Repetitive Racenet Global Challenges Issue.

Recommended Posts

Loore, please answer one simple question – who the hell comes up with global challenges? Because even random number generator can’t screw up this bad, the same story was in Grid 2!
How hard is it to make an algorithm that doesn’t allow for tracks/cars to be repeated until fully rotated??!

How many locations are there? TWENTY ONE (21), half of those were EXTREMELY repetitive in Racenet Global Challenges!
I don’t have info for at least first 2 weeks of GC, but after that let’s see what we had:

Brands Hatch: 4 times, 3 of which was the same track.
Okutama: 3 times, ALL 3 of which was the same track.
Paris: 3 times, 2 of which was the same track.
Circuit of the Americas: 3 times, 2 of which was the same track.
Mont Tremblant: 3 times, 2 of which was the same track and THE SAME CAR.
Spa: 3 times, 2 of which was the same track.
Algarve: 3 times, 2 of which was the same track.
Sepang: 2 times, ALL 2 of which was the same track and THE SAME CAR.
San Francisco: 2 times.
Yas Marina: 2 times.
Washington: 2 times.
Hockenheimring: 2 times.

Same goes for the cars/categories - they are extremely repetitive!

WHAT. THE. HELL?  :s

This week we drive the same cars in two of the challenges and the tuner challenge is the exact same challenge as last week. and still challenges being ruined by the crappy ai.

We are currently investigating. You're right in that it should be a lot more varied, we'll be looking at putting that right.

That must be your go to answer these days Loore. Seems to apply alot lately.

Would you prefer me say nothing at all?

People ask for more clarity, more info, when that info is given, it's never good enough.

A lot of the time we do have to look into things, investigate them. Just because someone mentions a bug doesn't mean we know the cause straight away. Often reproducing the issue is the hardest job.

With this subject I had an email not 15mins before I read the thread, the answer I gave reflects exactly what is happening at the moment, I.e. it's being investigated.

Its better to know we are looking into it than not knowing nothing at all, right?

Just disregard the ungratefuls, You give a lot more inside information than any other developer does.

You still have one of the ... 'hardest' jobs so respect for that! I for one wouldn't be able to do it.

Please don't see my frustration as a lack of appreciation. I just wish these issues were found in house and fixed prior to release. I'm not nit picking on minor issues, this title has fatal errors that should have been found long before we ever bought it. I am very aware of testing and it amazes me these issues got past CM QA department.

We've been looking into this and are looking at setting them manually for the future (it is random currently).

As a heads up, next week's events should be:

  • Touring | Red Bull Ring | Time Attack
  • Endurance | Sepang | Time Attack
  • Open Wheel | Mont Tremblant | Time Attack
  • Tuner | Autosport Raceway | Drift
  • Street | Washington | Race
  • Party | Circuit of Americas | Eliminator

Moving forward I'd like to get your opinions on what tracks and routes we use, and we'll look at starting that next week :)

I'll duplicate my answer here too  :)

Loore, it doesn't matter what tracks/categories you give us, just don't let them repeat until all of them are fully rotated.
We appreciate you switched to manual mode, hopefully you'll find a way to make a proper randomization algorithm.

I like, the question is not about what track or not, i think that ones fits better than others, and a quiestion of taste, but the real advance is to choose it manually because randomly has no sense at all; it could be fine a weekly poll or something like that but if the variation is done manually for sure that we have more fun.

I know every stone, fence, tree, number of lines, asphalt wear out and many more from the Bix-Pass Drift in Califirnia Drift Challenge from Grid 2 :p, really it was repeated so much that i use to be always in the fisrt 10 positions, i am an specialist in it!! XD.

So while is been choosed manually i think that it will be enough to avoid repeating; in grid 2 Yas Marina could appear ten times and then never appear in 6 months.

Salute.

Kudos to Loore for the update.

I have a theory of why the RaceNet challenges have repeated in terms of same car.

When you consider the $0 glitch coupled with the negative costs of running some of the cars -- it would make perfect sense to have challenges of the same vehicle.

If you didn't -- it would ante up the possibility of people having to spend their moolah on cars which might glitch.  In turn, this would run people bankrolls down.  There's potential here for people to go broke.

When people go broke -- they tend to find something else to do.

Just a theory -- but it would make sense if you were trying to manage a situation.

Looking forward to the update.

:-)

As Zodh mentioned it the same randomness problem was present already in Grid 2 and we made Loore aware of it back in the time. Nothing changed then, hopefully will in Autosport. This denies your theory of it having anything to do with $0 glitch or horrendous repair costs.

And the fact all of them are obtainable to Platinum with a loan car

Seems like Mont Tremblant for Open Wheel would be a mistake as that would be the 3rd time in 4 weeks that track has been used.

If I have to do Mont Tremblant in that bloody Caterham again....

Good to see Sepang for Endurance.

I'm excited for touring at Red Bull (hoping it's Cat C) and COTA. I'd love to see a Time Attack with V8 Supercars/SuperTours at Bathurst. Yes that's been done before but it was early on and Bathurst was reverse, so it was almost completely different. I feel I'm pretty quick there, did a 2:01.2 once with a SuperTour and average about 2:01.7 or so. Even if it's the Utes at Bathurst, I'll be super happy.

What about the concerns regarding the AI in racenet challenges? I havent seen any feedback on this matter. Just let us know if something is going on or not. We already gave feedback that changing to more time attack solves nothing. Giving human player pos 1 however will solve most of the issues and you will no longer need to give us mostly time attack.

@Loore‌

Pleased to see Red Bull make an appearance :)

However, as Skakkelakk says above, I think the AI in these challenges are still a problem, even in time attack.  I think I read somewhere that it wouldn't be likely that they'd be removed.  Is it not possible to ghost them?  As it stands, the only way to get a clear run is to wait up for a lap which gets a bit dull.

Open Wheel Time Attack is ok, didn't come across any AI and I've set the current 2nd fastest global time there. Party Mode Eliminator is a problem, I got Platinum but only by about 100ft and that was clearing the AI before the back straight. Oh and I didn't get the Platinum rewards in Open Wheel and Party Mode but did in Street

I get the platinum bonus only once, the 1st time I get it... I guess that is what its supposed to? There is one thing: each time I finish a race for the racenet challenge I let it go to the end and then to the menu and then select again and re-do... I dont do restart after completing a race until the very end...
I say this because if we do restarts after finishing the race (and I have done in the past), I see that my time, if improved, counts towards the racenet challenge, although I restarted, and I dont see bonus or money for it, because I restarted... Could it be that also the prizes are registered although we dont see it, in case of constant restarts? Could this be why most people "dont get" (dont realise), they got the bonus? Just an idea...
