I'd have fingers crossed for S2000s, but that would seem unlikely or I suspect the Fiat and Peugeot models from DiRT 3 would have made an appearance by now.
They'd need to get a Honda licence :P

Well, it appears people are enjoying my speculation on the new cars, so here's some further, more detailed, speculation on the new cars.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Rallycross is done and Hillclimb is unlikely to get any new cars considering Codemasters' plan I said on my last post. DiRT Rally is heading to become the most rally focused game of the franchise yet and I believe that, that is what the last 3 updates will be all about: to deliver that final amount of rally content never before seen on DiRT.

On what these cars may be, there are plenty of ideas and tips given away by the developers, but in my personal opinion, the new cars will be from manufacturers who have already joined the title, with only one new license to be revealed at best. We know the office wall of cars but we also know that the wall is not definitive but rather a reference of what Codies are looking for. However, some cars like the Mazda and the Toyota are out already. Therefore, new cars are likely to come from existing licenses, manufacturers that are already present such as: Ford, Peugeot, Subaru, Citroën/DS Automobiles and Volkswagen. Let me go into more detail about each one of those.

Ford:

I think we have much to see from this manufacturer. The 2001 Ford Focus as well as the 2006 Focus RS appear to be on their way. There's also M-Sport's newest cars like the Fiesta WRC 2015 and the R5, as well as the possibility of a 2WD Fiesta also joining the fray (R2 spec, most likely).

Peugeot:

Codemastes appear to have a nice relationship with these folks, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the 206 WRC joining its 2001 competition and modern Lion racers like the, very popular amongst rally competitors, 208 R2 and 208 T16 to make an appearance. I think the 307 that is on the office wall will stay on the wall as it is not what one would consider a success.

Subaru:

2001 Subaru Impreza WRC and then a recent Group N one, possibly from JRM.

Citroën/DS Automobiles:

Yes, they had to license that Citroën DS3 WRX separately, the FIA World Rallycross license does NOT grant you the cars because World RX doesn't own the rights to them. So, maybe, just maybe, we have the DS3 WRC on its way, the R5 could be following behind and, last but not least, the C4 WRC, the car with which Loeb won most of his titles with (a total of 4).

Volkswagen:

Another brand licensed for the Rallycross content, if VW Motorsports' WRX car is in, the Polo R, considering its popularity and recent success, is almost a given.

Bonus Manufacturer (Mitsubishi):

The 2001 Lancer VI WRC has been teased. And Group N wouldn't be the same without and Evo. That being said, I think the teaser with the Lancer was for the country, not the car, therefore I believe than an Evo X R4 will be all we will get from Mitsubishi.

And I'll stop before my head starts hurting from thinking too much about what is most likely.

Off the wall question but Gossip related.  Was David Darling, Codemasters former owner and founder, a fan of Rally?  Maybe @KickUp could answer this?

The last time we heard about the number of cars in production, it was "over 15" and that value included the new rallycross cars. So take the 6 rallycross cars out of there and you have 9 or, to be more precise since the value is over 15, around 11-12 cars for rally (I know there's still hillclimb, but I don't see new stuff coming to over there, considering they plan to make all rally cars usable in hillclimb too). Now, it's likely the number of cars in the production pipeline has increased since then, so we could actually be looking at something like 15-16 new cars at this point.
That seems like some pretty generous speculation! How is it likely the number of cars in the pipeline has increased? (Genuinely curious.)

I'm going with a much more conservative guess (leaving room to be pleasantly surprised). Paul has talked about aiming for 40 cars total by release. There are 31 now, plus there should have been two Renaults; so that's seven cars left. Finland will have two cars, Modern Masters and Sweden will each have "cars" plural, so you can bet on at least two cars each. So I'm looking at something like 6-7 new cars you can count on (not including the Renaults). Maybe more but who knows.

Licensing negotiations can go all the way to the end. Do you think the licensing department just stopped trying 4 months before release? I think they definitely continue. Also, consider this is an Early Access title, expected to release in November, but nothing's stopping them from prolonging EA if they feel the game needs it, like for more content.

I predict a rally school much like the one in Colin McRae Rally, with the original sound files from the man himself.

Thats unfortunately impossible due to obvious reasons but some lines from Nicky Grist will do it.

I did say original sound "files", not original voice source. ;)

I think Lee mentioned there was at least 15 cars in production right before the RX cars was released.

Yeah, that's still on track for ~40 total. I was just wondering if warpengage has a source for even more cars being worked on ("Now, it's likely the number of cars in the production pipeline has increased since then"). Not throwing shade, I'm genuinely curious.

Would it be reasonable to guess that Colin McRae car(s) would release with Sweden, because of Collins Crest in his honor?

Who said that the "Modern Masters" pack cars are rally cars? Might also be modern hill climb cars.

Car wishlits – We’re pretty confident that we have some of the most iconic rally cars rally cars already and we have over 15 more on the assembly line (all of which you’ve been asking for). For some cars though licensing is ultimately what kills the possibility of their inclusion. The Tuthill Porsche for a prime example, we’ve had a lot of requests for that but another publisher holds the exclusive rights to Porsche cars and it’s the similar for a few others. It’s also down to the car manufacturers – not all of them want to be in a rally game.

I never said I had a definite source for more cars being worked on, I just say it's likely because, to me, it makes sense with the updates and classes that appear to be on their way. Now, of course, I could be wrong. This is, after all, a speculation thread, that's why I said "likely" as in probable, but not certain.

I don't think so, because then the update would talk about "classes", in plural, rather than just a class. Modern Hillclimb and Modern Rally a pretty different from each other. But again, disclaimer, speculations, could be wrong.

Right, and subtract the six rallycross cars that came out and the two Renaults that didn't, and that leaves seven (well, 'over seven') cars left. So I'm curious how you guess 17 cars are left

Cool, thanks for clearing that up! I'll stick with my guess of seven cars then, and secretly hope your guess of 17 is closer. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst minimum.

Plot twist:Lee is a double agent for Codemasters.Manages to forge sublicensing contracts from EA to Codies and Tuthill Porsche plus 911SC plus 959 make a triumphant appereance in Dirt Rally...  :p

It's weird speculating on things with at least some facts
If you take all the letters in Lee's posts, rearrange some of them, and discard the overwhelming majority of them, they spell: "Toyota Mirai hydrogen-powered zero car confirmed for Dirt Rally". :o

It's even weirder when you know some of the speculation is indeed fact. ;)
