Could someone inform me of the exact release date of the PC update on Steam, please? Is it the 4th or the 5th of April?

Install complete.

First custom event completed: full rallycross event, Lydden Hill, driving Solberg's DS3.

Time for a quick clean up then I'm off to Wales in a Group A Impreza.

console reviews are starting to flood in now with 7 days to release. Doing well on PS4 with a score og 86 from 11 critics, so far one of the highest rated ps4 games, level with fallout

Interesting to see the press reaction thus far to the console release. I hope what is perceived to be a less mainstream game continues to receive such high praise.

I see that the advance code competition is closed, so I now have my fingers (and other limbs) crossed...

Well, I heard Ben put in Mexico and a RS1800, so you should be pretty pumped for that. :D I'm also going to take more credit than I probably should for getting you that PS4 code!
Well massive thanks to you and everyone who put in a word for me: I am very grateful to you all!

I unpacked the PS4 and began downloading as soon as I got in from work last night (obviously!). It's a pretty chunky file (just under 43 GB in total) so I started it off, then popped out for an hour. Came back to find the progress bar was, surprisingly, over half full. 30 minutes later and it said it was ready so, full of excitement (far more than any adult should have for a game) I fired it up, entered my name, tweaked the options and got ready for some rallycross...

...however it turned out the PS4 was lying! It seems the game is "ready" once it has reached approximately 15%. At that stage you can open the game, set all the options and the like, but the bulk of the content is still downloading. Still it wasn't all bad, as you can play two "preview" rally events at that point, one in a Mini Cooper, the other in a Mk.II Escort.

Decided to start easy, so I went with the Mini: glad I did, as even with the Mini I was initially struggling! Managed to inadvertently get my first trophy after about 10 corners (I barrel rolled!), but after a few stages it started to click and soon after I claimed my first fastest sector time: hurrah!

Read the PS4 manual and discovered you can enable downloading while in "rest" mode, so I left it resting overnight. As of this morning it had downloaded about 20GB, so I'm hoping it might be all done by this evening.
That's the most irritating thing about the new consoles. I know you got a digital download, but if you buy a physical disc you HAVE to install all 50+ GB of content, and you only get enough HDD space for 10 games at that point. It's like buying a physical copy for PC and it's just a steam code, the CD doesn't have the content. :|
Ah, I didn't know that! So even physical copies have to be fully downloaded? My first disc game (MGS5) should arrive this week, so I was expecting to pop that in and play it straight away!*

(*if I can tear myself away from Dirt that is)
Yeah, it kind of sucks and the old consoles didn't have that problem. You can swap out the PS4 HDD though... The new consoles are actually missing a lot that the old consoles had. Like being able to store and play music... Or in the case of the Xbone being able to stream from your PC, or playing in the background.... ehh. There's a lot missing.

Great channel, thanks) Also, Mashup version:
I highly recommend you give it a listen :P
A new genre has born, Rally Jungle!

---

Are there really PC physical copies without actual installation disc in it? I've recently bought one game and it had but the day one patch was almost the size of the game itself.
Yep. It's like buying a CD or Vinyl and instead you actually just get a low res iTunes download. And I hate iTunes as much as I hate Steam.

You cheeky lads have proper luck trying the game out and especially putting your hands on that tiny beautiful Corsa RX. I do not own a console obviously but awaiting the next update to juice up the game from its dusty old content. :)

NEW MENUS?! Sweet buttery baby Jesus! What do they look like? Then again, DR's menus aren't as awful as AC's....

Sam stuff you've seen on the console adverts and playtests, they're basically close up slow mo's of the cars instead of the stage overviews we currently have, they do look good :)

Bonus liveries?

The S4 and the 6R4?
& Impreza & RS200 etc etc.  The stage starts are new and the new cars are great, as are the TYRES!!!

Oh. I thought it was actually a new menu. Wonder if the videos will get cut off on my triples like the wallpapers now. :p It's fun.

Well I've got a 1TB PS4 and there aren't many games on my shopping list at the moment (in fact the next one I want hasn't even got a release date yet), so hopefully I'll be OK for a while.

Back to DiRT and, after an evening with the game, my first impression is that it was well worth the wait. The rallycross is exactly what I was hoping for. I wasn't a fan of the "short" circuit variants, but some of the alternative Holjes configurations are actually pretty good fun. Really pleased that all the cars are "open" in the custom championship from the outset, so you are able to just dive in and try the cars you want without having to do loads of career first.

Made a start on the career as well; did the first rallycross Championship in a Super 1600, then had a go at the first rally in a Mini. Was heading for a win in that Championship, but I threw it all away on the last rally. Stupid Finnish trees. I hope other console owners appreciate the experience, but I like the fact that just finishing the rally stages is an achievement, let alone posting a good time in the process! Will do the next rallycross Championship tonight, then hopefully I'll have enough cash for a Supercar and a Group B rally car.

Oh, and did my first daily (RS200 on one of the Monte Carlo stages: pretty good introduction to Group B cars!). I was actually doing quite well, but I went into one of the hairpins a bit too hot, spun the car and, in my haste to get going again, managed to mow down some spectators. Double penalty: bugger! Oh well, hopefully today's daily will go better!

Would you care to elaborate please? :) The stage starts, in what way are they new? Do they have a new look (new objects/ marshalls etc), new positions on the stages, or a different functionality in game (more control of the car at the start)?

And tyres? Different tyre physics model, different visuals, option to choose which type?

We need to know!!

Here's a good look at full gravel pikes peak on PS4 with someone who can actually drive (only a couple of mistakes)

Stage starts have a short Title/Scenery intro screen now, rather than dropping you straight in.  It serves little purpose, but its a nice finishing touch that I like!

The Menu backdrops are slo-mo car based, rather than the aerial view of part of the stage, that often whited out the white text in the Menu itself!  Again, well polished!

The new tyre puncture model, seems to be in effect, I did two runs over Kontinjarvi last night with a Polo and the tyres remained intact, although I am playing with a pad, so may not have been hitting them hard enough!  I did bust a rad though!  :)

We do have additional standard liveries as we know, many have been seen and talked about here, but having had the PC version for so long, its the Custom liveries that I will miss most!  Hopefully, that will be a 'thing' for console in the future?

Everything just feels a bit more well packaged and presented, and the game itself did deserve that.  Its all good!

Don't forget the patches! You can expect at least a couple of GBs worth of patches on almost all games after a while.

And nice to see you enjoying the console version :)

I've had the game for a year now and I've only gotten to like clubman championship with the Fulvia. :P I just do custom events.

Any chance to get that sound update in a patch somewhere in the future for DR as well?

It quite clearly says next title.

Both excited and disappointed! I hope it will go into this DiRT Rally as well.

Gossip? ;)

Oh no its the "some future title" line all over again.. Well at least we can be assured that Codies can put out a very good Rally game now.  Hope management knows the high bar has been set, both for communication (ea) and realism.

Any future titles hopefully live up to up to the simulation standards that has been set.
