@KickUp one more thing, what's the limit of stages per event on the freeplay mode?
I believe it's 12 stages per event and 12 events per championship. (Because it fitted nicely on the screen)

Well on one of the gameplays posted, there was 6 event slots and 12 stages slots, for a moment I thought the "Mystery" location could mean something and not because "it fitted nicely on the screen". B)
That's 6 location choices (including Mystery). When you set up your championship I believe you can choose up to 12 rounds.
The big question is, what is the Mystery location? A sixth one or a random one? :o
Its

a

Mystery!!!!!
Is it a mystery?
I've heard that if you choose the mystery option it actually loads up an emulator and you end up playing Toca 2!

@KickUp Thank you for being so transparent about these things! There are few devs who are as open about what is being changed/improved as you guys have been, and fewer still would have the guts to admit what things aren't going to make it into an upcoming game! You guys are really setting a model for community involvement and interaction, and you don't get nearly enough recognition for it.

Part durability translates into our used car market, so you can choose to buy a **** box that needs all its parts replacing or a totally rebuilt car ready to race (if you can find one).
Holy heck, when you said there'd be a career mode, I didn't think it went that deep! So you're actually making choices when buying a car now, instead of just checking it off on the list? Does the difficulty affect how much the cars cost or how easy it is to get nice ones (so higher difficulties mean you have to make compromises when buying)?
No it won't affect the cost

How is damage repairs being handled this time? Still with a percentage bar where each % increment is a certain amount of time? Or will you have to replace certain unrepairable parts such as tires, as you wouldn't be able to repair a tire?
Can't give you a straight answer but I'm pretty sure the percentage system is gone. You will probably have to change parts or try to "quickfix" them with the risk of later failure. This is speculation upon whats been said and seen. I guess @Hatward can answer you if he feel like it ;)
It's quick fix, repair or replace. Not all parts can be replaced. The level of repair will determine the likelihood of that part failing later on. The time taken will depend on your crew.

Now THIS is pure gold ladies and gentlemen! Sounds epic!

I feel kinda bad for asking too many questions as you have better things to do, but have anything been done to gear changes? Some were way too slow in DR. H-shift with clutch was by far the fastest in many cars. I'd love to be able to shift as fast without clutch on cars with dogboxes.
I quite like this slowness, so there is a reason to play with the shifter.

This thread has turned into Paul's Q&A :D Incredible that he's willing to answer our questions even though it's weekend!

@KickUp since you confirmed that the Evo X R4 is going to be in DiRT 4, have you guys fixed the interior of it so it's LHD with proper Motec display etc.? Also, hopefully it will have proper torque curve and stuff like that so it doesn't rev something like 7500rpm :) In real life they change gears at around 5000-5500rpm.
I build these engines for a living, red line is 7500 stock, and depending on turbo, als setup, etc... they will make power out past 10,500rpm.

Hell, my turbo doesn't even spool till 4300.

@KickUp.  I would just like to underline Roger Davies's comments and thank you for being on here interacting with us late on a Saturday night and handling our queries in your own time, beyond the call of duty Sir ! and appreciated. I don't want to sound like a stuck record but I asked on here yesterday if we are finally going to get a period works Group 4 Escort RS1800 ? This iconic and much loved car rightly deserves its place in D4.

@KickUp.  Nice to see you back here on a Sunday, great stuff !  I have posted twice over this weekend with a question on the Mk2 Escort, it appears you wont be drawn on it so one last try while your'e about, can you comment on giving us a Group 4 RS1800  in D4?

Sadly not
Sadly not, meaning cant comment or the RS1800 is not going to happen ?

A bit of both but let's just say it's very hard to convince people that we need another Mk2 Escort.
@KickUp. Thanks for the reply, very disappointing. While I have got your attention, perhaps I can offer this as a case to convince people. You don't need another Mk 2, what you need is a proper works Mk2. The current in game Mk2 is a port over from the earlier series. It is modeled on a one off car the was built for Colin M by DJM Motorsport in 2004. Compared to the period Boreham and Sutton works RS1800's it is a Frankenstein hybrid with IRS, carbon fiber interior, plastic windows, hideous roof scoop, Millington engine, oversize wheels and all sorts of weird and wonderful mods, the only resemblance to the works cars is shape and name. In DR it was put in the 70's class where it does not belong. It is a one off car so belongs in the "Open Class" The only Mk2 that has a rightful place in the 70's or 80's class is a period Group 4 works RS1800 with a BDA on Webbers. It was driven by the greatest names in the golden years Rallying and Vatanen won the world championship in it in 1981.  It has to be the most Iconic, most successful and loved rally car of all time and still winning rallies around the world today. It is only right and proper that Codies pay tribute to its success and presence today by creating an accurate period model for D4. I understand why the current car is there, we corresponded on it privately in July last year. I do find it quite unbelievable that this has been overlooked and a proper RS1800 is not to be included in D4, instead we get trucks and buggies !!?? This car more than any other deserves a place in D4 to replace the awful current  Mk2 offering. Rant over, thanks for listening Paul.

I get it.  It's not me you need to convince though  :#

Oooh, do tell who I need to convince and I will be on my way with biscuits and a gift of life membership to Raymond's Review bar, if that doesn't work, the big stick comes out !

If you can't point me in the right direction, will you kindly pass on my comments to those that we need to get thinking right ?

Thank you for taking our questions and being here on a Sunday, a rare treat for all of us to enjoy such interaction with the top man.

Still slow with a shifter... slower than my 220k mile subaru.

@KickUp
This weekend I have been checking Awesome more than I have in a long while.  I think this is the game I have always wanted.  DR was great, but the polish and detail on D4 is well.. Awesome!  Thanks, Paul.. again :)

And my personal big question to Paul

Did you change anything regards Keyboard driving? :D DiRT Rally is in a good place, so i kinda hope it wasn't, but maybe some options are added to tweak anything someone else might not like.

As far as I know we have left the keyboard driving no as it was.

Yeah, gotta thank Paul for being a real trooper in here this weekend, thank you.

I'm guessing 'no mixed surface' on stage is due to the 'your stage' feature.  I have to assume that there might be something in the future to try and incorporate that?

I went and tried D3 earlier this week, as i found out it had Jen Horsey for co-driver; i hadn't heard her.  Anyway, i'll say that between then and DR, there was a lot of audio work done....

I ran a stage with the 6R4 and i could barely hear her, no comm system apparent, i have been spoiled by the audio system being tied into the physics system as it is in DR.

Any changes or improvements to the audio<>physics connection in D4?

****I got D3 with a gfx card not long after release, played about a hour with a friend in some gymkhana thing and never loaded it again :(

This +1. Very responsive to messages and patient. More developers should be like him.

@KickUp is a legend

Yeah, most here weren't jumping up and down following the initial 'big release'

Following a Roadbook by him, Christina & Hatward, it's fair to say none of the doubters don't have a full DiRT 4 horn!

Yet, here he is, councilling is forum worriers.

If that doesn't tell you the brand is in safe hands, then I don't know what would

Ooooh, i totally forgot!!!!!

Has the 'slamming down the gears' braking "cheat" been fixed?   It seems to be very apparent that if you want more braking, slam the gears down hard, no noticeable repercussions in DR :(

You build Evo X R4 engines for a living? Hmm, weird. I've seen and heard lots of Evo X R4's in real life and it's quite clear that they're not revving nearly as much as in DiRT Rally. Take a look at this video for example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yEyEiO5lEw

The Evo X R4 should be driven with torque due to the nature of its engine in R4 spec. I know that there are some hill climb and rallycross Evo X's that easily rev over 7500rpm, but that's due to completely different rules. But watching that video you can quite clearly see how "wrong" the Evo X is in DiRT Rally so that's why I hope it would be more accurate in DiRT 4 :)

Well, with the odd unlikelihood of running trucks and buggies on rally stages, they are then just relegated to the 3 stadiums? There's no fancy your route or whatever?
Sad face.

What's really cool is, on PC, the tiles could be released & selectable manually.  If you had the time to, you could recreate virtually any 'route' you choose.  Visuals might be a different story but the possibilities are endless!

RSRBR who??

Btw @KickUp, first thank you for being a nice man and a good community man. Thank God because we didnt need a LordCodies here. My question is... How can i get some D4 logos for my helmet and racecar?

Maybe they could send you the file so you could make a big paint template.

Any hints about the career mode's "create your driver"? @urgaffel hinted at customizable racing suits. Customizable face or gender? Can we make our own Michèle Mouton or Nasser Al-Attiyah? Player name and flag on the window?

I seriously can't wait to hear more about the career mode. Sounds way more promising than anything previously in the series. With the the ability to create and manage your own team, I'm getting GRID vibes; good ones.
