Dirt Rally A far Cry from Dirt 2 - Thumbs Down

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to comment on the absolute lack of almost anything realistic in Dirt Rally - I've been playing Dirt 2 for since their release and Rally is an absolute joke.  There is a total absence of rally tracks - I mean how many times can you go around a track no bigger than my 2 acre lot. You can forget the straight tracks its absolute boredom and the car response is nothing like Dirt 2, the cars in Rally feel like Tonka Toys with massive delay on the steering, Even the guys who are reviwing the game on line look like idiots trying to keep the car anywhere on the track!  I'm in the top ten on Dirt 2 and I feel like a beginner in rally because of the poor user interface.

This is a major disappointment for me from Codemasters - glad i still have mu PS3 and Dirt 2 Rally is a absolute joke and rip-off to the gaming group!

You clearly enjoy Arcade racing games, just stick to those instead of learning actual physics based on real life lol

No dis-respect but one thing for sure, there is nothing 'Real Life" in Dirt Rally. If you don't believe it watch the so-called You-tube review videos, the guys look like rank beginners over-controlling the cars all the while giving it a 10 rating on handling.  How can you design a program on real car handling when you're driving a Tonka Toy?

Looks like Codmasters was going to destroy the "Dirt" data and dragged some loser programmers from other defunk companies and came up with this nightmare Rally program designed around 8-10 year old kids mentality.

This program is "Light-years" from the reality of Dirt 2 and a rip off to the real gaming guys!

You have a strange view on 'realism'. Dirt 2 was a great game, but it wasn't a simulator. Take it from someone who's spent a lot of time in rally cars that dirt rally is a very good representation of rallying!

You tubers who review games do tend to be rubbish at them, Below is 67 pages of people who are pretty decent at the game.

The reviews, even the ones who look clumsy, absolutely love DiRT Rally.  Describing stages a '2 acre' would suggest you are just a bored troll looking for a reaction.  I'd love to oblige but it's New Year's Day and I have Guinness to drink :)

Myeah definitely a troll, fellas. That or he's not quite right in the head - perhaps both? We should take pity on such individuals, and provide him with guidance... and stuff.

As said above, everyone is entitled to their own opinion... even if they are bizarre!

Yes, this makes so much sense.

I get the frustration being new to dirt rally, but calling it a joke of a game is poor taste. To be fair, it's the most realistic game handling wise I've ever played. Going from dirt 2 where all you do is slide around, in rally you actually need to know how to tune a car and understand weight transfer. Trust me, mess around with the settings, turn OFF all the driving aids, and give it another shot.

Dirt rally weeds out the weak for sure. It's a true sim.

While it helps, you don't need to know how to tune a car. Default setups are good enough if you just want to jump in and drive

I am by no means a great driver on Dirt Rally, but the challenge is what keeps me coming back for more.  Absolutely loved dirt 2 and playing online with friends, but would I want to go back after playing Dirt Rally? Big nope!!!! After you've figured out that you have to be more methodical about your driving unlike in an arcade racer and things start to click, this game becomes the most satisfying thing to play. Heres a vid of my mediocre driving...having a blast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPkKlw2wUBU&t=82s
