It's interesting that in the Forza games (Motorsport and Horizon) you can have any official livery there ever was using the editor or downloading someone else's. What happens with the licensing there?

I imagine that falls under the same category as downloading a mod from RaceDepartment and adding it to your game files? Although it's slightly different as in Forza it's offered in game, but I don't think that's the intended use of the livery creator, I dunno

Interesting

Forza (or Gran Turismo) have a much bigger budget. They maybe pay a lot extra for the license to make it able to do complete different graphics on the car.

Btw the fake liveries can look ok or even cool in DiRT Rally 2.0 if they do some effort in it (and not look at the numberplates 😛 )

Ohlins Impreza (i think is also on a RX2) is one of the liveries i really.
Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Ohlins impreza DiRT Rally 2.0

Also this Focus 2007 lviery is quite ok (also the only normal livery, and was also already in D4):

Also the Snap-On black/orange livery is quite cool. Same design as the Ohlins, but with a different touch:

Also this Pug Rx livery is ok
image.png.dbf0105f07491e2df080d2254c6b1812.png

Thrustmaster livery (I also think is on a few others)

And some nice R5

Overall there are some ok fictional liveries, but there are more crappy plain liveries compared to the few ok fictional liveries.

It has nothing to do with licensing as tobacco and alcohol decals abound in GT Sport. I have scoured the documentation looking for clues as to how it's handled but all I can find is a warning that illegal and offensive decals will be removed. And from experience I know this to be true. PD is active in removing offensive content. However, real-world stuff like old liveries with tobacco and alcohol are never taken down. It must have something to do with the fact that they are user-made and falls into "Any depiction or recreation of real world locations, entities, businesses, or organizations is not intended to be or imply any sponsorship or endorsement of this game by such party or parties. " Just look at some of these examples. There's even some Codies-themed stuff there:

Regarding liveries, I’m not going to talk fine detail about licensing here, but user-generated content and official content are two different things. Also, who knows what kind of agreements there are between Microsoft/Sony and the license-holders; they may very well be different to what we have at Codemasters and I’m not going to be the one to make a guess here.

I honestly really don't mind fictional liveries but I do expect some quality designed liveries and not liveries that take half an hour each to create. Liveries are important for me personally and for quite a few others as well. I don't drive cars with poor quality liveries and only pick those with official liveries in one way or another which is usually the first one for most. Or I use one of my own creations or one of another content creator.

As is mentioned before, user generated liveries are unofficial so in a way allowed. However, game devs are not allowed to put those tobacco and liquor brands on the cars for legal reasons. That's legislation for you. I do wonder if there are exceptions such as the iconic liveries. You still see those brands on rally cars in historic rallying or liveries based on some of those brand's colour scheme.

Most of these examples are from the Ypres Historic Rally 2019:

1. Bastos-livery where the Bastos-logo isn't altered.

2. Bastos-livery where the O is changed to a Q.

3. Belga-livery where Belga is replaced by Markey.rba_233.thumb.jpg.50568691daed93b16efc3cd89beb4ab4.jpg

Livery based on the Martini colour scheme.

I just don't get the livery thing. How can you get all official liverys ect in Asseto Corsa official or mods when the company

was very small. If we are allowed mod ones then let the modders do their stuff like in Dirt Rally. This could kill the game

for a lot of people. The game is brilliant but this livery thing is spoiling it. Fingers crossed this gets sorted soon.

Well, what can I say? Codies, you've outdone yourselves once again. Amazing job on the Porsche and the Lancia, I was really looking forward to these cars finally coming to the game, and what an amazing class the Group B RWD has become. One of my favorites for sure. So much fun, bravo! 👏 😍

911 suona AMAAAAAZING

really a great job, fabulous sound. as the real counterpart. I follow the historic European championship a lot. it's a beautiful new entry, I was also looking forward to the Lancia 037

3. Livrea Belga in cui Belga viene sostituita da Markey.rba_233.thumb.jpg.50568691daed93b16efc3cd89beb4ab4.jpg

Livrea riguarda sulla combinazione di colori Martini.

Half an hour is an overkill, with D4's livery editor it would take a lot less to make them... In half an hour I could manage to do better liveries back then, and I remember someone created a whole three-pages PDF with awesome liveries for the Fiesta R5 all created with the same editor

I'd suggest that it probably took them a long time to get the liveries set up in the Dirt 4 livery editor - could be wrong, but that probably took more work than designing the liveries flat for Codemasters.

That said, having realised how ACC is doing the same 'templated' livery editor, I could be wrong on that front. Starting to get to the point where I add 'Dirt 4 style livery editor' to my DR2 wishlist...

The DiRT 4 style editor was pretty ok. Though it was very limited.

Although i don't have F1 2019, it seems a step forward from (although it is all on one and the same car).

Hoonigan / Bakkerud ?
image.thumb.png.d0b164a802f6aaf9667e98ea1e93899b.png

I think DiRT 4 lacked of variations in patterns. But if you make the combination of DiRT 4 and the F1 2019 editor, i think you have quite a good editor (although completly free like in Gran Turismo, Forza, iRacing, rFactor, etc will still be better)

But I think if go for the D4/F12019 editor, than need:
- a lot of different variations of design lay-outs/patters
- can choose for different color style/patterns, but also type of color style like chrome, flat, matte, standard, etc.
- can choose for real and fake logos

Ofcourse this is also all free play / online / my team.

For career i would do it different, because as in real the colors depends on your sponsor contract. That's why i also think Career should have been totally different. But for how the concept of how DR2.0 now is, i think a D4/F12019 stule of editor would be a good addition.

Or avoid wasting more time on that and just unlock the liveries. Work on rallies, stages and cars instead.

I dunno, I would like a livery editor like D4's (but with more patterns) – I don't have the artistic skills to make nice custom liveries from scratch, so a template-based system like D4's suits me much better.

That said, I still would like it if they allowed us to use custom liveries on DLC cars like they do for base ones.

Well like on other platforms you can use others their paints if your skills are not good enough.
F.e. for iRacing there is a full community/platform for it:
https://www.tradingpaints.com/showroom/filter/from=everyone,sort=popular,ad=DESC,search=subaru,pos=0
https://www.tradingpaints.com/showroom/filter/from=everyone,sort=popular,ad=DESC,search=Beetle,pos=48

Even interesting is that the iRacing put the numberplates/numbers automatically on it. So the GRC numberplates and numbers have been put automatically on it. So everyone races with the same numberplate, which makes it more realistic looking. Next to that I can understand that if somethings is organised or sponsored by a partner from Codemasters, you could use part of the numberplate for promotional material. So if f.e. Thrustmaster is the sponsor of a official DiRT rally championship, it could come automatically on the numberplate. But maybe also the sindscreen banner can be used for this. In WRC maybe the name of the driver will be put on, but maybe on a rallycar the Thrustmaster name will be showen. So a nice way for giving the sponsor promotion.
