As the most likely appearing car types and makes seems to be pretty clear; why not focussing the gossip on the remainder of the "at least two cars"

"At least two" cars from 2001 is pretty awesome to read! So great to see the biggest void (in my personal opinion) from the DiRT 3 car list being filled.

So potentially, that means two (or more) of the following: 

Ford Focus RS WRC
Hyundai Accent WRC
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo WRC
Peugeot 206 WRC
Seat Cordoba WRC
Skoda Octavia WRC
Subaru Impreza S7 WRC

Really hoping for the Focus RS WRC 2001 althrough the I prefere the 2002 livery !
Would be amazing if it will be the Subaru Impreza S7 WRC From Burns,

Small notification, Burns Won in 2001 the WRC while McRae was the runner up that year! 2 British legends!

But with the amount of Peugeot in the game, i do feel some where that we are gona get a Gronholm 206 WRC ( what is also really cool) ,... all the cars from the 2001 WRC championship are just amazing xD

The Focus, the 206 and the Impreza. For me, those are the 2001 cars we should get. They have the higher chances based on success on competition and manufacturer presence currently in game.

Nice to hear about (at least) we'll have two earlies 2000's cars. I would prefer more Group A cars, but it's a good choice too.

there was or is a issue with the renault or it would of been in probably by now.

it was in a dev patch early on i drove renault 5 but it was parched to a different build,

would love some earlier scoobies. had them since 1980s ;D we had 8 in total. last was a rbr320.

I'm really happy about the upcoming cars. and other stuff . Anyway, I feel very sorry that there are licensing problems in DR with a car brand, that had such an impressive impact in the history of World Rallying: TOYOTA.

Dont know if the licensing issue has been discussed more in detail about Toyota here, but if not pls @KickUp  could you at least mention a few words about this, we had Toyota in many CMR Rally Titles and even in Dirt 3 still. So it's quite hard to understand, why a brand should suddenly be so reluctant to refuse licensing on this ultimate rally Sim. Would appreciate any more detail here.

Licensing isn't always about a company not wanting to be in the games.  

Money is part of it too, they could want more that the budget allows for.  Companies may want more control than the Devs want to give up (ie unrealistic handling).  

This could be the reasons why we see other Devs get them in the game, besides deep pockets, games like NFS And Forza titles don't really "give up" much for difficult handling cars.  They mostly have generic handling anyhow and a manufacturer will see them as more of a TV ad, especially with their showroom intros and so on.

Spot on, the current cars are by no means easy to drive and they are doing so at even more insane speeds than Group B (and getting quicker). Ogier might make it look easy, just as Loeb did, but that doesn't mean he deserves any less respect (for his driving) than any of his more revered predecessors IMO.

What I meant by the electronic assists is that the mechanical components have transformed into electronic which means that the car helps the driver to maneuver it easily at high speeds. You know safety is keenly considerable these days unlike the golden days.
