Can't wait to see whether or not things are actually gonna change

Probably already mentioned but I'm hoping this one will be built using their brand new ego engine (F1 2015), which we haven't seen yet.  I guess if its for the aging consoles again, it will be the same tired old engine, and expect the usual compromises in the visual department..

Honestly in terms of just visuals, i dont think the DiRT 2 or 3 have much in the way of compromises, on PC at least. I mean yes the car models are slightly low poly compared to modern titles, but environments look fantastic at 1080p60. The art styles are both class leading imo.

Dont get me wrong, im hoping its on a new engine too, but its not going to magically create a better looking game. Its the more advanced physics, such as more accurately simulating diffs etc, that i think will be the benefit of a new engine.

They already dialed back the windscreen water/mud splash effect from Dirt 2 to Dirt 3, obviously to add something else for the more resource limited console versions.  I think it is this area, or particle effects in general which really needs an overhaul in terms of how the cars react with the environments.  Things like mud and water actually spinning around the tyres and flicking over the body work would be impressive to see.  As would real time weather effects.

When was the last time there was so much DiRTy chatter going about? I'd say quite a while...

So we've got @JonTucker‌ Project Manager declaring a #DiRTCharter, @justbiglee getting so excited that his finger slips onto '4' when typing a tweet and now he's seemingly not allowed to use the internet, @Britpoint‌ is now working on something DIFFerent.

Last time was during E3, I got roped into that one big time.  Ain't gonna get me this time.

What if @justbiglee really just wanted to set up a 4 prize prize giveaway with a big dose of tease.. And it turned into an unwanted expectations bonanza...

Alternatively an announcement is imminent ;)

They have been playing this mindgame for months on now. I can't gather the energy to get excited anymore. Send me a mail when the thing is out! |-O  (yawn smileyface)

I honestly can't see another DiRT popping up until around this time next year. Nothing will be announced at the moment as Codies want to advertise (not that they are) F1, then next gen F1, then DiRT 4. I hope I'm wrong as a new DiRT would be great but I'm not optimistic that we will hear anything about DiRT 4 for another 10-12 months.

I have to be honest and say I'm finding the prolonged teasing a bit irritating now. I'm hoping the mention in mainstream media means we might actually see something solid soon.

I agree, things have pulled out a little too long now. Let's see if something happens soon.

Must admit I only came across speculation/mention of it on a main stream site the other day so came on here to have a look.  You'd have to presume if they've being doing all the hints nonsense for a while, they must feel they have something pretty special on their hands, rather than a 'business as usual' release like F1 2014.

@joepineapples‌

I would have to imagine so.  I don't follow Grid or F1 forums a close, not enough time, but I don't think they would string us along if it weren't a big effort for them.

I only imagine it's been stretched out a bit now is because it may have missed a release date.  There are a few more months left to the year, so who knows.

@GentleNameMVB‌

Here is a wild theory, the 'Next Gen' F1 game that is coming out next year, talked only about F1.  I haven't re read it, but could it be that they are using different engines as @justbiglee‌ hinted at?  Therefore A DiRT release is it's own Next Gen engine that could be released before F1?

writing this at lunch on my phone, hope I make these posts clear.

@joepineapples‌ I agree that the water splash wasbetter in DiRT 2, and dust trails seemed Beyer in GRID 2, even though it's a tarmac based Game. But it's also true that neither of those games pushed the ego engine anywhere near it's limits, as I found out after some xml tweaking, do there'sstill room for improvement on this very engine.

If the next game is next gen, though, which I hope it is, then I would expect the improved simulation you mentioned, real time weather, and a MUCH larger volume of particles and way longer trails. Even if it isn't that large to begin with, I would hope the engine is at least capable and tweakable to improve trails and maybe render endlessly. WRC 4 was also able render infinitely.

Great job getting the paragraph spacing working on mobile, @justbiglee‌ (finally). Hopefully you can get some of the other formatting options here soon? Thanks.

SOMETIMES I think they all just like to chatter on twiter to much, not really leaving it for 'us' to figure out, just a bunch of devs having fun with each other.  The 5 steps or goals, @JonTucker‌  tweeted a couple of days ago, looks like it was a pact that they all signed  and agreed to meet.  Nothing to really note here.  Now @mrharvyparker is just toying with us, I think he is more notorious than Lee with his cryptic clues, he just takes his right to the edge, I wouldn't trust him at all.

All in all a pretty clueless day.

Wonder how many potential DiRT4 UK sales Kris Meeke has just binned in the wall, and how many Neuville has just won in Belgium.

Nowadays rally cars look horrible, compared to the golden era from the eighties to more or less 2005. Since then WRC championship has indeed s***** hard.

Hope Dirt4 allow us to, not only play on proper narrow and lengthy point to point rally stages, but also doing so on those beautiful and already legendary cars, like the old impreza, the escort cosworth, celica, MG, Mitsubishi lancer, focus, group B, etc

I have to say the same, power is incredible, but cars look a little stale now days.  Mostly since WRC is dominated so much by Ford, Citron and Peugeot.  But maybe is was the same back then too.

Sorry but I've got to disagree. I think the cars look absolutely fantastic, particularly the Polo. They look even better in Tarmac spec too!  The cars are 'stable' as such, but that's purely down to the suspension technology which is absolutely incredible. The cars are also quicker than Group B cars over a rally stage, and just as spectacular. If they weren't I wouldn't have gone to Monte Carlo or Sardinia this year, and be in the process of  booking a trip to Sweden for next years WRC rally.

I adore the brutality of modern WRC cars, with their anti-lag, crazy acceleration and super trick suspensions, but i have to agree that they are all just generic hatchbacks with bodykits, instead of the variety of shapes there used to be. (But they still look mad in tarmac spec  )

I personally love this years cars in particular, they all look awesome.

Rally Deutschland has proved that nothing needs changing in the WRC other than better promotion. F1= same petty rivalry that's been happening all year, one incident dominating headlines. WRC = drama, action, heartbreak, sportsmanship, a new winner, personal best performances from a number of drivers, hardly any headlines/coverage

I wasn't a fan of the new 1.6L WRCars when they first proposed the change, but they have won me over.

As quick as the last of the 2.0L WRCars were, I found them rather clinical to watch. The smaller 1.6L cars seem to move around a lot more, look a lot more skittish on the limit and, from the onboards, look like they are working the drivers harder, which is what we all want to see,

I find the DS3 and i20 WRCars a little underwhelming to look at, but both the Fiesta and Polo look great in my opinion. My biggest gripe with the current WRCars is how little they share in common with the showroom model, but at least Ford and VW do produce performance models that give a nod to the rally cars.

I love the monsters of Group B - and there is no doubt they are spectacular to watch on the limit - but I have as much love for the modern WRCars.

I think some of us are starting to show our age  :\

I'll be happy as long as there is a mix of old an new.  But this all is better taken over the WISHLIST thread since we are getting off topic from RUMORS :)

Speaking of, its been a little quiet over the past week.  There was some buzz on Thursday, but it was pretty diluted to be good rumors.

Then again, a few haven mentioned they are getting impatient with all the rumors and its just getting old now.  I guess the good thing is that they are still dropping rumors so progress is being made toward the eventual announcement.

Good point! I was at the British Rallycross Championship at the start of the week. Had been hoping I might see some Codemasters (specifically David Binks) activity with Loheac pending, but not a sign. Did see a crapload of rain though!
