I think the offline mode should be really hard to finish it, in rallying you never get happy endings and you accomplish the maximum category with ease (ask Jon), It would be cool if you dont get results your rallying career is gone and you can do regional events, just win little cash if you win and lose a lot if you dont, Jon knows for sure. When you reach the money to do a JWRC replica and fail you lose it all, or if you succeed in JWRC you can fail in WRC2 replica, if you are an average driver you should be happy doing some regional and national events

I'm guessing he means the Renault, seeing as D4 is the only one with the R5 class.

And, if so, he's right; RWD in DR1 was infinitely better than in D4; it was scary. It required care.

Thinking about this earlier got me concerned about the AI we've seen so far. Part of what make DR the famous challenge that it was was just how strong the AI is and that any win felt like you'd really pulled something special. This was lost in D4 too IMO and I couldn't help but note the slow AI times in the videos we've seen so far - please bring back the 'near WR' level AI for DR2.
Completely agree. I was happy a lot of the time to get a top 3 stage time, as long as I was consistent across the whole rally. This made it really feel like a battle throughout the whole rally, trading top times and such.

In contrast, D4's biggest challenges came from the sponsor requirements. No sense of actual rivalry with the AI.

I don't want any mercy from the AI. Lets get this to be the "Dark Souls of racing games" again.
Alvaro in BMW begs to differ.
can remember beating world record by quite a bit with a m3 yet alvaro was like 20 seconds in front :D

I would really like some dynamic times from the different drivers. Like some are good on tarmac but not on snow, or someone is good on gravel and snow but abysmal on tarmac. And it should fir with the nationalities of the drivers. It's completely unnecessary of course but would be really cool and immersive.
Hundred times this - I'll start an 'Offline gameplay' thread akin to the ranking one for this chat.
The only downside I see with this is that once you master all surfaces yourself, you will be at a huge advantage as you know that the other drivers will drop points on their weaker surfaces.

I really don't know how they would make a career mode appeal to me. Imo it's mostly just a gimmicky grind that never really manages to catch my interest.
Would become interesting if this career was carried over to multiplayer instead.

That black rim against the wall in the background of that video looks like a speedline corse sl1408.
Those were fitted to group A saxo's.

Citroen Saxo confirmed!

I'm pretty sure of that yeah. Only Rally and Rallycross this time. Otherwise they would have announced that by now

Edit: Okay, I was wrong, it doesn't seem to be Baranowo. Still searching through onboards. Just gotta find the proper exit with not that much trees out of that square right. There aren't that many in Rally Poland which aren't an intersection. 6:37 is similar in video below but the road further doesn't match.

Actually @versedi maybe you shouldn't have changed your mind...

Hoping there's this one and one other Polish stage, if it's just Baranowo split in half we're not looking at many KMs. On the other hand, what a stage; I just watched the second half and it's terrifying!

Wait, If that is the stage from the onboard, that means there are some tarmac bits in there, Just a few hundred meters, if even that, but it would be a mixed stage then, right? Now that would be very nice

Jon did answer an Instagram AMA that there were some mixed parts in the game.

Looks like they got the dirt colour wrong here too. :D
I'm going to assume you're kidding; it's a still from a video of a TV of a stage being run in the dry at maybe noon in what appears to be early autumn vs the screen from the real rally where it was 8am and the gravel was wet. Yeah, it's not a 100% laser scan, but come on, you can't expect a 15km rally stage to be closer.

I much preferred the lighting in DR to D4 and hope they go back to it, but you can't judge off that.

Which kilometer of the stage that is from which year?

The Baranowo was run in two different directions at least in 2015.
There's also extended version for powerstage.

Please let me know which SS of which rally is that.

The color is right - but it's not autumn! It's middle of summer. It looks like it rained at night and the wet gravel was digged up back because you can see the lines already created by at least one loop of cars (see the ruts at the middle of corner). Also the video is too bluueish - the grass look more unnatural - in summer it's more yellowish in Poland just like in DIRT's picture.

Also Poland's gravel varies - there are stages with more reddish and bigger rocks while most of them are very sandish.

Just see pictures like here:

Dry:

Wet rusted:

Dry with wet gravel digged uP;

SS11, Rally Poland 2017, Time stamp 4:58 (doesnt work on the forum, copy link below):

It rained that last year :) Colour in pictures is justified completely when it's dry. Notice how the gravel looks before the first corner at the start, and how it looks just after it in the shadows where are trees - it's still completely wet.

Nice find mate @Rod@RodgerDavies  , really good eye. Are you from Poland? :D

I still think that the stage they've run the previous time isn't Baranowo - that's something else. There's no square right like that on Baranowo. Unless that was 6:37 and I'm just seeing the road ahead wrong.

I see that Jon removed those videos from his IG :(

Well at least concrete plates are confirmed, at least 200m of them in Baranowo :D

@versedi

Just thought it would be fun to watch the long stages from Poland 2017 on WRC+

Even if I hadn't found it I enjoyed myself :P

Looking at the coverage and thinking about DR stage lengths, I'd hazard a guess that it's the 2016 version in game rather than 2017.

Another random thought; if they're only recording pacenotes for this now, does that mean these weren't in the "28 long specials" Stephane Prevot was talking about? Or this footage has just been kicking around for a while?

Pretty hyped for Baranowo, the concrete section in the village there is pretty fun. I was there, spectating in 2017

I believe it used sections of real stages and stitched them together. The GB ones were the worst example of this approach, the Poland, Mexico, Germany and Monte Carlo ones were excellent. Basically, the ones they made later. If they are doing WRC8 and taking a year to bring the others up to those standards, it could be superb.

Regarding the DR2 version, it's unlikely but it would be great if they're able to take some of the sections with multiple roads (like in the village) and create a few different variants of them.
