DiRTy Gossip

Recommended Posts

I'm not teasing, I'm just stating what I have been told as every other day I see on here 'I hope we get a Toyota' or 'I hope we get the DS3 WRC' It ain't gonna happen. I know the reasons why, but it certainly isn't my place to say what they are, just know that there won't be any Toyota's and there won't be any more Citroens appearing.
Yeah, it's been said so many times. There are reasons which a few of us know, but we can't say. They just aren't going to be in dirt rally unless something amazing happens at Toyota and Citroen's end.

Going off topic here, but didn't want to start a new thread. For anyone interested here's a video of me on the Brands Hatch stages this weekend, struggling in the rain on the wrong tyres, chasing Escorts and very nearly losing it through Graham Hill bend on the final lap!

Yes, same as the one in my avatar, almost standard 1.4l, managed to finish 3rd in class, and even got 19th fastest time on stage 7!

Bugger! I didn't know you were entered for that: I'd have made more of an effort to get there if I'd known you were driving!

You have to admit that this mysterous thing doesn't help either. If it is not a exclusivity problem, which in the worse case scenario would be temporal, or a budget problem, in that case if Dirt Rally sells well there is always a possibility. Then, what? Someone in CM got violent with Toyota or Citröen chiefs? I don't know, is quite difficult to understand. In business world is always a money or money problem. Either you don't pay enough for our license or another has paid more.

You just only say: "believe me, it's not going to happen". Ok, I can believe you but don't expect people stop asking if there is no a clear reason why.

Only co driving still, once I've left uni and working full time, I'll hopefully make the shift!

What I'm saying is, if you know why but can't say, then it's probably better not to say you have the knowledge in the first place.

It just adds an additional element of intrigue that the info has been shared with anyone, which is going to make people talk even more about what those reasons might be, the opposite of what you're trying to achieve.

Well, people keep either saying they want the cars, or are randomly guessing why they aren't there, when it's been said many times to just forget about those particular licenses

Not sure if this is a diversion, but what part of Pikes Peak is this?  I can't recall.

Im just stabbing in the dark that this could hint at full gravel PP

Maybe Toyota wanted the car to be the best in its category or something (accusations levelled at Ferrari in Assetto Corsa at certain tracks when the McLaren P1's rear wing seems locked in position, or something), and Codemasters didn't want that?

P.S. I just bought SLRE for my complete PC Rally game collection. It's the first game to model the Great Orme stage correctly, and I've driven down there in real life! Previous WRC games just had a bit of it, and WRC5 has some Lord Of The Rings fantasy version with a big derelict castle at the end, which is not there in real life. It's like they looked at a few pictures of it online and said "that'll do!"

I think you could be right on this because I dont think that part is paved in the current version. At least it doesnt look familiar to me.

Wow this would be epic! But will they finally let us race all cars types up the mountain?

So what we're saying here is that although that section already appears to be gravel currently, that they're done a graphics pass, *and* the whole posting itself appears to be a big hint that we're getting full gravel.

What they're saying is that CM posted a part of PP that is on gravel even on the current mixed version so that it isn't obvious that the all gravel PP is coming, but at the same time they put that sign in the view so that Gossipers can come to a conclusion that the all gravel PP is indeed coming.

Don't worry if what I said doesn't make much sense, I'm still trying to figure out what I've written there xD

Is there some reason the background looks more defined in the twitter post?  Or is that because the screenshot is from the glass distorting in the screenshot?

Dev free camera + Photoshop (and possibly downsampling the image or supersampling the rendering in-game)

Photoshop as in slight vibrance, saturation, contrast etc. changes. Not much, but enough to make a difference. You know, PR material has to look especially good after all.

My only question to these non-budget and/or exclusivity related licenses not being in DiRT - Are the reasons for them not being in DiRT properly logical? It feels weird to me that it isnt Exclusivity or Budget preventing the cars being in the game. I know i won't learn the actual reasons anytime soon, probably for a whole decade, but ... Do their arguments make sense? The only thing i can ask, really.

That's cool, I've done it as a competitive stage quite a few times, and it's very fast and technical. One important thing is the kerbs, those are absolute wheel killers, so I hope those are done properly e.g hitting them damages suspension or wheel or causes a puncture

I think the tweet is just a bit of a hint about full gravel pikes peak, pretty much aimed at us (the gossipers) to figure out

This. If it's an actual proper reason, ok, cool (well... not really, but you get my point). But if it's something along the lines of "Because reasons" then... *facepalm*

I agree with RD above, it's a 'spoiler alert'' pic of PP with gravel, it's evidently updated, but is a portion of the current PP that is gravel already.  @urgaffel has already said he makes updates/passes etc on things a lot.

If that's the same location, there's a more apparent difference.

The textures. They are much less arid. It doesn't just look like a different year, but a different season.
Adding a few bits of roadside detail, trees, signs, etc is one thing.

Completely different textures is another one all together.
If anything is happening with the console version, I'd be expecting the texture resolution will be reduced in some areas.
While they can certainly support 4K textures, I can't really see the PS4, nevermind the XB1, being able to run DiRT Rally at 60fps with a whole lot of 4K textures going on. They just don't have the bandwidth.

But I really can't see CM completely redrawing the textures just as part of the porting process.

Just photoshop tweaking? While I kinda doubt CM would use Photoshop heavily (it always bites developers in the rear end), the immediate trackside colours look pretty similar between both pictures. It's just the background mountains that looks so different.
