DiRTy Gossip about DIRT Rally Games

@KickUp, As I said, I see why publishers do what they do. Great write up! So, let me understand this: the Hyundai was the 4th car that was pending licensing when our fellow forum members went to play your game?
Sort of, I think there were still a couple pending in R5 at that point.

Yup, first let me caveat this with the fact that I'm not a huge fan of pre-order incentives but there are a few things to consider.
1) Those that pre-order a game pay a premium to do so. That's not to say that they pay more than list price but games do drop in price after launch and so it is important for publishers to incentivise people to pay the full RRP as much as possible.
2) It is also important for the publisher to get their pre-order numbers as high as possible as it helps build confidence with retailers which in turn means that the game gets more marketing and therefore exposure.
3) Some platform holders enforce publishers to make Pre-Order content available a set time after launch. Yes, there will be some discussion over pricing or whether it will be free but the content will almost certainly become available.
4) Considering points 1and 2, by the time that the pre-order car becomes available, its cost (if it has one) combined with the cost of buying the game at that point, are likely to be less (perhaps considerably less) than what the pre-order version will have cost.
5) I might get in trouble for saying this last point but here we go. Our publishers asked us to give them a car that they could use for Pre-Orders. Rather than taking a car from our existing list we pushed to get a new car added and that was the Hyundai. The Hyundai was not going to be in the game until Koch pushed us to add it, so it really is a bonus car and is the fourth R5 car.

I get that people don't like it and as a consumer I sit firmly in that camp too but I hope this goes some way to explaining some of the reasons for it.
...On another note...

Some footage of morphing conditions shown around 2 minutes into the "DiRT 4 - Introducing Your Stage [UK]" YouTube video made me curious: if we create, save, drive, & share stages in "Your Stage," can we later edit conditions for those saved custom stages, creating variants of the same layouts with different weather and/or time-of-day? (I apologize if this has already been previously answered elsewhere & I missed it.) Thanks.

Yes you can :)

Same here, really appreciate the transparency.

If your bosses doubt that your open and honest approach is the correct way forward, feel free to mention to them that this will be my first ever pre-ordered PC game in 15+ years. I normally wait months before investing in them these days (price to drop, DLC to be know, bugs to be ironed out), but your approach on here combined with how well DiRT Rally played on Day 1 and was supported thereafter have convinced me to make an exception to my rule in this case (despite the Hyundai, not because of it, mind).

By the way, seems those Korean spammers are back. Must want an Accent WRC too...

I just hope that big bosses of CM knows what a great asset @KickUp is. Seems like the Dirt team is raising not only standards for racing games, but for community feedback and Q&A.

Tbh it's a bit sad to see people always look at something from a negative point of view.
U can also see that bonus car in a positive way like:
"Thank you for pre ordering the game, here's something extra for your effort"
Especially now seeing that @KickUp made a great effort for a whole new car rather than taking a car that was already in the game.

On Fearless difficulty it would be cool if the mechanics actually could fail to complete a repair in time. Let's say you need to change the clutch. It's estimated that this will take 29 minutes of the 30 available. If your crew is skilled they would likely do it in that time or even less. However, things can always go wrong, so they might actually need 1-2 minutes more, which means a time penalty.

Mr @KickUp showing what 'Be Fearless' slogan really means! :)

Spirit of '4' tweet lives on?

Thanks for an honest and transparent explanation. I would have agreed that segragating the playerbase from the very start would have been less than ideal, but since I'm a bit of a fanboy and I'm convinced I will love DiRT 4 I was going to pre-order anyway :)

When we played it, I drive two cars, the fiesta, and the BLANK. The Hyundai was there but wasn't ready, and I don't think I played in the BLANK, but that may have been ready

@RallyDriven The BLANK R5 was the one I was most looking forward to, great! :D Now, talking seriously I'm 99.5% sure the list will be as follows:

- Ford Fiesta
- Mitsubishi Mirage
- Hyundai i20
- Peugeot 208

@KickUp Pardon me asking you this personally but are Hyundai still being tough about putting extra liveries in their car? Also, trivial detail, but I'm curious the same: why don't Hyundai want the name of their car 'i20' on the grill?

Anyways, @KickUp will we be able to sell our cars this time around? I seen something brief where someone mentioned classifieds I think they called it.

What about upgrades? I absolutely hated the upgrade system in dirt rally. I just can't wrap my head around a team entering a 250hp car that weights 2500lbs into a class where it's possible to have 350hp and only weight 2100lbs.

Dynamic weather has been ruled out right? How about dynamic time? Start a stage at dusk and it ends at night? Or starts at dawn and ends in sun rise?

Has anything been done with the automatic transmission penalty? In dirt rally to get reverse you had to come to a complete stop, then release the brake and hit the brake again to get reverse. No way to quickly down shift and whip the car back around..Not everyone has the means to use full manual due to dexterity of ligaments..

How about smart ai? Specifically the crowd? Absolutely hated spectators being static and being forced reset just because you got within 10m of them. Yet sometimes you could fly right by them and be good. The crow should move when a car gets too close. I understand some of it was to refrain from cheating or corner cutting, but I feel in 2017 something else could be done.

Speaking of cheating blocks, will concrete bushes and solid uranium being going away? So frustrating to make a small mistake and hit a bush that's right beside the road and come to a dead stop. Or whipping around a corner hitting an advert sign to get the side of your car smashed in and bounced around 4 times.

What about more customization on car set up? Diff split from front to rear on AWD cars, tire pressure, tire choices, turbo psi as well as when it builds boost and when it passes the bov (if car equipped?

With that said, what about being able to save and share car set ups between players? And what I'd really love, is for the crew being able to suggest set ups for a stage. They know as well as the co driver knows what the stage entails even if the driver doesnt.
@KickUp please? Anything here? Or at least I can't answer anything there or stay tuned for some of these answers?

@bogani @KingOfCoins  Yeah it was technically a disaster, but on the other Hand a beautiful WRC from the past. What I would love to see again in the series ^^

Oh I agree with you on that one. It was my favorite car in the original Colin McRae DiRT. I would love to see it return.

But I would probably want to see his older but smaller brother be included first

I have watched that clip of the Focus RS RX coming over that crest about 20 times now. I want to drive it!
I have driven it :D
Comment flagged for abuse.

I want a go in the RS RX, but I really want to have a go in a Group B rallycross car. I have my fingers crossed that a certain Ford is going to make the cut...
I have seen the Group B RX cars and they look absolutely awesome! I can't wait to try them out particularly [redacted] and the [redacted]
Ah yes, I recall us discussing how we both wished the placeholders for the [redacted] and [redacted] were playable so we could see how they compared against the more modern [redacted] Supercar that we tried on the day.

Great post @KickUp, nice to see the transparency of the Dirt team so well conveyed on the forum.

Those two were the most popular ones. But I could see some of the other group b Rallycars make an appearance.

But what I would like the most is Martin Schanke's ford escort RS2000. That car is so bonkers. And it was raced in early group b rallycross

Martin ran many cool cars over the years, but there is one that I covet more than any other...
