI speed looked promising, especially in Poland.
  • Nice to see there will be other Porsche liveries!
  • The Renault 5, hmm, I'm assuming we have the same H3 RWD class in game. I sort of hope they find a way to split the early 80s and late 80s cars though.
  • Put the Stratos back in H2 Codies. You know it's the right thing to do.
  • If you can record any more Porsche footage on soft tyres, that would be ace.
  • Finally, hope all Codemasters staff have a great break - you've got a busy year ahead!

The dust in rallycross looks so unrealistic. Also the colors/shades look alot like dirt4 and not like the much better ones in dirt rally. Alnd the handling of the cars don't seem to be the hardcore of dirt rally. For now it doesn't look sim but more simcade. Sorry, not impressed with what I see.
