F1 2016 on Windows 10: Runtime Error R6025

Recommended Posts

There are a couple other threads about this issue, but none of the suggestions helped.  This error appears when attempting to launch the game:

Brief Stats: MSI Z87-G45, i5 4670, 16GB DDR3 2133, GTX 1070 8GB, Windows 10
dxdiag: https://justpaste.it/111e0

Other people solved this issue by disabling Bitdefender, which I don't use. I did try disabling Windows Defender, which had no effect.

The other solution seems to be to re-install/repair the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables that came with the game. That didn't work, so I uninstalled every version of the Visual C++ redistributable package I had, and only installed the versions that came with F1 2016, but this made no difference. I also tried the latest Visual C++ redistributable from Microsoft with no luck.

I validated the game data via Steam, and tried running Steam as administrator (no idea why I did that.) Running the F1_2016.exe directly (as administrator) produces the same error. I'm not sure what to try next. I have no issues running dozens of other games like Witcher 3, DiRT 3, WoW, Doom, Forza Apex/Horizon 3 etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So, this issue is solved... I guess. I don't know why this worked, but setting the game to run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista SP2 makes it run flawlessly. Why do I have to set it to compatibility mode for a 7.5 year old operating system I don't know, and I don't really care, I'm just glad it works.
