Next roadbook will most likely be tomorrow, since this has been the first real work week after the holidays.

I'd wager most of the groundwork for VR was already done with the oculus version for PC, so don't think codies have put too much manpower on the PSVR project. Fun that they opened up for real life codriver since that's been an often requested feature :-)

So PSVR DiRT Rally was what they were working on? The thing they were going to unveil soon? Well it's cool but than means a second title must be a ways away if the team's been busy with this.
I'm convinced that PSVR is just a little sideproject. Fear not.
I'm gonna guess the big thing to make PSVR work is just syncing up the cameras, and removing headshake...then testing of course for bugs.  Its not like they had to re-texture and re-build models for this.  In that case, where the hell's the January ROADBOOK!?!?!?!

I played PSVR dirt rally at codies, it was pretty cool! First ever VR experience, and also the first time I've played Dirt on a wheel since January 2015, but the sensation of VR meant I got the hang of it very quickly! Also, as @Rallycameraman found out, I'm not as good at virtual co-driving as I am at real life co-driving! I put it down to being an Xbox player and having no idea of the PlayStation controller layout!

DiRT Showdown is free on the humble store. The title never really interested me but I can't really say no to a free DiRT game.

yes you can. :o
I think I've downloaded the demo on 360... and from what I remember it's mainly demolition derby right?
Demolition Derby is the only thing i remember, though there are slightly more things than that.

I also got to try it, runs silky smooth and thats after I've been playing it on a Rift for months. Co-driver mode is also really cool, not just reading pace notes out either, its a mode in itself :)
Will that mode be added also to PC version? Just curious.
It's been confirmed on Reddit that it won't be coming to PC. Pretty disappointing to be honest.

A bit too late for that now. Because I'm playing it right now.

And the scariest part is that the gymkhana in this game is kinda fun.
seriously considered flagging this post.

VR is still so useless for sim racing.... this announcement is almost as useless as my post....

We all want PC fixes and features, this could have been saved for the road book instead of kicking us in the teeth with garbage.
I'm inclined to agree. VR is neat... but... eh.
I've been messing around with essentially the Samsung VR thing all day and I've come to 2 conclusions. 1. My eyes hurt and 2. Battlefield 1 surprisingly works the best. Anything else was just... meh. Does make me want to get the 3D kit for my monitor though.

Are you saying you're using the Gear VR to play PC games?

And I disagree completely with EDDSkitz, using a Rift for Dirt Rally and other racing games and flight sims has made the experience infinitely better and I can't go back to the point I've put off buying F1 2016 because it doesnt have VR support. Its next level immersion, only thing missing is the forces acting on you. Can I ask why you think its useless? I think every racing sim in the future should have VR support built in.

First off, it in NO WAY is anything like a real vehicle... I will assure you that.

As for why it's no good for sim racing.... where's your hands?

I'm talking about the people who use Sims to train, not the people who probably don't even own a vehicle, and shouldn't be even talking about realism or immersion.

(Not saying you fit that bill, but plenty do....)

Nobody said it was anything like driving a real vehicle once you have VR.
Just that the amount of immersion is higher because you have the feeling that you sit in the car rather than in front of your screen.
All the rest (e.g. physics, graphics, forces working on the body, etc.) remain the same.

@EDDSkitz, it looks like you have strong negative feelings towards VR, and that's your god given right, but chill.

Well no of course not, I don't think anyone will attest to it being like a real vehicle.

If  even at a basic level you're looking at your hands and not the road/track in front of you, then you aren't doing it properly (you as being people in general).

This still doesnt really explain why you think its completely useless when it is far more useful and immersive than a 2D monitor. Especially in a rally car, being able to look into the direction you want to travel with the car sliding is crucial, you can't do this with a monitor unless you use TrackIR.

I didn't say I was looking at my hands, but much more happens in a race car than what's out the window. Button boxes, brake bias, warning lights, and other items that may or may not be modeled in the particular vehicle.
And I can look out my side windows the same as I do in my Subaru in my sim cockpit by the side monitors. Couple that with a motion platform and you really can't get any closer to actually driving.... period.

And I have nothing against VR, it's awesome for FPS and other "games".

Personally i find VR much more suited to simulators than FPS, the feeling of scale and distance adds a whole different level to it, samsung VR doesnt do it justice at all. Especially flight sims I dont want to do without VR anymore.
Even more stuff going on in the cockpit of an aircraft...
VR doesn't even have any plans on how they are going to make me FEEL the buttons and controls.

If you just want to be a "gamer" I see no problems with VR, however.... lots of us use simulation to keep sharp, or practice, VR is many many years out from being able to compete with a mock cockpit and hard controls.

Wel, yeah obviously! But how are you supposed to bring the cockpit of a plane to life in your living room? Plus each plane is going to be different? This doesn't make sense! And anyway, how does having a screen setup (even if it is a triple) allow you to feel buttons and controls?

What your talking about is purpose built simulators, built for proper companies or motorsport teams. Doesn't really have any relavance to dirt rally coming to PSVR does it?

For Flight Sims your argument is pretty neglegtable... In a Flight-Sim you'd need at least 9 Screens to come even close of the immersion of VR (Talking Fighter and Bomber Aircraft here, with canopees, not those commercial liners.) Because you need to look up very often. You visually follow your target the same you follow the road in cars, but in a planeyou have one more axis. That is much more immersing if you can use that.
(I don't have VR yet, but I've flown in a real Flight-Simulator (The Big ones) once, so I can compare the effect.)

And your argument for cars seems rather limited for my taste, but it's perfectly fine to prefer, what you prefer. But for me, although you can replicate a real cockpit in your sim-cockpit, isn't it the variety you can experience in a simulation one of the most important things? I mean, if I would only be interested in driving one single car, I would rather spend my efforts towards buying the real thing rather than simulating it. Because, If you have the money for big high quality replica sim-racing cockpits, you also have the money to buy or finance a real car or instead get your first step into motorsport.
(Im talking Fanatec pricelevels here, as I doubt you would spend the effort to replicate all the buttons and function while only having a T100 wheel and no shifter.)

Just my opinion though

Lol... plenty of people build their own cockpits and hardware even... console jockeys not need apply.
'Plenty of people'? You're talking about very few people, and a shit tonne of money!

And yes, I play console. If I had the money and space for a gaming pc, wheel and peddle set up and VR, or in your case a life sized model of a fiesta world rally car, then I would. But sadly I don't. I do however compete in real rallying, and have experienced dirt rally in VR, and it was pretty dam good!

Nah, I'm just watching videos and demos. If only phones let you use them as monitors... man that'd be cool. The old Droid Razers had video out and you could use second screen. It kind of sucks too, because the Samsung phones are much higher PPI than Oculus and Vive.
I'm also not against VR development, mostly because it should also encourage devs to start using that ancient 3d technology again for a much cheaper price. It really uses the same features if you think about it.
This is the battlefield video

Uhh, triples... duh. I'm running triples and it's still cheaper than VR. And I have the added bonus of desk space to work with. The best thing for VR is being able to look around, but that also really limits it to cockpit based games. The Vive games are neat, but teleporting everywhere (minus Portal) isn't a brilliant solution to me. People want FPS's'es'esses with this thing and I don't see it happening in any good way other than an on rails shooter.
Also, based on the videos I saw for AC and PCars (Didn't see a whole lot for DiRT)... ehh. Most of the head movement I can do on my triples, and AC sucks for sense of speed... and it's ugly.

Flight sims are also neat to look around in... not sold on them either. Looking around is fairly crucial in things like War Thunder... I guess I just didn't see a huge bonus from the 3d. On another note, other than that battlefield video, nothing seemed that 3d. For example in battlefield there's a large cylindrical windmill, that actually looks cylindrical, most of the other ones didn't look like that, they looked like cardboard cutouts stacked in front of each other.
But hey, if any of you Viveletes or Rifters could record some straight gameplay I'll give it a watch. Most "VR" videos are just watching someone in a headset go "Whooooooaaaaaah."
