Did you know that the long-time members of this thread have had a DiRTy Gossip Discord server for a while?

You do now 😉

Be great if it’s right though.  I haven’t had the Xbox on in a year :(

Whats the latest theory on the WRC license?  Is it coming Monday??
Monday is all just wild (but educated and most likely correct) guess work from myself. Pretty sure wrc licence is 100% not with codemasters, but wrc cars have popped up in the crew and Forza Horizon, so anything is possible.

But the main thing is to be ready for the announcement of Dirt: Legends on Monday at 1pm, with a big banner saying ‘Michael was right all along’. I have such a great vision for how the career mode will work out
Why DiRT Legends though? It would be much more marketable to sell the game as DiRT Rally 2.
Why DiRT Rally 2 though? It would be much more marketable to sell the game as DiRT Rally 2.0

I'm just messing around but it would be a nice nod to CMR 2.0, and there were references to a 2.0 on the gossip pizza site

Scanning over the past few posts, I think that Solberg Rally or WRC are still likely.  I’d love it to be DiRT Rally 2, but going by the last release, I think DiRT Rally will be left in retirement to preserve its legend status.  The guys tried to better it with D4 and it just didn’t gel.

Maybe a WRC career or Solberg storyline with DR physics would be quite new & good?  I’d play it...

I'd agree. If it had the wrc licence I would worry the handling would be down tuned a tad. Plus less likely to get lengthy high detailed stages as they'd have to add every round if the wrc. I'm sure Codies could pull it off but it's a hell of an ask. I'd prefer a Dirt rally 2 with regular paid for additional rally events if necessary to get us the content we need.

I’m Really looking forward to Monday now!!!  Might do a bit of rallying this weekend to get back in the saddle
I’ve been back on dirt rally a bit the last few weeks, been really enjoying it! It was so close to perfection, I think the biggest flaw with dirt rally was the stage edges being so lethal. It make an already challenging game so much more punishing. Dirt 4 was a big improvement on that front, allowing you to get away with the odd mistake and take cuts a lot better

I don't think the upcoming game is WRC game because including New Zealand in a game has been teased a lot, so if the game has New Zealand then it won't be a WRC game because New Zealand is not present in the current WRC calendar.
I don't think NZ has been teased unless I've missed something?
@urgaffel has been responsible for most (if not all) of it, for example here:

I really don't like the way most people here hate Your Stage and think it should never come back just because it wasn't perfect in DiRT 4. It's a very powerful tool that can give endless replayability to the game. I could see it come back, better than before, and coupled with a few hand-crafted stages.

It's not hating the ambition. It's hating the execution and early implementation .I love Codies, always have. But I felt cheated by Dirt 4. Your stage was absolutely terrible. The graphical detail was a down turn after DR and the repeating tiles left me feeling short changed. All of the rallies lacked character and ended up being too flowing and felt unrealistic. It isn't jumping on a hate bandwagon, for me as a rally fan buying a rally game on the basis of DR's quality I'm allowed to be extremely disappointed and wary of its re-implementation

The problem with your stage is that it cant work on its own in the state it's in. But if it was in addition to real stages it would be perfectly fine.

And your stage was not bumpy enough and lacked any good jumps. which made the physics perhaps seem worse than they actually were
Really? I thought Olathe actual surface was bumpier than fort rally. In terms of actual large bumps/jumps then yeah it did lack them a bit. The only trouble is fitting them in a randomly generated stage, you don’t want a Wales stage to have 10 huge jumps in it for example

The problem was for me that it never ever felt like a real rally stage. It lacked that character and variety in terrain/landmarks corner severity variation. It felt just bad. Maybe it was because dirt rallies stages were so good. But I felt that wrc 7s stages were also far superior to dirt 4's

im sure most people dont hate the idea of Your Stage . its just how it was implemented. it really needs to be a lot better when it shows its head again. even then it should not be the main focus of the game. only a side dish. the real events tracks courses are as important as the cars. people asscociate the places with rally. a computer generated stage will never have that kind of soul of a real one. no matter how good it is. i like the idea of your stage but no matter how good it is id pick a real stage over a generated stage every time. im sure we will see it implemented back in a future dirt game when its been made better.

as for what the next title could be maybe its not rally at all. could be dirt showdown 2 :D

You are talking like you are sure they won't use Your Stage in the next game? Are you just guessing or do you actually know something?

Very well put. And if it's another gymkhana freestyle dude bro dirt then I'll just bang my head against a wall for another year.

Another criticism (and I don't mean to hate on Codies) but having a buggy/truck event In there or hill climb with only one or a couple of tracks is just filling a stocking with lumps of coal. They can create a full game full of that stuff and that's fine. But if you make a rally game, surely you want it to be THE BEST rally game there has ever been. Surely that's your aim. I can't stand the "a bit for everyone but not enough for anyone" mentality. It doesn't work, does it?

I finally got my hands on a good but affordable VR headset for sim-racing (a Samsung Odyssey, actually quite hard to get in europe)
And I dusted off the bytes from Dirt Rally, to give it a go. Let's start with the negatives: you really feel, that it was more of a tag-on (PC) feature back then. I need to convert from WMR to SteamVR, then using REVIVE to get it into a Oculus stream (for Oculus Home) and a Revive-injected drt.exe to make it all run. So there are two conversion steps and 4 Software tools involved to play DR on a WMR-Headset.
Additionally there is no adjustment of the FOV in VR and absolutely zero HUD-options (would like a timer and a gear number...). And there is no rear interior modelled in the cars. turning around breaks immersion immediatly.

But oh sweet hell, there is no going back from VR now. Even with the drawbacks, you have a much better judgement of the car your sitting in and how close you can throw it to that roadedge. From now on all sims require VR for me personally. It is actually that much of a game-changer! (I am completely immune to motion-sickness from it though, so no offense to those who are unfortunately not)

Therefor I have to extend my wishlist by an important point: CM, whatever is cooking, I hope it comes with convenient VR from the get-go. SteamVR support would do, as it seems to emerge as the cross-platform middle-ground. Something like the implementation from PCARS 2, thats done really well.
And VR is even more useful for loose surface driving than for circuits. The sense of speed is amazing, if the roads are really narrow. And it feels incredibly natural to just turn your head to look out the side window, whenever the car breaks completely loose, which in turn makes catching oversteer much easier and natural.

By the way, what d'ya all think of the new rally? Seemed to me, turkey is much like greece was, back in the day. Very very tough and rocky. And it got nice scenery right at the sea there in marmaris. Can't say the same about the current politics and their dictator president, but I really like this new Rally Turkey.

Well in the previous 3 DiRT titles ...well okay I didn't get to play the first one... but they had way more content for each discipline. DiRT 4 was absolutely lacking in that regard. A hill climb series with 1 track and 3 cars is frankly a bit crap.

I was still hoping that Your Stage would have a pre made map section of 2x2km or something and it generates a road and maps it to the ground. Trees and shrubbery could be generated procedurally on the side like Far Cray 5 or Horizon Zero Dawn. Then you might have the same sort of corners, but the underlying terrain would be different. The tile system is just more of a random generation and is far more limited.
