Azoresst. I don't tweet but  is there any chance Dave Sullivan could look at my post on page 723 and comment on getting some good & loud engine sound reverb in outside views when the car is belting through the forest & hills ? I think it would be a great enhancement and add some soul to the whole experience.  Those that have enjoyed it it real life will know what I mean.
I've never seen a rally in real life, but I've been at Spa-Francorchamps and remember noises echoing against the forest. I was playing DiRT Rally yesterday, and while watching a replay I think I did hear this effect when a car is a bit further from the camera, so the direct sound doesn't overpower the echoing sounds coming from the distance.

There is reverb present in Dirt Rally. It's most noticeable during cartain camera angles during replay. The best example while driving is through the tunnel in Monte.

I think most if not all cars we have seen are final when it comes to sound. Just mixing tweaks left.

When we went to play dirt rally Dave showed us how the game scanned the scenery, and if there were more trees/scenery around the sound would echo more, pretty cool feature

You can really tell it's present with some of the Replay Cam Mods, and it is really nice when the car's in the distance. I think it was introduced with the Finland update, but later toned down a bit, though I'm not entirely certain of that.

EDIT: Whoops! I forgot that I don't exist today.

Interesting, I have never noticed it and I have a good 5.1 surround system. If it is there, it needs to be well enhanced, in reality, in the right conditions, the reverb sound overwhelms everything, Hairs on neck stand up, awesome sound, quite a rush !

Yeah, but the problem is, I think, that in most scenario's in game, the car is so close to the camera that the actual direct sounds are louder than the reverb sounds. Or are the reverb sounds also overwhelming the direct car sounds when you're standing just a couple of meters from the car in real life?

I just think it's hard to get that wow effect translated to a game as you experience it when a weber equipped NA car is attacking through the forest of a live stage.

Dirt Rally is by far the best sounding game out there though. The M3 for example, it's the only time a game captured that raw punchy inlet manifold sound that car makes IRL.

Only R3E comes close in the sound aspect of games.

Will the car sounds be tweaked from what was shown on the Pre-Release vids?

Dunno about the rest but I would assume that some cars are in the same situation (pretty much final except for the mix),

It could be purely the fact that I'm not used to hearing cars from Chase Cam, but both the Evo & 205 didnt sound how I expected?  :/
The Evo sounds pretty close to my ears. The 205 I can't comment on.

Thats exactly it.  Here's a camera hack replay, it showcases the sound mix better than original

Does anyone hope that the sound of stones and things hitting the car is louder in D4 or we get a slider for it? I watched a video the other day and have been in a Mk2 Escort at a rally school and the sounds under the car were much much louder than in DR but this could have been down to the surface but it definitely feels like it should be louder?

If I could choose freely I would have sliders for everything, much like R3E. One slider for Engine, one for transmission whine, one for Surface etc etc. That way you could create your perfect little sound mix :)

They should obviously put the demo version they had running on Steam as a Community test to make sure it's free of bugs. *wink wink*

Your'r right there Turbodevin, it depends on the conditions, when the car is out is the open, you wont hear it, its more prevalent in the forest or hills, as the car approaches, then direct sound takes over as the car passes you and reverb kicks in as the car disappears off. I posted a vid on P723 as an example. Take heli view in DR for example, right now you hear the heli motor and co driver voice, in reality, at that distance away from the car, you would hear the mighty roar of the engine noise reverberating off the trees. Paul has confirmed that replays have been improved, perhaps they could allow a few seconds after the car passes the camera for the reverb to kick in, if the sound guys get it right, it blows you away if you have a decent sound system. Here's another slightly better example.

KevM. That camera hack / mod certainly does showcase the sound mix better doesn't it !  Perhaps reverb is there in DR but the random replay style didn't allow the sound to come through as it does in stage side TV camera coverage. Let's see what D4 brings, fingers crossed.

Its just a pity that its a Polo WRC and not a Millington or BDA resonating through the Welsh forest!  :)

Yeah the replay style often reminds me of the following scene from Taken 3:

Here is another that i think shows it off quite nicely too

https://youtu.be/jCidW8VN8V0

Its beautiful to the ears!

And yes, i think a lot of the sound is already there, its only the cameras fault.

Personally i would turn it up more in forest stages, especially antilag and backfires could bumped, but thats MY opinion.

I think turbos should be banned. All cars should be NA with webers/solex/mikunis instead.

The world would be a better place. For me. Not the climate.

With you on that one KevM, There's no sound like it ( It haunts me ! )

gfRally, thanks for the Turini vid, the reverb is definitely there isn't it, just needs the sound guys to tweak it to give it that WOW ! factor. It didn't cross my mind that it's the camera that's the problem, thanks for your input guys, good topic. Hope @sound_fx can sort it for D4.

I would like to see a slider for this, it needs to be there for immersive realism but can get annoying after a while.
