JZStudios 631 Posted October 7, 2017 Depending on the camera, altitude, and speed, you can actually get a surface fairly close to laser scanning. Photogrammetry works pretty well. The downside is at best you'd have to do it on a cloudy overcast day to not get any big shadows for dynamic lighting in game.
urgaffel 99 Posted October 8, 2017 Photogrammetry is great but it needs a lot of massaging to make it work in a game. It's also quite time consuming to send teams out to photograph everything. There's a great presentation from a few years ago by Dice about how they created the environments for Star Wars Battlefront if anyone is interested in learning about it. tbtstt 2,387 Posted October 9, 2017 Do you want to watch a Group A+ EscCos make a cool noise and do some donuts? Of course you do:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuuDUeIh9os(Skip to the 9 minute mark to miss all the chat)
gfRally 449 Posted October 9, 2017 @tbtstt cant watch video at work, but is he doing some sort of crazy livery to it? I love his designs, but this just looks so pure in white... (no pune)

(no pune) I believe a new livery was mentioned in the original blurb about the car but, for now at least, it's just pure white.(and I think all rally cars look their best in plain colours, hence why my own livery in DiRT 4 is plain white!) I also really hate the "I'm going to film something on my smartphone and upload it to a "professional" YouTube page."

I also really hate the "I'm going to film something on my smartphone and upload it to a "professional" YouTube page." I avoided The Hoonigans channel for a while, but I started watching their videos a few months ago and there is actually some pretty decent content on the channel. There are a few factual errors in there (like in that EscCos video), but they cover some pretty cool cars. I do agree with you about the filming with phones thing though: it does strike me as a bit amateurish when these channels are trying to portray themselves as professionals! MrDeap 12 Posted October 10, 2017 I found the flaw of sim racing physic. B) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raM8EZ_aKt0The G meter is actually the force on the tyres & not the sprung mass. It's AC, but my guess, it apply to all current well known sim racing. My pic make sense
Slowish 0 Posted October 11, 2017 One problem is that's not actually the fastest line through the curve - just sayin'. :D

I reedited with text.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_V1sN9CnscIt's the ideal force acted at the wheel(tire) to get through a corner. Although that's not how the body movement will be doing based on the G meter.By the way, the tuned Cressica is lighter than the superfast.
Underkex 0 Posted October 12, 2017 Suuuuper interesting. You can see how different is the grip and the oversteering with tarmac or gravel specs on the same surface.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=steJX25mD_0

carpa 303 Posted October 12, 2017 Tarmac specs cars really do come alive in the last two days of Rally Spain, roads are so good it is almost circuit racing and so you have to be very committed not to lose time in every corner, specially the fast ones where the downforce really comes into play: I was surprised to see how they were taking some corners flat out!
