I actually think Subaru is right on track currently. They continue to refine their Hawkeye language more and more. There are still some rough and ugly edges in some models (*cough*STI Concept*cough*), but it is getting along better and better. Like the new Viziv Tourer Concept:
Now that's some nice design imho. I hope they pour some of that into the next STI. Make it a limousine (aka a "sedan" in american) and put a wing on it. And some color, that is much more... blue.(says man, who daily drives one of the bluest cars in existence. Blue is nice ^^)
Anyway, look at that sexy front end of that concept. It's like they forged the elegance of a Volvo with the anger of a Lamborghini. It doesn't look all raged up, but more like some very confident evil smile. Love it. especially those headlights, please built a production model with those.

P.S.: WRC cars never got smaller. The production cars got bigger. What is a small car today has the size of a compact car from the millenium. It is just a nececity to use a small base car as a WRC car. So, although I like the millenial WRC cars more, I think the average consumer is to blame. Those who think small cars have to be bigger and still look cuddly... Although I do really like the i20 WRC, just not the colors
I.... actively now despise that. XD Way too many sharp angles and lines, though I've always been a fan of the more elegant, graceful curves. Why are the wheel wells/arches hexagons if the wheel is round? Why does the goofy front mouth have it's lips stuck out like some instagram girl, with a big russian chin protruding underneath?
What are those... things on the roof?

Also, $20 says those "vents" on the front bumper are just solid black plastic covers "designed" only for looks. Why do so many companies do that?
I just realized... depending on how you look at it, this thing has 2-3 front splitters.

Don't forget the WRX and moreso the STI engine has basically atrophied for ten years.
Yeah, that's the biggest technical aspect of the newer cars that I have issue with. 300 BHP from the showroom was an impressive figure in the late 90's/early 00's but, despite the car getting bigger, the engine development hasn't, in my opinion, matched it.

As I said a page ago as well, the UK model got the EJ25 instead of the beloved EJ20 which was another blow as well. If I was buying any post-2005 model I would unquestionably go for a JDM import.

The Metro 6R4 probably would've been a better example
I was looking for one but couldn't find a picture that showed the crew as squeezed together as in the 205.
How's this for small and ridiculous (of a different nature)!

The mini might be small, but it doesn't really look any different from the street version, maybe minus the fog lights.
I was thinking more in terms of how ridiculous the car looks compared to the stock model. The 205 is done somewhat tastefully, mostly following the shape of the car, the Metro, however... isn't :D It's just a small boxy car with massive aero boxes and spoilers sticking out everywhere.

Both the 6R4 and 205 T16 do follow the silhouette of the base model - and both did share some panels with the standard car - but yeah, they are a long way from the street version!

(Which is a good thing, as the standard MG Metro was pretty bloody awful)

I love the 6r4. It's a beast. And always puts a smile on my face when I see one on a rally stage somewhere here in g.b.
It's an iconic car that sums up perfectly all that was that outrageous period of rallying. I guess it's similar to today's wrc cars in that the Yaris doesn't much look like it's rallying counterpart but it's a sight to behold when it's appearing sideways out of a forest with Tanak or Latvala at the wheel.

0-60 in 2 secs and 0-100 in 6 ! whats not to like about the 6R4 ? thats not including the awesome sound it makes B)

metros standard were pretty dire. the extra kit really transforms the 6R4. the cars of yesterday had a lot more character than todays cars.

The NA V6 definitely gave it an awesome sound - one of the best of Group B - but put the 6R4 on the back foot performance wise when compared to it's rivals.

Was brilliant to see one in the field for RallyGB this year!

(I disagree with your 0-60 figure though: sure the 6R4 was over three seconds?)

i think it depends on which version it was some were 2-3 seconds depending on spec.

Sure the International rally spec car was still over three seconds: but I could be wrong there!

I always thought that the Delta S4 was the quickest Group B rally car off the line which was quoted as hitting 60 in under three seconds.

will gollops did 2.5 it depends on which cars we talking about :)
Will Gollops wasn't a rally car, it was a bi-turbo rallycross car. In rally specification the NA V6 was underpowered when compared to it's rivals.

we splitting hairs. ;) it was a rally cross car. we are talking about the metro 6r4 which wills is. upto 800bhp. normal rally spec car was just over 300. depends on what they were running. which is what i did say. i didnt say rally spec or a specific car for those very reasons. just metro 6R4 is a great car. infact if i would own any car it would be a 6R4. hopefully wills old car. the problem is many of those horse power monsters get put back to proper rally spec as they make more money.

Oh yeah, Wills (turbo) rallycross 6R4 was an absolute weapon, I know it was dialed down a bit (about 650 BHP if I remember rightly) as it frequently spat tyres off the rim! Was great to see it back on track last year. The rules in rallycross were fairly loose at that time, so I don't really see it as a fair comparison: within the confines of rallying the 6R4 was at a disadvantage. 6R4 is still super cool though!

Some of the modified hillclimb Group B cars are stupidly fast, sure I have read that the Bruno Ianniello Delta S4 has been clocked at close to (or even sub) two second 0-60 times!

Happy RWD Live Stream day one and all! If you've all been good, I hope the ghost of Bjorn Waldegard paid everyone a visit in the night to deliver the traditional lump of gravel.
