console reviews are starting to flood in now with 7 days to release. Doing well on PS4 with a score og 86 from 11 critics, so far one of the highest rated ps4 games, level with fallout

Interesting to see the press reaction thus far to the console release. I hope what is perceived to be a less mainstream game continues to receive such high praise.

I see that the advance code competition is closed, so I now have my fingers (and other limbs) crossed...

I hope they weren't crossed too hard so you're able to use them on that early access code of yours ;)

Well, I heard Ben put in Mexico and a RS1800, so you should be pretty pumped for that. :D I'm also going to take more credit than I probably should for getting you that PS4 code!

Well folks, if my calculations are correct, it's just one week until the consolers get the joy of Dirt Rally and those of us left on PC get new cars, bug fixes, tweaks etc. :sunglasses:

Seems appropriate to leave this here, anyone planning on skins for the two new rally cars?

Well massive thanks to you and everyone who put in a word for me: I am very grateful to you all!

I unpacked the PS4 and began downloading as soon as I got in from work last night (obviously!). It's a pretty chunky file (just under 43 GB in total) so I started it off, then popped out for an hour. Came back to find the progress bar was, surprisingly, over half full. 30 minutes later and it said it was ready so, full of excitement (far more than any adult should have for a game) I fired it up, entered my name, tweaked the options and got ready for some rallycross...

...however it turned out the PS4 was lying! It seems the game is "ready" once it has reached approximately 15%. At that stage you can open the game, set all the options and the like, but the bulk of the content is still downloading. Still it wasn't all bad, as you can play two "preview" rally events at that point, one in a Mini Cooper, the other in a Mk.II Escort.

Decided to start easy, so I went with the Mini: glad I did, as even with the Mini I was initially struggling! Managed to inadvertently get my first trophy after about 10 corners (I barrel rolled!), but after a few stages it started to click and soon after I claimed my first fastest sector time: hurrah!

Read the PS4 manual and discovered you can enable downloading while in "rest" mode, so I left it resting overnight. As of this morning it had downloaded about 20GB, so I'm hoping it might be all done by this evening.

@tbtstt Finally :)  It's a bit of a shame we won't now be able to remind you of what you've been missing out on :)

I wish I had a PS4 to show you how it's done around Lydden Hill or Holjes

I'm really keen to the PC steelbook edition so I went to Sainsburys to pre-order it, but in two stores they didn't have it available for pre-order at all, any edition... Anyone had luck with getting it ordered?

Glad you've finally got a taste of it again!
Well last night was a good warm up, hopefully the full game awaits me this evening!

I think you should consider yourself lucky you haven't got a PS4: you'd look awfully silly when the newbie kicks your ass around Lydden.  ;)

In the absence of a Reviews thread, here's a review: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-03-30-dirt-rally-review

Usually I enjoy reading the Eurogamer reviews, but this one is rather poorly written and doesn't really mentioned the main strenghts and weaknessess of the game.. I do like it that they've given in a 'Recommended' grade, but the review itself could have been much better.

Martin Robertson's review of DiRT Rally on PC is much better: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-12-14-dirt-rally-review

Well, I'm the 'console crowd' and I've been here since the first page, as is @tbtstt

A lot of mistakes in this review, I take it they have no quality assurance policy.

-   Consistant mixing up of: stages, legs, races, courses. “By the time you start the final race in a stage,”   - What??

-    “…the combined time ‘cost’ of those repairs cannot exceed 30 seconds…”  -  That’s a ninja mechanic.

-    “Jamsa in Finland’s snowy funnels”  -  Erm… does Finland have snow now?!

-    “…tarmac hill-climbs in soggy Wales,”  -   I think someone googled the wrong pikes peak…

That's the most irritating thing about the new consoles. I know you got a digital download, but if you buy a physical disc you HAVE to install all 50+ GB of content, and you only get enough HDD space for 10 games at that point. It's like buying a physical copy for PC and it's just a steam code, the CD doesn't have the content. :|

No content on the DVD for PC games?  I didn't know, i also can't tell you the last game i physically bought or when!

I do know that around the time i stopped buying them, that day 1 patches were almost guaranteed anyway.

Ah, I didn't know that! So even physical copies have to be fully downloaded? My first disc game (MGS5) should arrive this week, so I was expecting to pop that in and play it straight away!*

(*if I can tear myself away from Dirt that is)

A new genre has born, Rally Jungle!

---

Are there really PC physical copies without actual installation disc in it? I've recently bought one game and it had but the day one patch was almost the size of the game itself.

PC version of MGS5. Quite literally there's just a CD-key and steam installer (on a disc), nothing more.

Yeah, but if it is the same as Xbox, it's a lot quicker as it's an install rather than a download, and you can play the content as it installs, similar to downloads

@kevm you're on Xbox one right? Mind if I as you?
