This is their abandoned project. I admit I didn't know about this piece of news, but you made it sound like some kind of official return by VW. This is just a "what could have been" by VW.

EDIT: I'll tell you something though. If Codemasters don't make WRC, here's a way to get a recent WRC-spec car without the crazy licensing hoops. If they grab this and the C3, like Ubisoft did, we'd be good.
Ubisoft got Meeke's C3, just as he's been fired from the WRC, awkward!
I wonder if there will be a hasty request to get the name scrubbed off the car?

Player One confirmed as the new driver of Citroen Racing.

I am more interested in what new VW R5 will look like, they got tons of experience developing Fabia R5, my bet is it is gonna be even better!

Sebastien Loeb plays Dirt... AHA! Codies has actually bought Milestone and are now developing Loeb Rally 2! ;-)

Might even be a duel title between the two masters... "2 Dirty Sebastians".

"2 Sebastians, 1 Cup"?

What do you guys think of today's CMs announcement they're listing on the stock market? It will raise a lot of money leaving them debt free, also allows them to buy certain rights? I'm sure they will have to provide some guidance to the market soon about upcoming projects too and how much they expect to make and which quarter any future games will be released. Will be worth a scan!

Who ever buys stock in codies is a fool who wishes to go bankrupt.

And here I actively avoided saying that.

I think we need to start taking that statement by the BigBen community manager at face-value. They said "for 2018, let's celebrate the return of V-Rally". This is, basically, them saying: "V-Rally this year. We'll talk WRC for another year." and I have the feeling they are going to use the WRC license to put modern WRCs in V-Rally, taking full advantage of it.

Unrelated, but we've got nowhere else to talk about this.

I've been wanting a game that transitions through seasons for years, AFAIK, this is the first one to do it, good on you guys Evo.

Everything is still wild speculation no matter which way you look at it. But what is the deal with shortening the eSports season? They did two years with eSports accompanying the real rallies, then all of a sudden compress it into half the timeframe...

I don't know what to say to be honest. We simply lack information. One one hand, I think Codemasters are not the ones doing it and Milestone seems too busy.

On the other hand we have the official WRC Game twitter giving the exact same response as the BigBen community manager, which leads me to think the same person manages both.

https://twitter.com/wrcthegame/status/1002587170442481665

There's also this tweet:

https://twitter.com/wrcthegame/status/998964027580657664

This confirms a game is in development and, apparently, the person in charge of the WRC Game twitter knows and is in touch with the ones developing the next WRC.

I have no idea who is doing what.

For my sanity I am going to stop beating this dead horse. With Sardinia and E3 just around the corner I am sure we will know soon enough what Codies and WRC are up to.

Are Codies even going to be present at E3? I don't see them on the list of companies that are on the show floor.

Deep Silver will be there, and they publish DiRT. Codies could also just send a trailer or teaser.

Deep Silver must handle distribution in the US. It's a possibility of us hearing something, but I think it's more likely we'll see F1 2018 there.

Codemasters don’t usually do big announcements at places like e3. Personally I wouldn’t have thought it would be a good time to do an announcement, with so many big game news coming out, it’s easy to get lost in the stream. Especially with the likes of fallout and such being shown

So Codemasters is teaming up with Eden Games (the studio behind the old v-rally and tdu games) to make a F1 mobile game :
http://www.pocketgamer.biz/news/68235/codemasters-teams-up-with-eden-games-to-develop-f1-mobile-racing/

I know what that mean, more crazy theories ! (even though it's probably just a weird coincidence)
