Kind of, but the Porsche/EA example is a unique scenario. There's no other car licensing agreement even remotely like it.
Which is exactly why it's one of the best examples. It shows that when it comes to licensing, only your imagination and depth of the wallet matters.
Actually imagination and depth of wallet don't always work out.

I can't give details but even EA can't throw money at some manufacturers to make their imagination come to fruition.
Well, of course they don't always work out if someone goes way over the board. Both parties need to agree on the terms, but what the terms are is down to imagination still ;) And the wallet of course.

I can only imagine that even Porsche was reluctant on that deal with EA. Still wonder why some manufacturers are so against licensing *cough*Honda*cough*.
Of course Porsche weren't reluctant on that deal with EA; they signed it thinking it was in their interest. No doubt they realised their mistake later and will be glad to get out of it when they do, but it would have made sense at the time. To be honest, I doubt either party has benefitted greatly from it (surprised EA hasn't subcontracted it to more people in the last few years to be honest).

Agree that I don't understand the reluctance if most to deal with video game licencing; I often feel like several manufaxturers are well behind the times in not embracing it more.

I think we will see the 2015s class, the Hill Climb Modern Unlimited class and a more fleshed out 2010s class for Modern Masters. These classes can be found on the famed periodic table.

2015s:
Citroen DS3 WRC
 - It's on the periodic table
 - They already were able to get a DS3 into the game
Ford Fiesta RS WRC
 - On the periodic table this car is supposed to be in the 2015s class instead of the 2010s class as it is now, I think they'll reclassify it as 2015s
Volkswagen Polo WRC
 - It's on the periodic table
 - They already were able to get a Polo into the game
Hyundai i20
 - It's on the periodic table

2010s:
Ford Focus RS WRC
 - It's on the periodic table
 - Have many Fords in the game, they seem to have a good relationship with Ford
 - A nice Ford to replace the Ford <:
 - It was in DiRT 3
Citroen C4
 - It's on the periodic table
 - They have been able to get a Citroen into the game before
 - It was in DiRT 3

Hill Climb Modern Unlimited:
Ford Fiesta OMSE
 - It's on the periodic table
 - Good relationship with Ford
 - It was in DiRT 3
Ford RS200
 - It's on the periodic table
 - Good relationship with Ford
 - Already been able to get a RS200 into the game
Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak
 - It's on the periodic table
 - Already many Peugeots into the game
Hyundai PM580
 - It's on the periodic table
 - If we see an i20 we'll more likely see this one too. It's probably both or none.
Suzuki SX4
 - It's on the periodic table

Just won a G27 on eBay which has a Team ARC mod, and Nixim brake mod, should be back on DiRT this week, although will take me a while to get used to this special wheel I think.

Or maybe you will make "alien" times and will break the servers!

Honda (and Acura) have big presences in Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport, as well as games like Need For Speed, so they aren't particularly adverse to licensing. Heck, they are in GRID Autosport as well.

Most companies seem pretty keen on it. I believe it's the circumstances that have changed more than anything else.
15 years ago, video games were a great way for the car makers to reach a new audience.
Mitsubishi have publicly stated that Gran Turismo played a significant part in their decision to bring the Lancer Evo to the US.
Now though, it's not so much about reaching a new audience. It's a competitive environment and as car lists in games have grown, it's they which need the car makers more than the other way around.
In the past, games could just make up cars or use stand-ins.
That doesn't really fly any more. Unless you're making a kart racer or a really bad mobile game, you NEED licensed cars.
So licenses are considered more valuable then they used be.
Games are now much more expensive to make, a result of the resources required for the HD era. That's only going to get worse with 4K.
Combine that with many companies considering their IP valuable and a good way to make money, it's not always going to work out even if both parties are keen.
There can, and will, always be other potential factors involved. There will always be a few extreme exceptions..
As a very general rule, things might just be more complicated and expensive then they used to be.

Metal Gear Solid 5 is the first MGS game that doesn't feature real guns or vehicles to try and control its budget.
All the licensed music was apparently considered more important. =P
It's why the FIM-92 Stinger missile has become the "Honey Bee"
Good job it wasn't that way in the original. Wouldn't quite be the same if a dying Gray Fox rasped out "Snake! Fire the Honey Bee!"

As for EA sub-licensing Porsche, I don't think they've done that since 2011 and the Forza 4 expansion pack. They seem to be reverting back to keeping it to themselves in order to give the license more value with their absence from Forza 5 and 6, despite Turn 10 constantly poking them about it.

That would be nice, but I don't think I can beat @Porkhammer and that Simulant guy seems very quick too!

Best value for money. Not best tech, not best wheel by far... but, for a first wheel is very nice.

I know this isn't gossip, but this thread gets a lot of views so it'll help.

Could you guys tell me if the picture quality of this video looks good (watch in 1080) and also what device you're watching it in. Thanks.

I don't think it is likely we'll see all of those either, just looking at probability using the periodic table we have seen and that happen to contain all the cars that the game currently has and the theme of this Modern Masters update.

Hillclimb is cool with me, I like doing Pikes Peak every now and then. I wouldn't mind if they'd add new hillclimb locations at all... Less enthusiastic about RX though.

Better than your recent Escort vids on YT, watching on PC 1200p, it's still somewhat lower res than normal and/or 'softer' somehow.

Clip from SS1 of it here: https://youtu.be/ZWp-4IAt6-o

Always feel it needs a bit more in the way of aero when I see it.

@cmsoundfx @soundfx

I'm hearing some CHIRPING from those fords!

Speaking of Fords:  One thing that I sticks out I'm my mind seeing Ken Blocks here in the US is the deep growl the engine has.  It seems the videos have some of that as well.  Not sure if this is even capable of doing in game, but just wanted to bring it up (and cause trouble :open_mouth:)

Oh crap!  "The deathstar of Logitech wheels" in the hands of a Jedi (so what does that make you, VADER?)

Nice find though, envy much

DiRT Rally has got plenty of Peugeots.

Group B 205 Evo 2
205 Pikes Peak
405 Pikes Peak
306 Kit Car
208 WRX

They are the joint-second most numerous make in the game.
Equal with Lancia ( @KickUp made sure we got plenty of those!), but after Ford.

As for Pikes Peak, I think it will be a lot better with the all-gravel version of the course.
The Hill Climb cars in the game were all designed for that, rather than tarmac. They are really nice on the gravel sections, there just aren't enough of them!

Looks good, but as @gfRally says, the blacks look a bit faded. Watched on 32" Samsung hd tv @1080p

God damn the movements are seriously overkill. I would never want to have it like that.

Alright, thanks chap! I might manage to get one because I'm on budget and I need a decent wheel to begin my rallying journey with or whatsoever game that is FFB compatible.
