Yeah that'd be pretty cool but Kylotonn will maintain the license until Codies' deal starts in 2023, so I think there's no chance we'll see any current WRCar in DR3, but there's a good chance they could include them in their WRC game, I hope they'll include different classes from different eras as well.

Yeah I wonder how that licensing restriction works, which years/specs they aren't allowed to reproduce as long as someone else has the WRC license.  🤔

You can look at our games to get an idea 😉

usually for dirt rally games and another 4 years go by in which case it goes straight to the wrc title😏

Nope, not completely true. There was first just one team (the now DiRT Rally dev team) and they made:
- DiRT Rally 1 (full version was released december 2015)
- DiRT 4 (June 2017)
- DiRT Rally 2.0 (February 2019)
So basically the DiRT Rally dev team developed each 1,5 year a DiRT title.
+ An advantage is that the DiRT Rally dev team not need to make a DiRT Fun title, so instead they can completely focus on the DiRT Rally titles. So I am more than hopeful that big steps can be made.
- A little disadvantage is the current extra challenging situation with generation console switch, covid and also possible engine developent/switch.
- An extra possible little disadvantage is the post launch developement of DLC for DR2.0, which might have moved the timeline for DR3 up.
? One thing we don't know, if the DiRT Rally dev team became smaller and some members went to the DiRT Fun dev team. Maybe @PJTierney could give an reaction about this.

Also the DiRT fun team released about 1,5 year later a game after the release of DiRT Rally 2.0.
- DiRT 5 (November 2020)

So all things considering, A Q4 2021 or Q1 2022 release of DiRT Rally 3 would well be possible.
- It's btw difficult already to build a WRC 2023 game, not knowing exactly what the cars / regulations / locations etc will be. Ofcourse you can do general development of physics and things, but its hard to imagine 4,5 years of development for just a WRC game. Saying that, we have no idea how WRC would be as a DiRT game. A standalone game, or more incorporated into a DiRT Rally title.

Anyone know if the new DiRT will still come (or being considered) out on PS4 ?

I think depends a bit on COVID, deliveries/sales of next gen consoles, and release date of DR3.

I don't have specifics on if the Rally team has increased or decreased.

People come and go all the time of course, gaming industry is a very fluid work environment, but the overall dev team size, that's not something I have a number on or can share really.

As it's been a while since I last posted in this thread (not including the comment above of course), I'd like to add my bit to the 'DR3 wheel of wishes and speculation'. Keep in mind that I love DR and DR2.0 to bits but one can only dream bigger and better. It basically comes down to what my ideal rally simulation title would look like based on what is available at the moment so here we go...

Ooooh, I've decided to divide things up into four categories: 'keep that **** in'-stuff, 'bin it, burn it, hit it with a stick and start from scratch'-stuff, 'just make it better'-stuff and 'brand spanking new baby'-stuff. There won't be much of a logical order within each category because I just put down whatever pops in my mind.

'Keep that **** in'-stuff:

  • Current list of cars
  • Current list of locations/stages
  • Sound quality that gives me an 😱-feeling every single time! (cargasm-emoticon)
  • Visual bliss of the stages and cars
  • VR support deuh! Even though I don't have it (yet), it has to be in there from release.

'Bin it, burn it, hit it with a stick and start from scratch'-stuff:

  • The 'always online Racenet' shizzle and frankly, the Racenet system as a whole
  • Tarmac physics!!!
  • The 'let's lock up those DLC-cars completely with an encryption'-deal (You know how much I hate this one @PJTierney 😛)
  • Regulations/race control aspects of the official Dirt eSports competitions (You should demand onboards for example.)
  • Puddle physics

'Just make it better'-stuff:

  • One extra stage per location and attach two long stages together, maybe three if the engine allows it. And finally add vineyard stages to the Deutschland Rally pretty pretty pretty please.
  • Expanding current car classes with new cars (e.g. Ford 'The Beast' Focus RS WRC '03-'05, Seat Cordoba WRC Evo2 or 3, Renault Megane Maxi Kit Car etc.)
  • Expanding current car classes with older cars in the class (e.g. Lancer Evo II Gr.A, Sierra Cosworth 4x4, Impreza N12, Lancer Evo VII, VIII or XI Gr.N etc.)
  • Replace cars that are less liked by some that are more liked (e.g. Impreza S9 and S12b instead of S7 and S14) <<< Did I use those correctly @tbtstt?
  • Fix some issues with the car models (e.g. suspension still too high on lowest possible setting for some of the cars like the C4 WRC, incorrect tarmac rims on the BMW E30 M3, etc.)
  • Add different (tarmac) rim options for some of the cars but make sure that they were used on the actual car (e.g. Impreza S4, Escort Cosworth Gr.A, Fabia WRC etc.)
  • Gravel and snow physics (there's always room for improvement)
  • Tyre choice which isn't really a choice at the moment as softs are basically always the correct option.
  • Clubs and championships
  • Penalty system for exploits and corner cutting! Still makes me mad seeing some times on the leaderboards or in championships.
  • Pacenote system
  • Better-looking car liveries for the base game because they looked horrendous in DR2.0 for the most part. Or at least make sure we can switch out those bad ones for custom liveries instead of the good and official ones we need to replace nowadays.
  • FFB needs some major improvements as well
  • Stage degredation

'Brand spanking new baby'-stuff:

  • New locations (e.g. Azores Rally) and at least one aditional tarmac rally which is completely different from Spain and Deutschland (e.g. Barum Rally, Ypres or Condroz Rally, any Irish tarmac rally etc.). You get the gist...
  • New car classes (e.g. S1600, S2000, previous gen WRC cars etc.)
  • New version of the stage generator
  • Recce mode --> I've already sent the team a suggestion for a system about 2 years ago.
  • Pacenote mode linked to that recce mode
  • Photo mode
  • Career mode (not for me personally but I know plenty would love a fleshed out career mode)

That's pretty much what I can think of right now. If anything else comes up, I'll edit the post.

I know the tarmac physics are not really at the level of quality we've come to expect from CM physics-wise but that doesn't mean it can't be fun... And I've had plenty of discussions with people saying that you can't slide the RWD cars properly but I really have to disagree there. I've made a video a while back to show off that it is possible (+ show off my skills a bit) and I couldn't resist posting it here as well as in the DR2.0 video thread. The car has the default setup and the soft compound tyres, if I remember correctly.

Mind you, it's a bit of a long intro but definitely worth it. Some people will probably recognise the music...

Fun fact: all the footage is from the same run and I made it to the finish without damaging the car despite driving like a mad lad!

That are some nice additions meantioned above. May I add some Dakar stuff. Those dessert machines are fantastic and if you guys could add some stages in that spirit with a few of those cars (3008DKR I look at you) , it would be much appreciated from my side.

Still on my wishlist:

- Peugeot 504 (sedan and coupé)

- Peugeot 406 F2000

- Peugeot 309 GTI

- Peugeot 505

- Peugeot 208 R4

But besides that, I just had my first expérience in Scotland. Those stages are simply stunning and offer a real challenge 🙂

Good stuff! I don't know who says that you can't get sideways in RWD on tarmac but it is obviously possible. I think Mike Dee also posted a demonstration of how it's done with the Mustang in Spain. I'm no 'no-assists fanatic', everyone should use whatever works for them, but maybe too much TCS prevents the rear end of their car to step out. You don't even need high powered cars either, so I'd always double-check what people claim on the internet.

No. Nonononononononononononononononononono. No!
Don't take my beloved S7 away. I love it almost as much as the S4.
I even have feelings for the S14, didn't used it much compared to others, but still a nice car.

I could deal with replacing the two muscle cars or that french boat, but all other cars must be in at some point.
In base game or at least later as DLC.

Everything else you wrote I'm totally fine with, though I don't believe that an stage generator can be good.
That would take too much effort, I never saw a good one in any game yet.
They should focus on improving the track degeneration system, like finetune it, more different versions etc.

Just my input to your input 😄

Btw. a combination of 3 longs together? That would be crazy.
I would be already more than happy with 2 longs combined.

Admittedly, the S9 and the S12b are the best looking Scoobies (besides the S4 S5, which is the king of scoobies ofc), but how about not getting rid of any Impreza or any cars at all and instead add more Scoobies? ^^  Even the 'french boat' has its place, even if you need lots of energy drinks at hand when you drive it. Heck I even would love to see a 2CV. The current roster is pretty damn good, but there's an infinite number of awesome rally cars out there and huge potential to have the best car list in a rally game ever

But then, after staring at the wall for some time daydreaming, you realise, licenses are expensive and that we could consider ourselves quite lucky if we didn't lose any car at all for the next iteration. Some cars will probably have to make room for some new ones.

Haha I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings... It's not that I don't like the S7 because I most definitely do! As you can see from the designs I've put on the car recently which are some of the most beautiful ones out there. Someone managed to unlock the DLC car encryption more or less so that we as designers can sprinkle some magic...

May be an image of car and roadMay be an image of car and outdoorsMay be an image of car and road

It's just that the car has been in the series for quite some time and if budget doesn't allow to just add more of the beloved Scoobies, then I would rather see two Scoobies we haven't seen in any recent rally game. In that case the S9 and definitely the S12b fit that bill.

I've owned a rumbling Subaru Impreza GT Turbo AWD (grey with gold rims) and it still is the most fun I've had in a car I owned myself. I was keeping an eye out for any 'bang for the buck' hawkeye model but I binned my current car and the repair costs were rather high for that. Well, 'binned it' is a bit harsh. Because of the extremely wet conditions and driving on an unfamiliar dirty country road in complete darkness that morning, things just went wrong. I tapped the brakes slightly when a corner tightened, my front wheels locked up and I just slid wide into a rather deep ditch at 15 to 20 kph.

And you know what, I never really thanked the Dirt Team for what happened after my wheels locked up! If it weren't for DR and DR2.0, I would've hit a traffic sign that was stuck in concrete in the ground. The rally reflexes I've picked up driving DR2.0 at the highest level of competition, just kicked in and I was able to avoid that sign by mere inches. The damage to the car and especially me, could've been a lot worse that particular morning. So @PJTierney, give my thanks to team if you don't mind. And I'm not kidding!

A little reaction on @SRD_SimVansevenant post. A good post and most things I agree. One thing I def not agree is replacing cars. The S14 is one of my favorite cars, so I not want to see it go, also it would be a shame to see such a new model leave what just got a big investment in from the dev team.

But here my list

 CARS

  • Keep current list of cars (return of older cars from previous games, and addition of the new rally cars from DiRT 5, like the Rally-Raid cars, and the Williams Clio for example). No replacing of cars.
  • Add new car models (like the S12b, Group N cars, etc) and classes (as mentioned the Rally-Raid class).
  • Possibility to create a “own” class (maybe kinda filter), so you can create an early 00’s WRC class with the 206 WRC / S7 Impreza / S5 Impreza / Focus, together with the Group A Lancer Evo VI. And/or a filter to allow only certain cars of a class, so you for example only have the older 2000cc cars to choose from, so that people not can choose the C4/S14/Focus07.
  • Return of Multiclass, like that was in DiRT 4.
  • Possible to create full own livery as with for example iRacing, Gran Turismo, ACC, etc.
  • More real licensed liveries and drivers.
  • My preference would be getting more/all 2.0L WRC cars. Please add the WRC05 Lancer. You guys recorded it, and can also scan it at MLL. Also you have multiple Mitsubishi cars, so there should be no issue to get in the game now.

LOCATIONS

  • All locations being kept.
  • Add new locations.
  • Add extra stages to current locations. Extending is also possible, but my preference would be for adding more locations.
  • Introduce a complete weather mode with seasons (like DiRT 5). So it could be possible that locations can be in winter, sprint, summer, autumn. Ofcourse not all locations have 4 seasons. In Greece its quite unlikely it will be snow there.
  • Return of dynamic weather like in DiRT 4. So depending on your start order you will have maybe less or more rain or more problem with fog or that the stage will be more dark for you.
  • Ofcourse this can also be introduced for Rallycross locations, with for example that all RX locations have a night option. I found it very cool in DiRT 3 to do RX at night in the streets of Monaco.
  • Track generator, but for stages it’s very difficult I think, but I think for RX it’s perfect. This idea I posted in my suggestion topic.
  • Create your own stages that being generated based on Maps date (Google Maps, OpenLayers). You can create and share stages, even full rally events online.
  • Pace Notes editor, so you can add/edit/remove notes. Problem though is that it become generic notes and that notes not will be recorded specific for each stage.
  • Pace Notes recorder, if there is a standard set of notes, you can record it with f.e. the microphone on the PS controller. So people can use their own navigator voice in the game.
  • More alternative navigator voices (possible as DLC). Now we only had Phil Mills as English navigator, but a lot of people had difficulty with his voice. It would be cool to have alternatives. In DiRT3/4 I used Jen Horsey, as her female voice I could hear/understand better during driving. This ofcourse could also be paid DLC imo.

PHYSICS

  • Overall improvements.
  • Tarmac physics really need attention. It now seems you are on tarmac with gravel suspensions and gravel tyres.
  • Though RWD physics are quite difficult for controller players.
  • RX Supercars are overpowered and much faster than the real life cars on the course. Mostly has to do with the grip aswell. In rain condition in the game the grip levels and lap times are more similar to dry real lap times.

GAMEPLAY

  • Multiplayer with more options.
  • Multiplayer sessions with more players, preferable to 20 person like with F1 games.
  • New online modes, like time trail clubs. So you can put up a session for a week where people can post their fastest time (3 chances f.e.). This is also connected with the leaderboards.
  • Website with much more information about time trail leaderboards. So you can filter on location/stage/nationality/class/car/etc. Good example is RaceRoom.
  • Racenet (although I have no issues with), not constant connected.
  • Possibility to create a logo/numberplate for a club, so this will be showen ingame on the car.
  • Photomode officialy in the game (also in replay mode).
  • Possibility to limit the amount of tyre sets for a rally event.
  • Possbility to replace parts at service / headquarters, even though they are not damaged (so you can restore to full performance/health). Now you always need to wait tiill you got damage from it to replace it, that's strange.
  • Better AI, especially in RX.
  • Better quality recording output on PlayStation and posting on YouTube.
  • Career should be offline. Separate “online career”.

Yep, you got it @SRD_SimVansevenant!

Definitely agree with your point about the rim options. It is a minor, almost trivial, detail, but something that would really add to the authenticity.

Ha! Although it is fugly I can understand why the S7 has appeal for some, as it was a Championship winning car and driven by a number of favourite drivers. Still can't fathom why the S14 is in there though. It has had minimal success and is, as far as I can tell, the least loved Impreza WRCar.

Still think that late 2.0L WRCar slot should have been taken by the S12B.

The S5 is the one I want to see back in future title(s) the most. Waited a lot of years to see it in a CM rally game, so I really hope it returns (with the right name 😉) in the next game and beyond. As discussed many times before a more appropriate class for it would also be welcomed.

I do agree that adding more cars to go alongside the existing roster would be the best outcome @richie, but I appreciate that licensing costs budget money amd not everyone loves the Subaru WRCar range as much as some of us do...

Given today's International Women's Day, here's a great video on the most badass rally driver of them all:
