Is no assists faster than driving with assists on?

Recommended Posts

I quite strugle when I turn off TCS and have some difficulties when disabled the ABS and at some tracks even with the TCS on mediums. Is it too difficult to drive no assists with the controller? Is driving no assists really worth it? Should I try developing using a controller trying to drive with the less assists as possible or play with the assists until I buy a wheel?

I think Mastering TC off  is quicker than anything else. ABS on is always gonna advantage you, though.

Don't use any assists! It takes about a week or two to get accustomed to driving with no assists (depending of how often you play), but the brain and your reflexes need time to acclimate, and learn it will.  Trust you me, the experience will also transfer over to wheel when you get one. Is it frustrating at first? Sure it is, but keep at it, sleep  on it, and eventually, viola, you're there !

The assists on the game are far from realistic - in real life, the assists do not increase the performance of the car, they merely take over from the driver to control the throttle and brakes to avoid locking up and wheelspin. Whereas in the game, the assists actually make it possible to brake later, get on the throttle earlier and therefore make you quicker. In real life, a driver without assists should be just as good or possibly a little better than one without assists, but in the game, the assists actually increase the grip levels, so assists make you quicker in the game.

But in my opinion, there is no fun in driving around with assists on - I bought the game for a relatively realistic drive, so running assists rather defeats the point for me - even if it is quicker.

Learning to play without assists is one of the most satisfying thing I have done in this game.

I still don't win any races but at least I lose whilst giving it a good go.

TC medium and ABS on is faster than those assists off. The rest is slower when you have it on.
Maybe the 'corners only' racing line for perfect braking.

It's actually the other way around. A driver will always be quicker with ABS and TC in a modern F1 car.   Without real life assits a driver is "manually" making all the corrections which cost time.  Just look at the evolution of the auto or semi auto transmission.  They are now quicker than a manual transmission.  The only assits that I think is exaggerated is ABS.

I understand what you are saying, but of course for the assists to be quicker, they would have to be set up to correct the car right to the edge of grip - I am sure that the F1 teams would put enough time and money to make this possible. My point was that in normal cars or GT cars, the assists would be slower, as they have a safety margin and correct it a little earlier than necessary, thereby costing time.

Obviously, this hasn't really been present in F1 for several years, so it is difficult to say. But you are right, the computer would be much quicker and more accurate than a driver. I think they got rid of it in F1, as assists took away from driver skill - that is why I do not enjoy racing with assists - even though it is quicker, it doesn't feel like I have used my skill to get the lap time.

Also, to me the biggest advantage of assists is the start - you probably could lose 5 places on the start without assists.
