I wonder if "Riga" is the Latvian World RX track as well? The outline there looks wrong?
The outline is from the whole track, not just the rallycross layout

Ah, that explains it!

Finally got round to having a proper look through the albums posted by @urgaffel and @Kuris last night: excellent stuff and a timely reminder that I need to get my finger out and plan a trip!

The Mitaka Subaru showroom is one of the first places I need to visit when I eventually get out there!

My favorite car is that Celica ST185 and the Subarus looked really nice as well. Both cars had McRae's name on but can't say for sure if they were actually driven by him. Not that it matters to me, it was nice to see his name on those cars.
On the assumption the number plates are legitimate, that is the Legacy Colin won the 1993 Rally New Zealand in and the Impreza that McRae drove in San Remo and Rally GB in 1998: so you have seen cars he actually drove @Kuris!
Thanks for digging up the info, much appreciated!

P.S. Subnautica and other well made indie games based on Unity have a clear coherent art style, of which is not ****.
The issue of games having flashy graphics but with a bland, lifeless artstyle often turning out to be mediocre is not something caused just by UE4 and Unity and so on. Back in the 360 era I was constantly looking out for games with the plastic sheen of a completely unedited Unreal 3 post processing set, because generally speaking that meant a game had little care put into it. The classic example I use is the Rainbow Six Vegas games - the assets are all AAA-grade, but even in a still screenshot you can tell how completely uninspired the game was.
With asset stores and other methods to quickly pump out a title (which, by the way, have very little to do with engines being free), you can see plenty of games that have AAA-grade graphics but, at least in my experience, it's exceptionally easy to tell how uninspired they are without even touching them. Games with a more unique artstyle due to limited budget are often where I struggle, and that's been an issue since the beginning of indie gaming.
That's a good point about the plasticky sheen of the Unreal engine, which for some god forsaken reason a lot of people seem to like and think looks "photorealistic." I hate being able to look at games and just think, "Oh, that's ABSOLUTELY a UE game." I mentioned Ethan Carter, and I think the only reason that game doesn't look like plastic is because it used photogrammetry.
I'm not 100% on RS: Vegas, but as far as I can remember the gameplay was still good, but of course that was back when it was new. I don't remember a whole lot. Yeah, the graphics aren't amazing, but much like Insurgency (which actually looks kind of similar) it has a more realistic art style. You can tell that you're in a casino. It's still art direction if not top notch grade A super graphics.

Gameplay > graphics.

Every time... and twice on Sundays.

There's more to games than just visuals. Not even the best graphics can turn bad gameplay into a good game.

Some games got popular by reusing aspects of other games but applying gameplay that was so much better, the spin-off's popularity outgrew the original's.

If there are free/affordable assets/engines to help good gameplay designers get better-quality games out, that's a win for gamers.

Okay, so again, bad games oft look shitty. EVERY game that's been mentioned as "Bad looking" has in fact NOT been bad looking. You may as well say that Fez looks terrible, or the Witness, Monaco, Ori and the Blind Forest, Anodyne, Basically ANY of the Zelda games beyond 2, Bastion, Child of Light, or Oxenfree. And those are just games from my collection.
Except that NONE of those look terrible. They all have a clearly defined art style that fits the aesthetic of the game they're going for. Not to mention that most of them are objectively beautiful. You could also add Firewatch to that list based on your definition of "bad graphics"
They ALL had thought, time, and effort put into the visuals. A strong art direction indicates a level of care and craft. Asset flipping does not. I mean, I bought The Vanishing of Ethan Carter just because it's pretty. Poor art direction and obvious asset flips indicate there's probably not a lot of car going into the product.
P.S. Subnautica and other well made indie games based on Unity have a clear coherent art style, of which is not ****.
Firewatch is a beautiful Unity game.  Coherent art direction matters so much, I love Supergiant games for that.
I demand a secret filter selection in the next DiRT title for Firewatch graphics.

I genuinely think minimalist, more stylistic 3d graphics are the next direction mid-budget games are going to go in just due to the sheer amount of budget necessary to go full realism. I'd love to see games that put tons of time into accurately simulating real life scenarios from a gameplay perspective but are okay with having a more simplistic visual style for the sake of ease of production and to allow for the creation of a lot more content.
tl;dr low poly dirt rally 2 pls

I would like to add both Cuphead and Hollow Knight onto the list of beautiful games made in unity

I would add Escape from Tarkov.

Pure gunporn plus beautiful. But it's different style of aesthetics - more realistic

Seeing more real rallycross tracks in another game makes me want more rallycross tracks in DiRT 4 even more!
If you haven't tried ProjectCars2, the RallyX there is really quite good IMO, and it has a couple of interesting tracks that D4 doesn't have. The RallyX may be the best bits of the title (PC2) but, some of the other content is decent and may get better as the game gets patched over the course of the coming months.
Apologies @Slowish, I missed this post! Given my disappointment with Gran Turismo Sport I am tempted to pick up another racing game instead and PC2 is top of the list at the moment.

Way off topic but if anyone thinks the F1 forum is hostile, EA responded to a battlefront loot crate Reddit post and cause the largest $hitstorm in Reddit history, has nearly 400k downvotes!

I feel bad for Lee, i hope he is nowhere near this.

Just got back from the R.A.C. Rally...... miss a tail-happy 70s class!
Did you see me in the white Nova?! Car 82! We’ve been running at the back the last 2 day’s after an excursion into a ditch on Saturday morning :( Made it to the finish today though under super rally!

Also, turns out me playing dirt 4 isn’t too unrealistic after a mk1 escort crashed on 3 stages in a row, then rolled the next day and still finished!

Project cars 2 is my goto racing game, the rally cross in vr is awesome, just wish it had more rally cross tracks. The ai is too slow right now too, but I'm sure that'll be balanced out eventually. Been thinking about starting an online rally cross league in that game, when I get more time.

It stinks that we won't see Toyotas in racing games because for some reason they keep pulling out.

Apparently they feel that it's a 'bad investment' to put their cars into racing games because people are unlikely to buy their cars off of it, which is a silly reason until you realize that they're actually sort of right if all you care about is making as much profit as physically possible which is definitely what Toyota is about now.

Today, what do they REALLY have to offer?  Do you really want to drive a virtual Camry or Prius?  ick!  And most of their trucks are rather bland, well can't single out Toyota on trucks, basically everyone has similar design.

All I want is the Toyota Supra for a racing game. And the 90's Celica and 80's Corral for Rally games. I think being in a video games makes the people want the car even more. The consumer thinks, 'Wow what an awesome car! I want one in my garage!'

Semi-On-Topic: Matt Farah got to drive a works Stratos, he didn't get to really wring it out much because it's part of a collection still fun to see.

Personally I love how the Lancia Stratos looks. I love the wedged nose and the duck tail spoiler. The lengened and car together also makes it cool. So, all round I think the Lancia Stratos is a cool car :) . For the other picture on the other hand I had to hold back from dropping my iPad and throwing up.  :s
